Resizing to 720p should effectively blur the aliasing. The glitches themselves aren't fixed by correcting field order transitions.

Damn. Do you happen to have any frame-numbers I can check?

My frame numbers are with Honor Pulldown Flags and then a manual IVTC attempt.

99465 (1:09:08). I also have a note saying "video glitches when Neo turns and tries to shoot agent that dodges" which I assume refers to 1:46:14, but I don't see anything wrong there at a casual glance now.

79962 is where one pattern break happens (at a scene change).

The one on Usenet is just a binary combine of the three Russian .MPG files.

There are multiple issues with that HDTV capture, some of which were discussed in the thread that spawned this one.

  • At least a couple glitches in the recording, and the pulldown pattern changes at least once.
  • There is horizontal aliasing. It looks like they took a 1440x1080 HDCAM master and resized it to 1920x1080 using point-resize. This can be fixed by downscaling and upscaling horizontally with a softer resizer. (I did that for the screenshot comparison)
  • Recording stops during end credits.
  • Being Super35, they cropped the sides off a bit to make the open matte transfer.
  • Compression.

Need advice on choosing new LD machine

Unfortunately, I don't know anything about that machine and I can't find the service manual online. :-/

Dunno if it helps, but there is a parts list. If it follows the convention of the rest of their players of referring to the video processor as IC3001, it's C1AB00002748 which Encompass Parts says is also in EA38V, EZ28, and EZ48V.

Info: Our projects released thread

There were one or two D-VHS players with HDMI outputs, yes, but that would be capturing the decompressed display and not the transport stream. You would have to recompress.

D-Theater releases don't have any protection beyond DTCP (5C); they are just marked Copy Never. I think the people who ripped the D-Theater tapes just used this device. It's hush-hush even in the underground though.

Hey anyone know if it's possible to crack DVHS recordings that are Copy Once protected? I have numerous never going to be released titles on DVHS I'd love to rescue to Blu Ray.

Possible, yes, with some big clunky hardware. Are you willing to send hundreds of dollars to a random guy overseas? I can try to dig up the info, I think he charges $300-400.

OK, if someone can tell me how to save images from that eBay auction, I'll post them up here.

I seem to be able to right-click and Save As all images on eBay in the current Firefox. A month or two back I had to resort to tricks like Inspect Element or searching the source for the JPG URLs... so try that.

How to capture HDCP-encrypted HDMI sources (Vudu, Netflix, Directv, Virgin Media, etc.)
Time

According to that page their timeframe for shipping the product is March/April 2014. By then AVerMedia's USB3 1080p60 uncompressed capture device should be out for much less than $259, and who knows what other options will be announced or available.

They don't mention what they're doing about HDCP, but I wonder what kind of legal trouble they could get into if they don't stay under the radar.

Robocop - Director's Cut 1080p restoration (Released)

There is no quote from Cameron that they regrained it, so you'll never accept any deduction based on what he did say.

I edited my post with the direct link grabbed from the source. Skip to 5:43. Quite apart from "minimizing", he literally says that they fully removed the grain, twice:

"completely denoised and degrained it"... "we got rid of all the grain"

There is also his insane "uprezzed" word choice that helps nothing.

Again, I'd like to see an actual quote from Cameron. A link. No one has ever provided me with one when I ask. If he said it, then please, let me see it so I can put Cameron in the fruitloop category.

Who have you been asking? The link was posted on AVS in 2010.

"I just did a complete remaster of Aliens. Personally. With the same colorist that I worked with on Avatar. And it's spectacular. We went in and we completely denoised and degrained it, uprezzed it, color-corrected it, end-to-end, every frame... it looks amazing. It looks better than it looked in theaters... originally. 'Cause it was shot on a high-speed negative that was a new negative that didn't pan out too well and got replaced the following year, so it was pretty grainy. We got rid of all the grain. It's sharper and clearer and more beautiful than it's ever looked. And we did that to the long version, to the 'director's cut' or the 'extended play', ya know. I call it the FM mix."

most all the links are dead because of linking to ebay, can you post links to an actual Store next time where items can be purchased or seen?

Such as? Any of the random Chinese import sites I've seen selling them mark them up by $30-50 compared to the best eBay prices.

I've determined the model numbers for all the cards I had listed now (not sure how I missed a couple of them in the descriptions before). So you can search on eBay ("include description") or elsewhere for those numbers.

well I see Vudu has the HDX version available for PC download now, so how can I get this video? please if anyone knows how or can provide it to us we can make this project happen, someone was going to provide me with an how to video but he never came through, he said he does it through his PS3 somehow, but anyways any info on this would be a huge help to us and future cool projects.

I've yet to see a PC that plays back Netflix without a frame drop somewhere, and I'm guessing Vudu is the same. Not to say it's impossible but I don't trust computers as the source for video capturing.

Did the person who provided you with Vudu video before quit?
