BULLSHIT! I have the factory pressed Look V2 and although their is a quick pause here and there where the LD side changes are their is NO MISSING FOOTAGE on my set.

DVD Burning Software

What software does everyone use for burning DVDs? Specifically, I have downloaded the OT Anamorphic DVDr version from Bittorrent, so I would like a program that you can just select the VIDEO_TS.ifo file and burn the DVD. I was using the trial version of a program called Copy2DVD that worked exactly like that, super-easy, but my trial time has expired, and I don't really want to pony up $40 for a program I might not use again (all I have left to burn is the Supplemental disk). I have Easy CD/DVD creator, but couldn't find a way to burn a video DVD from a .ifo file. Any suggestions?

I use CloneDVD or DVD Decrypter both will burn from IFO

You forgot to put the LOOK version 2 on your list. It hasn't got the best video but it has a good sound stage and is the most complete version of the OOT (Anamorphic, TR47 and Dual Layer all have the Leia welding scene missing). Forget the 5 Star that not the OOT.

Are you going to offer these to captures for sale?

This argument about Blu-Ray is a non-starter as well. Do you seriously think that Joe average is going to shell out for new technology like this in two or three years time when DVD is plenty good enough quality for the average video consumer? Ain't going to happen this side of 2010 no way. IF theirs a new boxset in 2007 it will contain slightly altered prequels with the exact same versions of the sept OT release.

I am in need of obtaining a bootleg set but I am un-sure as to which set to go with, I've read on this forum that the TK47 set seems to be the best to go for at the moment in quality and sound wise, but as I've also read he only ships in the US and I live in the UK so thats a set back for me.

Is there anyone here willing to do copies of their TK47 sets for me? or does anyone know where I can obtain them from?

Any help/information would be most appreciated, thanks.

I can do you a copy of the original trilogy, widescreen letterbox, 5.1 dolby surround and most of the definitive edition extras on a 4th disc if you want it. And it includes the Leia welding scene in ESB.

Episode I-VI: Archival Editions

Most of this list is nonsense and the little bits that aren't have already been rumored to be in the september release. I agree that, had the public waited until 2007 for complete Star Wars on DVD, we would have seen a few more changes. But I don't think that is ever going to happen now. I reckon George Lucas wants to get on with other things he has planned and wash his hands of Star Wars. That is why he is releasing them in sept, he's got to let those original films go, even if they don't quite gel with the prequels. Granted we will get a new boxset of all 6 movies in 2007 with possibly slightly altered ep's 1 & 2, but that will be it. And that can only be a good thing in my opinion as he has screwed around with these movies far too much already.

Lucas Even Screws Up Jabba's Character
Time
George Lucas is either fucking around with us or he has lost the plot completely. First off he keeps banging on about how he wants these movies to all gel for future generations, and then he goes and reveals what Jabba looks like in the very first episode! That was the beauty of the original movies that we didn't see this mysterious character until the final episode. Then he put the totally pointless scene with Jabba and Han in Ep4 SE. This totally ruins the build-up to the introduction of the character in the final episode. So much for thinking ahead for future audiences there! And to make matters worse if the rumors are to be believed he is about to expose the deformed emporers face in Ep5 on the new DVD release in september. Again this ruins the mystery behind who or what the emporer really is and what he looks like. Again he's really planning for future audiences there isn't he? I think he must have surrounded himself with a bunch of idiots who agree with every stupid idea and change he comes up with. Having said that these latest changes could be just misinformation put into the public domain to have a bit of a laugh at the publics expense. I'm sure he's deleting all images of the emporer and Jabba from all the movies so we and FUTURE GENERATIONS can revel in the surprise when we first see Ep6! (Yeah Right )

Yes, but seeing as you replied to a post a while back that you don't ship to UK I haven't got the choice!

What makes this particular set the nearest thing to an official release?

I meant that it is factory pressed rather than DVDr.

EndorForest Review
Time
I recently received the Endorforest bootleg of the definitive collection LD's. I thought I would let everyone know what my personal opinion is of the quality of these DVD's.

Firstly the physical look of the package is very good, original poster work on the cases and the disks themselves, with a nice insert giving brief film production notes and chapter stop titles.

