Alien: Covenant already looks to have all of Prometheus’ problems. Why are all these scientist/explorers going into the unknown without protective suits? The trailer shows that they get infected by something bad through their unprotected ears and then cuts to people saying “we have no idea what’s out there.” Stupid.

Because the air is breathable? Why would you need a protective suit if you can breathe the air? It’s not like there could be untraceable alien toxins! Wait…

Maybe because no one survived the Prometheus mission, so they couldn’t phone home and say “People should probably keep their suits on, just so you know.” People who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

But seriously, I’m still not sold on AC. That teaser poster got me excited, but the trailer makes it look like a mashup of Prometheus and Alien and do we really need that?

Someone hasn’t seen The Nice Guys… Gosling was great in that!

From the article:

Instead, it has a 92-percent favorable score on Rotten Tomatoes. That’s crud! The Nice Guys is not 92-percent good! It’s like 70-percent good. Maybe less!

That’s not how Rotten Tomato scores work, buddy. I believe this is a troll post, especially judging by another one of his articles “Ryan Gosling Is Not All That Good Looking, IMO”

I forgot to add myself to the La La Land praise train. It’s extraordinary.

Frink, don’t listen to that article, it’s apparently written by some fuddy duddy who is judging a film because he thinks it will win awards because it has Ryan Gosling in it? Maybe Gosling knows how to pick good movies, it certainly seems that way.

Did you know they made a board game this year based on it?

I didn’t. It kept popping up as I was googling strategies for the PC game, but due to the generic name I just assumed it was unrelated. It actually looks quite interesting. It’s far too expensive for me though, so I’ll stick to the PC version for now. (I’m also assuming that the board game is very PT-influenced?)

Looks like Rebels vs Empire. Maybe some prequel planet names.

I wonder why they cut the scene of the tie fighter rising to meet Jyn on the comm tower? It was the most dramatic visual in all the trailers.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lNt40ufs-M8&t=32m17s

The TIE fighter rose up and was about to shoot Jyn but an X-Wing swooped in and destryoed it last second. Since the filmmakers felt like it was too repetitive with the AT-AT moment that happened minutes earlier, they decided to cut the sequence from the scene.

In hindsight, I’m actually happy they decided to cut it.

Where did that guy hear that? Reliable sources I’m familiar with have stated that was just a test effects shot that marketing decided to use.

He says it like fact, but quotes no sources. I call shenanigans.

PASSENGERS

Wow…Wow.

Loved the world building. Performances were spot-on for the plot. Well directed.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS

By sheer co-inky-dink, this production is P-R-E-C-I-S-E-L-Y what one would expect in a psy-op directed at those with critically needed technical skills and their “rewards” for good behavior. It touches all the bases. Their specialists need to become PURE EVIL. Everybody has the biometrics and lists of crimes of the elites and their tools. The guilty will be exposed after the culling. Satan’s is a kingdom divided. They can’t have their vitally necessary personnel joining forces or forming Master-Blaster arrangements with the outside survivors to avenge their families and friends and neighbors. The necessaries also need to believe, with Orwellian Doublethink, that this can all work out well in the end for them. Minorities need to imagine that they could take the deal, so long as they get in healthy. The sex slaves need to learn to take the zombie enslavement “medication” and just accept the deal. The less than critical tools must believe that they might get golden tickets and never realize that the Platinum and Diamond tickets will be for criticals, elites, and the prettiest of little TEA party children. Gold ticket holders and their families will be “processed” by the UN peacekeeper Jihadies guarding the outer perimeter. Above all, ‘White Heterosexual Protestant Male’ must be seen as responsible for everything.

Silly question, would they ever, in a million years, have portrayed an obviously secular Jewish male, or a bisexual Catholic doing anything remotely as despicable? I was wondering, apart from the money, why Pratt would participate in such an intense demonization of white protestant heterosexuals… then a saw a montage of his movie promotions.

END SPOILERS

The passage by the red star was spectacular. Wow…Just wow…

What the actual f. All this from a story celebrating Stockholm Syndrome.

