Whaddya say we get to know each other a little?
Time

30 year old happily married man here. Had my first baby last year, greatest thing in life so far. I work full time as a police officer in the DFW Metro area of Texas. I have been a police officer for 9 years and was a jailer for 3 years before that. I love guitar, old country music, bluegrass, and politics. I am your typical Texan; headstrong, independant, freedom loving, a supporter of gun rights, and the death penalty. My hobbies include collecting guitars, rhinestoned suits (Nudie & Manuel), collecting exotic skinned cowboy boots, Cadillacs, computers, collecting music, and reading law related stuff. I'd like to go back to college and be a lawyer someday, but that idea is getting harder to achieve. I have about 15 hours of college, but I was so wound up to be a cop in my younger years that I completely laid my education to the side to go the Academy and get a badge. I come from a family of cops; Dad, Mom, two brothers, and a cousin all on the job, so it seemed only natural to do it, still comes easy. I am very proud of my Texas heritage which goes all the way back to 1764, my family came here from Mexico and stayed. My ancestors hepled settle Texas, fought for its independance (and one for Mexico, he was the black sheep), fought in the Civil War (SOUTH!), had a couple of Texas Rangers in the lineage.

Simon Pegg as Scotty maybe worst then Jar Jar.

This movie is looking even more horrible.

This maybe the kid's trailer, but it is still bad and will be in the movie.

That's not Simon Pegg, it is obviously Chris Pine as James Kirk.

I just disabled UAC in Vista. UAC was annoying me. I'd open something completely harmless and it'd take seconds of my life to make sure the Control Panel was safe to run. I'm running Spybot and ZoneAlarm Firewall so I'm not worried.

It's not bad OS actually.

The control panel doesn't launch a UAC dialog.  This is why I usually wonder what people are doing when they say "I get UAC prompts all the time."  If you're installing software all the time, then no kidding.  But if you're not doing anything else, then you shouldn't be getting it very often.  I only get them when I attempt to diagnose a problem with a network adapter or add an exception to the Windows Firewall.

Windows 7 as with Vista was made for anybody over 65 or who had purchased their first computer from Best Buy, Circuit City etc...and maybe took an adult ed class to "learn the computer"...

So the vast majority of PC users.  You could also put that label on most people that buy a Mac since they don't usually build those either.  As someone that did build his own, I can tell you that while Vista isn't a huge improvement over XP (though 64-bit Vista did push manufacturers to start writing 64-bit drivers), Windows 7 has a lot of features that are well worth the upgrade.  And that was just from using it for only an hour.

I'm totaly digging Windows 7, it runs nice and quick on my Dell E6400, much better than Vista on the same machine. I've noticed that my computers HDD runs way less when using W7 as opposed to Vista. I will buy Windows 7 on launch day, maybe even two copies. I just wished that Microsoft would take a lesson from Apple and have family licenses for the OS so that I can run W7 on my new laptop, my desktop, and my old laptop with one economical purchase. Also, I wished they just have ONE or maybe two versions of the OS instead of all these options. I can see the need for a seprate business version, but there should only be one Home option with everything in it you need. I think those two things would really improve some peoples perception of Microsoft.

7 is nice, but what I don't enjoy about it is that it's still Vista under the hood. It has all the usual 'Vista-isms'.

* Insane 'choose-your-own-adventure' Control Panel

* UAC

* Compatibility (Retro games particularly)

* Sucky OpenGL

* Painful networking (Sharing / Printers)

Remember, this is still beta we are tinkering with. Word on the skreet is that the Release Candidate will have over 70 UI improvements, whatever they may be.

The only time I ever remember nudity being "allowed" was when one or two people decided to fuck with a hypersensitive member (I think it was Ingo Sucks, or Ziegfried, or whatever name he was using at the time). And even then, the threads were slapped with a NSFW label.

Yeah, I knew I'd seen it somewhere, I got the NSFW on the Bettie Page thread when I did it. But I was wrong, no doubt.

Bettie Page did all of her pin-up work in the 1950s. She eventually stopped modeling, became a born-again Christian (was even a Baptist missionary in Angola for a while), and very much regretting having done her modelling career.

So yes ferris, it was in poor fucking taste.

Obviuosly a non-fan of Bettie. Although she was religious, she really cherished that point in her life in which she did the photgraphs. Allow me to show you some of her quotes:

"Being in the nude isn`t a disgrace unless you`re being promiscuous about it. After all, when God created Adam and Eve, they were stark naked. And in the Garden of Eden, God was probably naked as a jaybird too!"

