A would think a compromise version is the only viable way forward now. This is what I think should go.

No, but I think it should have something to do with Jedi always cremating their fallen comrades to prevent some darkside force using their bodies which would be still force sensitive even after death. So in the Jedi's final days they could use this force technique of disappearing or disolving as a safe guard. Just because it hasn't been mentioned in the prequels doesn't mean that the Jedi aren't aware of it.

Better capture there. I noticed their seems to be a lot of jaggies on horizontal lines on your captures, are you deinterlacing? Check out shot 5 on your list the doorway on the right of Leia the top most horizontal groove on the post has almost disappeared. Knock the blue hue down a bit.

Why don't you use the 1997 SE ld's as this had none of the lowry cleanup work on it and is closer to the original films.

Not bad, although your capturing a nats too bright. Look at vaders cloak in the first shot visible artefacting in the darker parts. Also your filters seem to be softening the image to my eyes. overall a nice, detailed (if a little soft) capture. Better than any of the efforts I've seen on the screenshot thread. (perhaps with the exception of the ISOmix).

eros, as long as film will be converted to television, anamorphic ain't going anywhere... (and I've not deinterlaced the films, either.)

BTW, MPEGs are being uploaded right now.

NO I think YOU don't get it! When we have pixel based displays line numbers and aspect ratios don't matter anymore you can stretch and squeeze the picture but the resolution will remain the same. Anamorphic is designed to make video on 16:9 CRT's more watchable, end of story.

Of the ORIGINAL version caps that are still up there I think the ISOmix has the edge. OK tr47 may have a sharper picture but it's too bright as are all the rest! Look at the reflections on the wall in all the versions of that first shot, most of the detail has been lost because of overblown whites. The closest in detail terms to the retail version is ISOmix. I have the Old Look version 2 asian set and I checked that frame with Vdub and although softer overall it has more detail in this shot than any of these caps (except the retail).

I agree with what MeBeJedi has decided, after all anamorphic is going to be more or less obsolete when we are all using progressive diplays in 5 to 10 years. As long as he makes them progressive I don't mind what aspect ratio he uses.

On a different note
I've just watched ROTJ 2004 edition and their where very little changes mainly clean-ups. The light-sabers do look a bit unconvincing at times in the Emporers throne room. And yes Hayden is Anakin Skywalker at the end, and yes Naboo is in the celebration scene. Stormtroopers voices were still original though!

I just can't understand why GL has decided to blow the lid on what the Emporer and Jabba look like so early on in the story line. That would have been half of the mystery for future generations to finally see in episode 6. It doesn't bode so well as to how he's going to reveal who Sidious really is in Episode 3. No disrespect to anyone but I reckon GL must think that the Star Wars movie going population is as stupid as the corporate hollywood fuck-heads he comes into contact with on a regular basis.
(Shades of Harry Potter's Philosopher having to be renamed to sorcerer spring to mind)

Ah well, I suppose we all have the power to edit our own versions nowadays and to hell with GL's stupid decisions.