Star Wars; The main movie starts off looking a little soft to my eyes but seems to improve over the course of the film, colours are beautifully rendered and make my old Asian silver set look washed out. Their are a few motion glitches especially when things are moving across screen on the horizontal plane, the objects seem to judder a little like dropped frames or something similar. This could be an encoding problem as I doubt it is on the original LD's. Also anything that is at, or close to the red end of the spectrum looks a little pixellated. Sound is simple dolby 2.0, I tried the 5.1 setting but it sounded exactly the same to me. It sounds very clear though and I can hear things in the sound stage that simply weren't there in the old asian silver set. Overall a good disk with plenty of bonus material. The bit rate tends to peak at about 6Mb and averages around 4.5 as it does on all the other disks in this set.

The Empire Strikes Back; This is probably the most consistantly good of the three disks, again beautifully rendered colours but a problem with reddish hues as on the star wars disk, it has a sharper picture than Star Wars. I noticed the layer change on this disk at about 115 mins right in the middle of a scene, pretty poor planning there. Dagobah looks particulary clear and colourful. The motion artefacts I mentioned above are on this disk as well but aren't too much of a problem. Sound again is Dolby 2.0 but has a nice and detailed sound stage.

Return of the Jedi; This is where this package really drops a major bollock. This disk renders a very competent package to below average in one felled swoop. It starts off well enough with a picture and sound that betters either of the other disks. About halfway through the movie, when the team are on Endor, the picture seems to break up into what can best be described as a venetian blind effect. It's like 2 out of three scan lines are missing and the edges of everything look like zoomed in bitmaps without antialiasing enabled, sort of like a saw blade effect. This is really obvious on my 40" rear projection tv, perhaps prog scan might resolve this. The picture remains like that for the rest of the movie.

It's a pity about this third disk because up until then this was the nearest thing we had to an official release of the OOT. So there you have it. I will probably end up selling this package as it isn't good enough to sit in my collection unless whoever manufactured it brings out a revised edition of Jedi to correct the glitches on that disk.

If you hardly watch Jedi then this collection is worth buying as it is pretty cheap. But if you want the whole package then look somewhere else. I'm going to email these comments to Endorforest as well as they said they would appreciate feedback.

Cheers.

Star Wars - The Edits and DVDr releases thread
Time
I think the SE edition of ESB is slightly different on video than the one I saw in the cinema in 1997. I am positive that their was an extra bit of Bobba Fett just before he escapes with the frozen han in the slave 1, he fires his blaster a few times from the ramp of his ship at leia etc and then storm troopers appeared form behind them and thats when Bobba Fett makes his escape. It made him look less coward like. And I'm positive I saw this on screen.

Here’s my proposal for the ‘Ultimate Star Wars Box set’ that is probably going to see the light of day in time for the 30th anniversary.

The Phantom Menace

Pretty much all of this is OK. Just a few minor changes.

1. Crap puppet of Yoda, CGI in AOTC was better change to CGI.
2. Forget the midichlorian nonsense.
3. I don’t want to see Jabba in ANY star wars episodes until the last episode (it spoils the surprise, same goes for the deformed emperor

Attack of the Clones

Ho dear some really crap scenes in this need deleting.

1. Elevator scene at the beginning (cringe).
2. Obi Wan being helped by a little kid to find Kamino (duh you thick bastard Kenobi!!)
3. Stupid scene of Anakin riding on walking beach ball or what ever it is on Naboo.
4. ‘Good call my young padawan’(cringe)
5. Death star plans in a little hologram. ‘Yeah right, we’ll just build one that looks just like this nice red ball thing. Should take about 20 years looking at this detailed drawing’
6. Padme’s get to that hangar order(how did she know?)
7. reinstate the original wedding footage.

The Creeping Death or Fear or whatever it’s called

1. Get some normal people to watch the movie and delete all the crap dialogue and scenes they recommend that are bound to have been in the original theatrical/dvd release. Plus no full on images of the deformed emporer save that until the last episode as with jabba.

A New Hope

1. Han must shoot first
2. No Jabba (see episode one above)
3. rest of the movie is OK

The Empire Strikes Back

1. Original Wampa scene restored
2. If you must change the emporer hologram have his hood covering most of his face like the prequels. I can live with the different voice.
3. rest OK

Return of the Jedi

1. Original salac pit please.
2. CGI the ewoks eyes or something to make them look more real.
3. original music score in jabba’s palace reinstated
4. Original end music on endor

That’s about it, feel free to add more changes to the list that you thought sucked in the VHS/DVD releases.
