Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers **
Time

Don’t forget what reshoots means these days. Since most scenes are done with green screen, they don’t have redo everything if they replace a character or a performance. They just need to block the actors the same way, and swap the previous green screened actors with the new ones, keeping all the VFX shot. Easy as pie.

Except that if you’ve seen BTS of the latest SW movies, this isn’t the case. But nonetheless they should be able to pull it off. Rogue One ended up having more soundstage work due to the reshoots.

Ranking the Star Wars films
Time

Most recent thoughts on my ranking:

1- SW (always been my favorite)
2- RO (most like my favorite for obvious reasons)
3- ESB (Yoda, Vader, and Han/Leia romance make this film)
4- TFA (Terrific performance from Harrison, loved Daisy, John, and Oscar)
5- TCW TV series (Many are gonna give me flack on this, but I still stand by it)
6- ROTJ (Hate the pacing still but the Vader/Luke scenes are gold for me)
7- Revels TV series (Like the OT focus and TCW connections, not a fan of the animation style)
8- TPM (Visually the most like the OT, so bad it’s good dialogue, Liam Neeson, DOTF music)
9/10- ROTS/AOTC (ROTS is WAY too much CG and too violent but some compelling scenes, AOTC is technically the worst movie and the ugliest one but has some more “so bad it’s good” dialogue than ROTS)

Rogue One * Spoilers * Thread
Time

I’ve liked more each time I’ve watched it. (Have seen it 6 times now, 3 of which were in the theatre) I at first complained about the huge lack of character development and the confusing first act, but then once you understand the plot there’s a lot of little things you can pick up. Particularly there are performances that have subtleties than I initially thought.

And I get a lot of people complain about the whole Jyn/Galen “stardust” heartstrings aspect, but that was actually one of my favorite parts, since I don’t think enough films go out to show the importance and power of familial connections. shrug

4K restoration on Star Wars
Time

AOTC and ROTS have a 2K DI anyway. The live action was 1080p with the CGI rendered at 2K.

For which the picture quality of those early Sony HD cameras are easily beat by most mirorless camera’s (Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, etc) today that all range from like $500 to $2000, vastly cheaper I’m sure then how much those cost.
Not to mention many of them shoot 4K. AOTC of which you can tell was the very early days of color grading for a blockbuster film for something sourced digitally because of how god-awful many scenes are in appearance.

Gosh, properly color corrected 4K scans of theatre prints of SW have drastically more rich colors and dynamic range. Puts those Lowry masters to shame. That master’s colors make the films look like old 90’s shows shot on video. They don’t look filmic at all compared to how they are supposed to appear. What many people think make the films feel super dated is the horridly bad colors on the transfer, surely on purpose by Lucas I assume.

I can definitely understand that line of thinking. Star Wars was in reality designed as a singular film without any real intention for sequels. And this really was because no one could have predicted it would become the second highest grossing film of all time. You aren’t going to set people up for sequels that wouldn’t come out.

Now I mean I like a ton of SW stuff across all the movies, shows, games, etc. as many know on here but Star Wars is still far and above my favorite film and piece of the whole franchise. I’ve seen it vastly more times than ESB and ROTJ. It’s only one I could fully quote scenes from. Rogue One easily became my second favorite because it played to that original, along with offering some innovative cinematography and some more refined acting performances.

That said, I’m thinking that if any film could be my new favorite, it would be TLJ, simply because of how much I love Rian Johnson’s previous works, and that I do take some liking to the super mystical aspects of Star Wars that have been missing from the films, something that’s sort of the opposite end from what SW and RO are like.

EDIT:
And also yes, glad you haven’t watched the sequels to Jaws or BTTF, they don’t at all compare.

I found the teaser trailer to be really fucking boring. It’s officially going at the bottom of my list for Most Anticipated 2017 Movies I Want to See.

Lol.

People who make judgements on movies based on trailers…lol.

Fuck you too, Frink. 😃

Watch it.

Maybe you should consider deleting Frink’s shitposts. Just saying.

I don’t get it. I honestly think Frink’s posts are one of the best things about this site.

Glad to see it was truly a teaser and not some more traditional trailer like had been rumored. It reveals little more than a peak at the visual style and hearing again Luke’s voice. And is that John William’s score for this trailer?

And that poster is fantastic, I need to find a way to get that full size and have it framed. It’s far better than any SW poster has been in MANY years.

I think it wise that I stay away from the future trailers however. If it really picks up right after The Force Awakens, there’s no need to have any idea whatsoever of the plot. I know what I need to know going in.

It is ridiculous how many people here are upset and surprised. This was completely expected.

This. Actually even if they were releasing the OOT I’m not sure they would choose the celebration panel to announce it in the first place.

For sure, it’s not the type of thing I would ever think they would announce at the starting panel. No surprise to me at all.

SWCO is the place to do it, but I’d rather be thinking it won’t happen and it does, than the other way around. I don’t know about anyone else, but I easily overhype myself and I’d rather minimize past experiences.

With MSW track record and them claiming the validity of an OOT release likely this year, I can see it’s likely, but I just have this bad feeling that it’ll be the crash and burn if I expect it.
