Aimersoft DRM Media Converter works I just tried the trial with the ship to ship video and it works

Didn't work for me - just gave me an itunes error.

From the language they use, it sounds like they are screen scraping the video rather than doing a 1-2-1 conversion.

The only tool that does remove the FairPlay DRM appears to be no longer developed.

Any word on the other bonus discs?

-- UPDATE --

OK, a bit more luck, so it appears that you cannot play extras in a separate window, which trips up the software.  I've managed to convert the video but now have an issue with the audio:

1. It's out of sync
2. It records your audio output so mine had a YouTube video mixed in with it...

Getting closer though.

-- UPDATE 2 --

Got everything working ok, now trying to work out which output format gives the best quality, because of the way the system works it needs to transcode in realtime it seems, so the quality isn't exactly the same as the original - I've dropped the makers of SoundTaxi an email to see why they don't support Lagarith or similiar AVI codecs - I guess because you're supposed to be making direct a device compatible file.

-- UPDATE 3 --

Having checked my UK Steelbook Mike, the PS3 says it's a Dolby TrueHD 7.1 track - I've only got a 5.1 reciever though.

I tried my spare bd player and it outputs 7.1 it is just the sp3

Aliens: Teal, teal & more Teal. :(

NOT ON BLU-RAY - Orange and Teal, or How “Re-Mastering” is Distorting Our View of Classic Films (link from OP) shows this stupefying Aliens Blu-to-DVD comparison:

Fortunately, it can be easily color corrected with a few histogram settings (in a paint program):
HISTOGRAM
RED       Gamma 1.6  Midtones +15
GREEN   Gamma 1.1  Midtones +20
BLUE      Gamma 1.1  Midtones -3

Speaking of Aliens (Extended Edition, though)... what about a spoRved version?

Your use of the Avisynth ColourLike() should do short work of Aliens -- except the problem areas of crushed blacks and blown-out whites, which this Blu-ray has.

BTW, I was impressed by your nice work on The Matrix correction and tried that filter (in your ColourLikeFBF function) ... but kept getting an error message "Evaluate: System exception - Access Violation ([ScriptClip], line 5)". What did you do to solve this?

What are the chances of a similarly easy correction for Great Escape?

It would still have the DNR

I still love the grain in the Aliens blu-ray and would prefer that over the hd-tv broadcast. We just need to see how many clipped white scenes there are. I still enjoyed watching it in motion though and it never really bothered me. Though it would be neat to see the colors changed for the blu-ray.

The grain is fake tho

T2 was only warm in places all night scenes were the same blue tint, we have 35mm cells they are correct the bku is just a crappy Ip master

Well, the blue tint in the night scenes were a different type of blue than the one in the DVD and Bluray. The 35mm blue was denim blue in shade than the dazzling indigo blue tint that the revisionist dvd/bd colour has.

So the 35mm cells are wrong?

No! The 35mm cells would be right, and I prefer that. The revisionist colour would be a modification!

As I said in my first post  apart from looking like crap the blu matches the 35mm cells bar bad contrast

The Jurassic Park movies also had the wrong colour cast throughout (blue push). The restoration done on the first movie in 2013 corrects the colour to the original yellow/orange warm toned image, but goes a bit overboard, particularly in some scenes.

Terminator 2:Judgement Day & Terminator 3: Rise of The Machines have a blue and ash-blue tint respectively. Original 35mm colours were warm toned (yellowish).

Superman Returns- Original colours were gold-toned and sparkly, creating a 80s feel. Bluray colours are flat and dull! Look at the Return to Krypton deleted scene and you'll notice how glorious the colour grading is.

The Mask- The Jim Carrey comedy was originally warm toned (orange-ish). The Bluray is not much of a violation, but not the original colour either. The colour saturation of the Bluray is a bit extreme in my opinion.

There will always be many more...

An odd addition to the list would be Do the Right Thing, which is in a way the polar opposite of Raiders of the Lost Ark.  It's actually supposed to have a strong golden-yellow cast, but when they made the Blu-ray, they removed it, so the Blu-ray has much more natural colors than it did theatrically.

Just a reminder that color revisionism can work in all directions, not just making things look more unnatural.

EDIT: I'd also add that with Raiders, there's not very much teal shift at all, the big color shift is almost all in the direction of gold.

BIG YES!

And yes no teal in Raiders it was done gold to match Skull

We have the 1080 hdtv version of aliens

I've seen the HDTV version and it can't hold a candle to the amount of detail in the bluray transfer which would be amazing if the colour hadn't been so badly messed up.

Would love to see a spoRv version, though I hope you reconsider the special edition; the extra scenes kill the perfect pacing of the film and the theatrical version is Cameron's original director's cut since he had final cut of the movie on release.

I disagree with some fake grain it comes bloody close

Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) - Theatrical Cut Restoration Project (* unfinished *)

I am not sure what point you are making exactly, there may be more than one.

Mine was abandoned long ago due to lack of interest from  those who requested it, and you are assuming using colour like from an LD qualifies as some sort of a restoration.

This assuming the LD is correct and letting a machine do the whole movie is the way to go, I personally think the colour space of LD makes that method moot personally.

I  am not by posting pics saying mine was better you asked how I would do it and I showed you what I think the colours should be, that has nothing to do with the resolution of yhe file.

I am after that post staying away from the project

I did it by hand no colour like just got rid of the pink and brought back the greens and the colour to the image.

I then knocked down the contrast and brightness to try and replicate the theatrical viewing experience that I and others (http://siskelandebert.org/video/8K1BRWM27OSB/Robin-Hood-Prince-of-Thieves-amp-Santa-Sangre-Holy-Blood) had

The BD is not far off for colour, but it was super dark theatrically think the new Last of the Mohicans BD so maybe the LD is closer.

I tried it here with mine:
