Probably a stupid question whose answer is already known, but humor me:

In Harmy’s Despecialized Edition of SW 1977, it’s clear that Luke and Obi-Wan’s lightsabers are the same shade of blue. However, for some reason in the GOUT transfer Luke’s blade appears white in the scene on the Millennium Falcon.

Is it possible that some elements from the original in-camera white lightsaber effects (also seen in the 1976 trailer) snuck into the Falcon training scene on the 1990s laserdisc release?

The in-camera effect was just a reflection, like safety vests on construction workers. The outer glow would have been a post-production effect, which the training scene has.

I can’t find any Legends novels at my library except for a couple of Legacy of the Force, Fate of the Jedi and The Old Republic books, and the Darth Bane trilogy. Also, the Legends stuff I’ve read so far I’ve mostly liked.

The Thrawn trilogy is ok, but I’m not sure you need to read the Legends books before you read the new one. Though it is entirely possible that the new book fits into both canons, judging by its place in the timeline (pre-Rebels). Cause I’m sure Zahn can’t be arsed to care about there being a new canon.

The TFA Crawl colours and sound still feel weird to me. Maybe the typeface is slightly wrong?

TFA uses the same title font as A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. Return of the Jedi used a different font that they used throughout the prequels. The R’s are the biggest clues.

The color is fine. The theme recording does sound different.

As it should because it is a new recording unlike 2/3 of the PT crawls.

I haven’t caught this.

John Wick

I know, I’m late the party, but here I am. The story was just deep enough for me to care, while having smooth-shot action that’s been lacking for years now.

7/10

I watched both Wayne’s World films on TV. They’re both good, but I prefer the second one, as it takes more advantage of the fourth wall breaking and general silliness that populates the universe. I’d give them both a seven out of ten.

The second one also has Ralph Brown. I used to have his speech about getting Ozzy brown M&M’s memorized.

Star Wars parody from the makers of <em>Scary Movie</em> and other movie spoof films
Time

I already started guessing the jokes in a FB group:

Ends with a three-way between the Rey, Finn, and Poe analogs.

Old Kirk and New Kirk will fight somehow, while Uhura and Spock make out.

this is going to have someone who looks like Keanu Reeves kick a dog and shoot people in the head at some point, with the other characters yelling “oh shit, it’s John Wick!”

The small person they use in all their movies as Tyrion Lannister screwing a prostitute while drinking and shooting a crossbow.

The Stranger Things gang run into a scene, yell something, then run out.

Kylo Ren fires up his lightsabre and it’s hilariously a three pronged sex toy?

Supreme Leader Snoke on the toilet for sure.

BB-8 is just a soccer ball. But that’s actually kind of funny.

The Maz Kanata analogue is essentially Tyler Perry’s Madea, telling everyone they need Force Jesus.

The cantina band is Lady Gaga held up by wires.

Their Captain Phasma (Colonel Vag-ma, or some such shit) is Carmen Elecktra in a silver bikini and a helmet.

Randy Quaid makes an appearance as The Man in Black from Westworld.

Yes, Jakku is the old west, and it turns out they’re all robots, who could have guessed.

Our leads are hiding out in the Millennial Snowflake, when the true owner walks out, and who is it? But the Fast family and they start talking about family. Then something large falls on them
END OF JOKE

Doubles for all the principal actors begin body-popping.

What pop song is just old enough to include in a scene of Trump and Putin dancing?
“Happy”

I predict Ham Salad, the famous smuggler, will have plenty of things to say about the Millennial Snowflake.
And don’t forget the jokes about Hamilton, and how it’s just School House Rock for hipsters. Or. Something.

Just like a hundred lightsabers-as-dicks jokes

A tree will say I am groot. That’s it.

Also they will take a popular film set to be released around the time and insert something from the trailer in it.

Kylo Ren unmasks and he’s trump. That’s the joke. Oh wait, he mentions the Starkiller Base being yuge, and the rebellion is gonna pay for it.
The next time Kylo unmasks, no mention of the trump thing at all- instead Kylo’s a Shia Labeouf analogue who, after killing Han Solo (or I guess Hung Solow) picks up a fedora and puts it on- cue Indiana Jones theme because that’s still topical? He then says “My franchise now!”

The failing @nytimes does major FAKE NEWS China story saying “Mr.Xi has not spoken to Mr. Trump since Nov.14.” We spoke at length yesterday!

Here’s the story.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/09/world/asia/donald-trump-china-xi-jinping-letter.html?action=Click&contentCollection=BreakingNews&contentID=64895635&pgtype=Homepage&_r=0

President Trump told President Xi Jinping of China on Thursday evening that the United States would honor the “One China” policy, reversing his earlier expressions of doubt about the longtime diplomatic understanding and removing a major source of tension between the United States and China since shortly after he was elected.

In a statement, the White House said Mr. Trump and Mr. Xi “discussed numerous topics, and President Trump agreed, at the request of President Xi, to honor our One China policy.” It described the call as “extremely cordial” and said the leaders had invited each other to visit.