"No, I don`t think my fans want to see me old and fat. I`ve got to get another 20-25 lbs. off somehow - remember me as I looked when I was younger. I get sad when I see my favorite movie stars when they`re old. Who wants to see Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau now as the The Odd Couple (1968)? Jack Lemmon is a fan of mine."

"I love to swim in the nude and roam around the house in the nude. You`re just as free as a bird!"

"I was never one who was squeamish about nudity. I don`t believe in being promiscuous about it, but several times I thought of going to a nudist colony."

"It makes me feel wonderful that people still care for me... that I have so many fans among young people, who write to me and tell me I have been an inspiration."

"I was not trying to be shocking, or to be a pioneer. I wasn`t trying to change society, or to be ahead of my time. I didn`t think of myself as liberated, and I don`t believe that I did anything important. I was just myself. I didn`t know any other way to be, or any other way to live."

She often felt her greatest gift to the world was her photographs, what better way to celebrate the woman to show her how she wanted to be remembered. I do not think, nor will I ever think, that displaying pictures of her that she was proud of to be "in poor fucking taste". You must be in the same camp that thinks Michelangelo's David is in "poor fucking taste".

Also, I like Taolar, a lot. I rarely agree with him, but at least he's willing to argue a point and he's even conceded a couple issues and agreed to disagree on others when it was clear the debate would achieve no further help or entertainment. I will agree that some of my fellow conservatives love to argue a lot and can go ON AND ON with it, but I do not think we are some "gang" whose goal is to run off all of the liberal members. I think some of my fellow members could learn a couple things from Taolar as to when it would be best to just drop a subject to avoid further needless debate, but if they want to keep going, they can have at it. I too often can't sit and read the huge posts they make, but if they felt better after doing it, so be it. I hate to see folks give up or leave the off-topic sections. I happen to think I am right and others are wrong, it is natural human desire to prove that I am right, even if I may be wrong. That is human nature which provides me with great insight, fun, challenges, and entertainment.

Well, I do appreciate that. But I have to agree with C3PX, it seems to me that within the last few months you have appeared to display an aggression toward us conservatives. Even in threads where no politics are even being discussed. One example would be my tribute thread to Bettie Page. I had always thought you didn't care about a little minor nudity, as long as it wasn't excessive or hardcore. But you put the quash on me and I respected that. But it just lingered in my mind that if I had not just prior had a debate with you regarding my opinion of Obama, would you have done that? Would it have turned out different if any one of our many liberal friends had posted it? All in all, I'd like to think that we can easily disagree on politics, but then all walk away friends because of our shared commitment of someday seeing a restored, unedited, original trilogy.

Nudity has always been forbidden--not because I'm a prude, and certainly not because of political differences. The result would've been the same for any member.

How many of those "liberal" members you mention are still present? At some point, the hardline conservatism and relentless point-counterpoint of the discussions here become too tiresome for anyone to bother with anymore. Hell, I can't even stand to read some of the novels that get posted by people who seem to be intent solely on proving their point. Taolar has shown remarkable stamina, but eventually he, like everyone else, will grow bored with the discussion and stop coming back.

I'm sorry that those differences spilled into this topic as well, but the split in thinking is as clear in this discussion as in any other. I just find it odd that Off Topic used to be the most active part of the forum (as it tends to be in any busy forum, I've found) and now it's a virtual ghost town.

Informative, productive debate lends itself to further participation. What does it say when most members have chosen not to participate?

I reckon that's why most forums choose not to allow political discussion. I kind of hate that, I pride myself on being able to vehemently argue my position and then completely forget the issue altogether in the next thread, I even do that in person. I am a highly political person and I love studying politics, reading news stories, studying history, and keeping up on current events. So, I love the political discussion, but I guess if is putting that much of a wedge in the forum, then maybe we should re-evaluate the "Politics" thread and consider banning all political discussion. I apologize if I assumed that a little boobage was fine, I did a search and confirmed that no nudity was always the rule to protect the kiddies and you, Jay, from getting into crap. But I just cannot help but think I've seen some titties on here before. Anyhow, I do certainly feel that you have some sort of prejudice against us conservatives, I respect your point of view just as I hope you respect mine. I had hoped we could argue our points and still be friends in the end. I dunno, maybe C3PX and I are the only ones who sense the hostility you have displayed against us, maybe we're just being over sensitive or just plain silly. Either way, I dunno, that's just been my perception. Again, should we re-evaluate our political discussions policy?

