On the contrary, I think the theatrical cuts are the ones generally with pacing problems.
Fellowship of the Ring, for example, in its theatrical incarnation feels very uneven to me, with the Mines of Moria scene seeming like a climax due to the overall faster pace/momentum of the film. It is then horribly distracting when you realize there is an hour left to the film. The Extended Edition, though slower, feels far more deliberate and what was originally intended.
The Two Towers loses a lot of the emotional development, and I never particularly felt the Extended Cut to be particularly ponderous.
Return of the King is long in any incarnation, with both versions feeling like they have uneven pacing. I still prefer the Extended for the world building, but it’s a major mistake to show the Army of the Dead agree to Strider’s terms beforehand.
I haven’t seen the theatricals in years, but I’m pretty sure I agree with Al here, especially the Army of the Dead thing. That moment when the ships pull into the port during the final battle was such a downer for me, as I figured this was a “pile on the good guys” moment, then Aragorn jumps down followed by the Dead. So good.

If this is the wrong place shoot this out there. Sorry but i had a thought what if the prequels instead of being three movies what if they were three separated premium or syndicated mini series or three full seasons to give enough time for the story to breath and of course written by george lucas but guided by someone so they come out great. Also this would mean there would be no need for a clone wars series because in this version the clone wars begins in episode 1. Same goes for return of the jedi a mini series would have worked for that movie as well.
Definitely the wrong thread since that has nothing to do with Empire Strikes Back Revisited or even Adywan’s plans for the prequels. There are plenty of other prequel edit threads where this could be suggested and probably already has been.

Ezra has spent the last 3 years with a trained Jedi. Luke spends like 4 hours with Obi-Wan.
I didn’t make the connection that they’re the EXACT same age. Now I get the significance of him being born on Empire Day.
Maul sees Tattooine because of Obi-Wan, Ezra because Luke is the key to defeating the Sith. So if they go to Tattooine to save Obi-Wan, they’re going to assume that Ezra just saw into Maul’s vision, not that it was the answer to his as well, and they’ll just leave.
Episode ends with Ezra-aged Luke, watching the suns set and a tiny Ghost taking off in the distance.