The Force Awakens: Official Review Thread - ** SPOILERS **

1987 was a simpler time, when Halloween costumes had pictures of who you were supposed to be on them. You were, what, a senior in high school, Frink? 😉

Back on topic, I need to watch TFA again. My friend’s dad had it on when we went to their house for Christmas, it was cropped and motion smoothed, but still looked pretty great.

I got my six year old nephew a Darth Vader outfit for Christmas, but he kept taking off the mask and saying “Where is the map?” I’m a bad uncle, I’m not even sure what Star Wars he’s seen outside of TFA. I’ll sit him down sometime this year and we’ll watch ANH.

Lol, that’s pretty funny 😁

He rips off the mask, walks over to me, puts his hand on my forehead and with all seriousness in a low voice says “Where is the map?”. I laughed out loud, which upset him because it was serious time.

The recent Star Trek film handled the loss of Leonard Nimoy with grace. (Even though Spock Prime not appearing in any future installments could be more easily explained away.) Leia simply can’t vanish without some sort of explanation.

Exactly, Spock’s arc in Beyond is specifically defined by the loss of Nimoy and for me is the heart of the movie. I’m not sure how I’d be able to deal with 9 if Luke’s arc isn’t specifically about losing Han & Leia.

These rumors just keep flying, but still nothing concrete. I’m just finding it hard to get my damned hopes up. I’d download Harmy, but I’m scared of getting arrested.

You wont get arrested. The person who shared it would be more likely to get arrested. I’ve downloaded a ton of torrents over the years and never had an issue.

Almost all of the fan-edits of films I want are of movies I own at least one copy of, and sometimes several. My brother is a lawyer trying to get into Internet intellectual property law and says that it can be a pretty big fine if I get caught, but not arrested. Thanks, Atticus. Millions of people torrent stuff, but I swear, I’d be the damned one who got caught.

if you get a fine then what’s the point in getting these fan edits at all?

To enjoy them because most people won’t get a fine because they own the official releases?

I thought that show was American anyway. As in not actually anime, but maybe kinda looks like it sometimes. I never watched it, so I don’t know, that’s just what some friends of mine who did watch it told me.

It’s a Nickelodeon original series, its just so inspired by anime and Asian culture that most signage is in Chinese characters, so it might as well be anime. Anime made by Americans for Americans. Make Anime Great Again.

Good luck with Korra. It has some great moments but it never lived up to the quality of the original series for me.

I’ll temper my expectations accordingly. I’m also planning on grabbing the comics next time Comixology has a sale, they take place between Airbender and Korra and finish storylines from the first series while providing backstory for the second.

Yeah the Dr Evanzan and Walrusman Cameo felt really forced in there… But it was a heavily cut down sequence. There were meant to be a lot more shot’s showcasing the weirdo’s in Jedha city. So many creature effects and animatronics were totally cut from this part it’s sad. we were meant to not only see the Local’s and the Kyber Miners but some of the abominations created by Dr. Evanzan called the Decraniated (Cyborg Slaves). We also miss a small part where a Bounty Hunter was tracking Dr Evanzan and Walrusman.

You’re reading way too much into the visual guide. This is on par with believing The Tales of the Mos Eisley Cantina novel is a detailed account of a bunch of cut scenes from Star Wars.

Yeah, 90-100% chance that’s just Hildago trying to justify the weird background costumes Edwards picked to show up on set that day, not that they were planning to have Dr Evanzan actually have his own subplot in the finished film.

Now there’s a spinoff I could get behind…

Finished Avatar: The Last Airbender this weekend. I know we give “anime” a lot of crap around here, but I thought this series was a fantastic distillation of an anime series for American audiences. It has about as much plot as the 220 episodes of Naruto but condensed into 61, with only a handful of filler episodes. I really enjoyed the entire series and can’t wait to start Legend of Korra.

Ady, I’m curious if you have any plans to include or exclude the Death Star’s brief appearance at the end of Episode III.

I believe it’s not going to be there. Personally, I think it’d be better, watching chronologically, if you don’t know a DS could exist until R1 or even the crawl for ANH.