Seriously, if that is your game Jay, then ban me, do you really need a reason?

That's usually the way it works.

Just because I rarely agree with the Four Amigos doesn't mean I go ban crazy. If that's the way you think I operate, then you haven't been paying attention for the last five years.

I also wasn't aware that our "feud" was affecting the online health of those who post in this forum. As I've done in the past, I suggest anyone who doesn't like the atmosphere here go elsewhere. I certainly wouldn't want anyone's mental health to be at risk because their feelings were hurt by someone on teh innernets.

As a matter of fact, the only complaints I've received recently are about a certain group of very insistent members who seem to think Off Topic is a place for them to express their very strong and obviously correct opinions and react with outrage and mile-long posts when others do the same.

And yet those accounts are still active. Know why? Because the people I tend to agree with are free to take a hike too if they don't like things around here.

Well, I do appreciate that. But I have to agree with C3PX, it seems to me that within the last few months you have appeared to display an aggression toward us conservatives. It's cool that you're thinking about joining, Sean. That said, all the medications you're on might be an obstacle.

But yeah, it would be best to either talk to an honest recruiter--or better yet, to someone who has actually served in the airforce.

There's got to be an Air Force forum somewhere on the interwebs.

I can tell by your questions that you've probably talked to a military recruiter. Don't believe a word they say. They will promise you anything and everything but are not legally bound to adhire to any of it. Ever hear of the saying, "Blowing smoke up your ass"?

What's your IQ? If its below 80 sign up. If its above 80 do yourself a favor and don't act retarded by signing up into the military. Work your way through college and earn your future for yourself....however if you really want to flush your life down the toilet, be my guest....

Wait just noticed your entry, "And my one of my life goals of going to Las Vegas and doing ever drug known to man might change that."

Yeah your definitely retarded, the Air Force could really use you. Congratulations.

vbangle, I am offended that you actually believe that only "retarded" people serve in the military. Thanks to all those "retarded" people you get to live in freedom. That is a jerkoff thing to say and I insist that you apologize to all of the fine young men and women who have served, and serve our great nation.

Sean, just do it. You'll realize just how big the world is all on the dime of the United States. They'll pay your college, train you to shoot, instill you with respect and honor, and you'll be a better man in the end.

I'm entitled to opinion dickhead. It's one of those things we call "a right" as in the Bill of Rights? Freedom of Speech, maybe you've heard of it. I don't give a flying fuck if you were offended by my comments or not. In fact the only person(s) that have any say on whether my comments on this board are appropriate or not are Jay and Moth3r.

Oh, well, yes you are entitled. You are entitled because thousands of "retards" died to make your "entitlement" exist. The Bill of Rights, the only reason that documents still exists is because of those "retards" who have fought in our military to preserve it. It is idiots like you that love to throw out the "right to free speech" line, but you have little or no respect for the people who died to give you that right.

Alright, mine's a western. Two middle aged former Texas rangers have a ranch on the border. They decide that they can run a bunch of cattle up north and settle a place up there. Just before they leave, another former Texas Ranger stops by and offers to come along, but little do they know he is wanted out of Arkansas for killing a man who happened to be the brother of the Sheriff in that community. So the old Rangers start out on their journey and many tales can ensue regarding the group. Eventually, one of the old Texas Rangers die from an Indian raid, the other Ranger preserves his body and establishes the ranch. When the ranch in finally settled, he takes the body of the other Ranger back to Texas to be buried by a creek. The kicker is that this could be an EPIC like a trilogy or maybe even four parts. Lots of stories to tell in this one saga. Sounds great don't it.

Well, I got it downloaded, installed a separate partition from my Vista install on my Dell E6400 laptop. Got the product key Microsoft sent me entered and all is good so far. I've been using it since about 9 a.m. this morning and I will say that this OS is as smooth and quick as any I've seen. Even though I've got Aero on, it is running as quick as if I've got XP on here with no theme at all. The install was absolutely effortless and it even had prompts to setup my wifi connection. After starting the first time, the OS instantly downloaded all necessary updates and, surprisingly, all the necessary drivers for my machine, even the graphic card!

It took a little gettig used to a exploring things to see most of the changes, but I love them all so far.