The concession was clearly designed to put an end to an extended chill in the relationship between China and the United States. Mr. Xi, stung by Mr. Trump’s unorthodox telephone call with the president of Taiwan in December and his subsequent assertion that the United States might no longer abide by the One China policy, had not spoken to Mr. Trump since Nov. 14, the week after he was elected.

had not spoken

HAD NOT SPOKEN

Apparently the print edition of the NYT doesn’t mention the call he made yesterday, which makes sense. But also means he subscribes to the “failing NYT”?

Is Lords of the Sith any good? I feel like that’s still a fairly untapped time period. Lost Stars I’ve heard is solid so I might check it out at some point even though nothing about it really excites me. Is Ahsoka any good? Haven’t really heard much about it. I actually read somewhere recently that Twilight Company is really solid, which I found interesting because (as a VG tie-in) I thought it’d be pretty throwaway. Can’t be bothered with Dark Disciple. Is A New Dawn worth a look? Will check out the new novelizations eventually. Any other books I’m missing?

Lords of the Sith is ok.

Lost Stars is my favorite part of the new canon and I recommend with all of my heart.

A New Dawn is great, gives some Kanan and Hera backstory and introduces Rae Sloane, the main villain of the Aftermath series.

I’ve consumed:

All the movies
All of The Clone Wars (including the story reels)
All of Rebels
Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir comic series
Shattered Empire comic series
Princess Leia comic series
Lando comic series
Chewbacca comic series
Obi-Wan & Anakin comic series
Kanan comic series
Darth Vader comic 1-20
Star Wars comic 1-19
Star Wars Annual 1 comic
Poe Dameron comic 1-2
Lost Stars novel
The Perfect Weapon short story
Before The Awakening anthology
Smuggler’s Run novella
Moving Target novella
The Weapon of a Jedi novella
Aftermath novel
A New Dawn novel
Lords of the Sith novel
Tarkin novel
Blade Squadron SWI short story
One Thousand Levels Down SWI short story
The End of History SWI short story

I own but haven’t finished Heir to the Jedi. I wasn’t enjoying it and stopped after finding out it (and Tarkin I believe) were Legends EU that were finished but unreleased that doesn’t fit right with the Star Wars comic series which is probably more canonical.

What movies do you consider canon?
Time

DominicCobb said:

By the way, these are the pieces of the new canon that I’ve consumed thus far:

  • (Episodes I-VII, Rogue One, TCW)
  • all of Rebels
  • all of the Vader comic and Vader Down
  • the Heir to the Jedi audio book
  • the Catalyst audio book
  • the beginning of the Tarkin audio book

so not really much so far though I am interested in more (and am taking suggestions). I have the first vol. of Poe Dameron, all of Kanan, the 3PO one shot, and Shattered Empire within reach and will read when the time is right. I will also 100% read Bloodline once I get the chance (and am quite stoked to). I’m fairly interested in the Aftermath series though am holding off until it’s done so I can binge read it.

Other than that? Not sure. How’s the main SW Marvel series? Princess Leia? Lando? Chewbacca? Han Solo?
Is Lords of the Sith any good? Lost Stars I’ve heard is solid. Any other books worth reading?

I guess come here and ask?

Awww crap, I thought for sure it was from the reboot.

Reboot had nothing so gleefully self-parodic…or so clever in any way.

The Reboot’s prologue is pretty good, like a Best of Jason. The rest is bleh.

I saw the reboot in the Theaters. It was not bad, but not as good as the original.

Not from the reboot. That one’s from Jason X aka Jason on a Spaceship.

Nah, that’s not from X. I forget which one it’s from. He does that in X too, but that gif is from… 7?

I feel like you’re right.

I just read something on the Wordpress page about Vader retaining his red lenses. I was actually wondering about that especially after seeing them on Vader’s helmet still intact on Rebels. Nice to hear that you’re going back to them, Ady. Your explanation makes perfect sense. 😃

Now another thing I’m wondering is the Rebel Hangar on Yavin IV. After watching fighters flying out of the Hangar on Rogue One, what’s the possibilities of seeing something similar happening on ANHR:SE? Mind you, though, the scene looks fine as it currently is anyhow.

I’m sure Ady would love to build a model of the Massassi Temple. Part of that is sarcasm, most of it is fear that he will. 😉

I’ll admit I was wrong, it was his daughter that had the clothes line, but it was his wife who won a lawsuit because she can’t bank on her brand as well as she’d like.

Libel is a legal matter that could cost any business millions of dollars, not just Mrs. Trump. Get a clue.

Libel is bad, yes, but she’s not a business. She’s a potential business because of her position as the First Lady. And isn’t badmouthing a corporation a form of libel? Sure, Nordstrom’s stock went up, but they can probably sue for the tweet.

Libel is libel, no matter what, learn your law. It also reads like he was taking a pot shot at himself, not Nordstrom, so I doubt it.

She’s the First Lady saying that she can’t exploit her new position for profit because of an article most of us have forgotten about. She rightly won the case, I agree, but it has to make you a little uneasy that she has no interest in this other than profit.
