also wanting their new films to be of a standard, feel and quality more akin to the Original Trilogy, than the Prequels.

But it eventually ended up being worse than PT. TFA “plot” is a complete trainwreck and any PT plot seems like a “masterpiece” in comparison. It takes a lot more than rehashing stuff from OT and randomly throwing it together in order to come close to OT quality.

Cool, thanks.

Justify why you have your opinion of certain episodes from the "Star Wars universe" as being canon (or worth watching).

It’s even more illogical when you consider the story of Star Wars has been written by many different people–sometimes not in collaboration with each other-- and has a million plot holes and retcons.

Again, it’s several people’s jobs to try to keep that from happening in the Disney canon. There is an official canon. People accepting that is more logical than having a head canon.

“Canon” means official canon as far as I’m concerned.

If you care about ‘canon’ of a fictional universe, you’re either a teenager, or I feel sad for you.

I’m glad its several people’s jobs to keep track of these things then.

Can you ever just let people have fun?

4K restoration on Star Wars
Time

We’re talking about Fox’s Blu-rays of 1-6 vs Disney’s digital copies. Fox is going to release the same discs every second until 2020 is over.

As for being the same stock, I doubt they have warehouses full of printed discs that every few years they put into a different case. And it’s not like they recall a store’s stock, rip open all the sets, put them in different cases, then send them back out. I imagine this is Fox having finalized disc images that they don’t have the rights to modify any more, so they just reprint them over and over.

Celebration 2017 Speculation
Time

Why would they discount the films on the exact day of the panel if there wasn’t something related to home media whatsoever? It’s not like most iTunes shoppers would know about the convention and connection otherwise…

They talked about the Convention on GMA, the average person knows about Celebration and are now thinking “maybe I should buy those movies, oh look, they’re on sale!” It’s not like Apple needs to get rid of the digital inventory.

And they’re $5 off the whole set. The saga isn’t in impulse buy territory.

On a slightly more related note: it’s hard to get an idea of scale from the photos - how large was the hangar model?

9ft L x 6ft W x 3-4ft H. It was made 1/72 scale

Holy Crap! Is this for real?! That Wampa looks sick. I can’t wait to see it in action.

That’s… no. That’s not the Wampa.

4K restoration on Star Wars

The grain removal tests are decent. There are also black and white test shots too.

Some seem a little too scrubbed though. Also, note the color correction is not
that consistent.

The stories of a personal Technicolor reference for Star Wars, is actually the
same one from a private individual who lent it to Lucasfilm, since they didn’t
have one available at the time. This print is the one that has been scanned
and is the basis for current fan restorations in 4k.

R1

This is a confusing post, especially for those who haven’t been following this thread (such as myself).

  1. You have posted some stills. Where did you get them? What are we seeing in them? Are they downrezzed from a higher quality source? If so, what is this source, have you seen said source in full, and do you still have access to it?

  2. Do we know what kind of source the clips in the Vimeo link are from? Same source as rogue1’s stills?

  3. Are these clips/stills WIP or finished?

  4. Are you saying that a Technicolor dye-transfer print was scanned for restoration? If so, by whom? If it was by an official entity, they would be acting stupid, as IB prints are ill suited to proper restorations due to high contrast, and should only be used for rough colour checks (sayeth Robert A. Harris).

  5. What 4K fan restorations are there? Are you talking about Mike Verta’s hyped-up-but-not-for-public-consumption restoration?

CONTEXT, PEOPLE!

Every negative1 post is confusing and assumes you know things even they don’t know.

The source is a demo reel for a restoration company from maybe 5 years ago that I believe the discovery of inspired the creation of this thread 3 years ago. If there was a Technicolor print scanned by LFL, we don’t know what happened to it, but most of the 4k scans, including, I imagine, negative1’s are based on it.
