Stumbled over this video-
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WUq3FnAPSA

As much as the movie looks outdated in comparsion to the newer films… this video would stick out like a sore thumb in comparsion to the rest of the film. It’s great as a standalone project made for fun, but not if you put it into the film itself. Of course, you’d have to change every frame to look like a 2010s film if you want this video in. That’s why people don’t include the Obi-Wan vs. Vader remake in their edits.

I was just sharing. I didn’t expect it to be put in Revisited. I like the original approach to the Death Star better than that anyway. But I still appreciate and enjoy seeing effort.

I’ve been experimenting with trimming “I must obey my master!” while also incorporating Sir Ridley’s “Your mother once thought as you do” (albeit slowed-down). What prevented me from deleting “You don’t know the power of the Dark Side” was both Vader’s turn and making sure that Luke’s follow-up line made sense. The edit is a bit rough, but I’m sure Ady can do better working in the 5.1 mix.

Here it is.

The “I must obey my master!” line you deleted is very important. It tells the audience Vader’s relation to the Emperor, as it tells a lot about the Sith master-apprentice relationship.
Deleting it is a huge mistake.

Strong disagree on this one.

Indeed. Why would Vader be planning to overthrow the Emperor in the previous movie?

Vader lacks the courage to attempt to overthrow the Emperor on his own. He’s stuck being his lackey since Luke refused to join him.

Would it be possible for this scene to be reshot to include a gloved hand?

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qQB2NXfJev0&t=39s

The DS crew in this scene are all wearing black gloves but then in the next shot a gloveless hand is shown pushing a button.

Adywan, you could use your own hand for that shot.

Why not just erase the whole hand? It does not add anything vital to the scene.

Pressing that button pumps atmosphere into the landing bay where Vader’s Shuttle is landing-Duh!
You can’t not sow that. What the hell is wrong with you?!

Perhaps this idea could be part of my ROTJ project, as one of two audio tracks. I like the last clip, though too wonder if there’s any way to improve it further.

Making the breathing a little louder might help camouflage the transition of the new line to the old.

I’m trying to handle some of it, but I keep running into it sounding unnatural when I try to separate the different parts of Sir Ridley’s clip. Here’s one that incorporates the reverb and some additional fading/other items.

I’m not a big audio editor, so I suspect that it still sounds rough. It’s doable and a more talented editor can find better clips/equalization/reverb effects to make it work. I would suggest finding a clip where James Earl Jones says a drawn-out “mother” (probably from his Bible audiobook). One of the more audio-minded people here could really make this idea a reality for Adywan’s edit.

The flow of the sentence sounds about perfect now. His voice is a little gravely when he says “your Mother”. Great work!

I looked around a while back when I first suggested this. I watched Lion King & Coming to America just to see if I could find him saying “your mother”, but no luck. I do recall finding a clip of him saying “Mother F***er”, but I don’t recall now where that was.

New skies look fantastic!
I know the prequels have their faults, but they also have their place. I don’t mind a subtle nod to them here and there. It’s a quick shot of the head and then it’s gone. Now if Adywan can just see fit to keep the Episode 2 Death Star plans from Star Wars: Revisited. Perhaps have the plans somehow morph from the Rogue One shot to the SW:R version.

I’ve given it a tweak, using the normal speed “once thought as you do” and adding a pause between the two parts. I don’t think I like it as much. While adding a “but” between the two lines would work, I couldn’t find a clean enough clip of Jones saying it as Vader.

Here’s the new one. Again, I’m sure Adywan or another sound editor could make it sound cleaner and better edit the music around eliminating “I must obey my master!”

Your right, the first clip is better.
But thanks for putting in the time to try to improve on it.

Like I said-just a wish list.

Oh fair enough I don’t really watch the prequels enough these days, but yeah I guess that makes sense.

Even discounting the prequels (a good idea, IMHO), it would be a good change because it gives a bit more characterization/importance to the otherwise non-existent Mrs. Anakin Skywalker (using the name “Padme,” if just watching the OT, has little meaning). It also implies that Vader still thinks about her, which gives Luke some hint of a bit of goodness within him. While the name “Anakin Skywalker” might not mean anything to him, his wife does still hold some significance in his self-identity.

I’m also wondering how we all feel about deleting the line “It is too late for me, son.” It seems way too telegraphed and kind of gives away Vader’s turn (as does “It is pointless to resist”). Just having Vader stand at the window is enough to get the point across. Adywan hinted at incorporating some dialogue tweaks and I think these would be solid tweaks, along with deleting the whole “jealous Han” subplot that gets all of two scenes and gets cut out of most ROTJ edits (e.g., Darth Rush, who handled it pretty well).

“It is too late for me son”- I’ve always liked the way that line is delivered. It’s the first time we see any kind of crack in Vader’s veneer.

Ridley did a few good attempts on the Collaborative thread last year.

Sir Ridley said:

Your mother once thought this should do:
https://mega.nz/#!bR0CUAgZ!8tXiiKI9PUpvmjG1VO3qkCUnFyiF5YaVewQ-oSBXAdw

That’s pretty good. I think it would be even better if there was a half second gap between Mother & Once. I stumbled across this today when I was searching to see if anyone had done it. The music was a problem–

Alright, I don’t agree everything you said, but this one is something I wholeheartedly agree.

As far as I can recall, other than the damned prequels, there isn’t a single mention of Luke and Leia’s mother in OT. Which is kind of weird in a way and it would be really nice have a little mention like this.

I wouldn’t want Vader to say “Padme”, but a line like “Your Mother once thought as you do.” would fit perfectly.

I agree completely. Even if it’s not for ady, it’s a change I’d love to see someone figure out some day.

James Earl Jones has done an audio of the entire bible, I’m sure the phrase “Your Mother” is in there somewhere.

I mean considering he is there for a few seconds and its pitch black before Vader finds him I think the pillar would be plenty of cover

Other than that i would agree with everything and as far female trooper, rebels and battlefront have already had “confirmed” there are women in the infantry so i don’t see why not. And in response to those that disagree, you could always rationalize that yes they are fascist and that’s why they don’t let them join the navy (with a few exceptions).

Watch that scene again, there is absolutely no place to hide under the dais.

I don’t think ady will add anything not from the original trilogy (even though the striker was in Rogue one before you say)

Plus, what’s the point? The size & density of the trees makes any amount of air support for either side fairly useless.

I just thought it would be cool to see a couple buzzing overhead.

I’ll get us back on track-

Here is my personal wish list for Return of the Jedi: Revisited.

*The shield generator is on the Endor Moon, so on wide space shots add the planet Endor behind the moon. Maybe a damaged planet that’s cracked in half or has a chunk missing out of it?

*See alternate angles of the Death Star II.

*If you are adding female rebel pilots, consider re-voicing a biker scout with a woman’s voice.

*A shot with Tie-Strikers patrolling Endor.

*Fix the “looking back” head of the At-At.

*Alter Vader’s line to say “Your Mother once thought as you do.”

*Shots of rebel gunners in the Millennium Falcon.

*See the Falcon take out more than two Tie fighters.

*Make the area under the Emperor’s Throne less open and give Luke an actual place to hide.

*Darth Vader’s Chest Plate subtly sparking and smoking after he hurls the Emperor down the shaft.

*Jake Lloyd Anakin Force Ghost

You’re welcome.
