Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011)

A very good but slightly disappointing movie.  Very good until the apes go ape-shit, at which point it becomes disappointing.  Disappointing because the CG apes are really bad CG during the action at the end.  One nitpick, how did the apes go from numbering just a few (maybe 30?) at the facility to hundreds (thousands?) once they break out?  Going to one zoo to free more apes didn't make me buy it.  Also, I don't buy that Ceasar could just roll some magic gas into the facility and make all the other apes super smart as well.
You can listen to me try to figure all this out while watching the movie on a podcast. http://www.tysto.com/2014/09/commentary-rise-apes-with-drew/

I tried to convince Mrs O'Five that we need to go see T5:

"A lot of our friends say its actually a lot of fun."

"We watched the trailer for that... Is that the one with Arnold?"

"They all have Arnold."

"I mean, the one where he has a lot of cheesy lines."

"They all have cheesy lines."

"The one where the girl says the lines everyone else said in the other movies. 'Come with me if you want to live.'"

"That's the one."

"I'm not seeing that."

LEGO Star Wars: Droid Tales
Time

The Disney XD app has the first episode of “Droid Tales” up a week early. I cannot stress how incredible it is. It’s now my personal canon of how the prequels actually went.

To give you an idea, it begins at the end of Return of the Jedi, and when Luke sees Hayden Christensen as a Force Ghost, he questions who he is and why he looks so much different then he did 5 minutes ago. It’s like we wrote it.

However, I cannot get past the Tyrannosaurus paddock problem, where the ground magically drops 100 feet between T. rex's escape and Grant's/Lex's descent on the wire.  I cannot think of a reasonable justification.
I can save you d_e, for I had the same problem until I found this image a few weeks ago:

Rexie actually pushes the car forward and over. When Ellie shouts she can see the car, you can see she's not looking at the same section of fence.

Halo 5 will not have split-screen. I'm super disappointed. My wife and I have played every Halo game at least once together, the fact that they'd throw that away breaks my heart.

I mean, I was already disappointed enough in Halo 4 that I wasn't planning on getting Halo 5 and changed my preorder to Battlefront as soon as it was announced. But Battlefront having split-screen and Halo not really seals the deal.

*insert joke about split-screening my wife*

All Things Star Trek

That's Gabriel Köerner's concept for a reboot Enterprise, which 90% of websites will use thinking its the JJprise.

In other news:

http://trekmovie.com/2015/06/18/paramount-acquires-startrekbeyond-com-invites-star-trek-beyond-fan-creator-to-pitch-tv-series/

I don't believe this for a second. Guy happens to own domain Paramount wants, so Paramount (who doesn't have the rights to Star Trek on television) wants to hear his pitch. Either this isn't true at all and the guy is capitalizing on the fact that we all know the name of his concept he bought a domain for but never actually made anything, or he had the opportunity to make thousands of dollars for a domain Paramount needs and he threw it away to pitch to people who have no power to do anything with said pitch.

Besides, if this guy gets a pitch based on owning a domain name, what about the people who have a history with Star Trek (Robert Meyer Burnett, Michael Dorn, etc.) who have pitches who are being ignored by the studio?

I wonder why people even bother buying individual issues anymore. You rarely get done-in-one stories in mainstream comics anymore, so you're stuck having to wait months to read a single story that you could probably get through in an hour if you had the whole thing at hand.
I subscribe so I can talk about them each month (or whenever they end up coming out) with you fine people.

In the detention area, Luke could open the wrong cell door. So instead of finding Leia, there is someone else inside, maybe a particularly silly alien from some low-budget science fiction movie. Then Luke just closes the door, maybe he also says "oops" like his father used to when he was young. Repeat this as often as necessary.
This is an idea I approve of whole-heartedly. Don't keep it low-budget, throw everything into it. Alien, Predator, Roger Rabbit...
