It apparently still exists, yes.
Rogue One isn’t really my style of movie.

What do you guys think?Well, I think that Rogue One is, by far and without contest, the worst Star Wars ever
Two ways to convey similar thoughts, one stated reasonably, one designed to get people riled up through hyperbole and constant repetition.
Yeah, that’s something you’ll have to do for yourself.
Ha, I like it. Leia could say “Darth Vader, only you could be so [something else]” instead of just removing the line.
Also, should mention I’m fairly certain Ben Kenobi will be renamed Ken Benobi.
YES. It’s about time he took an actual cover name instead of just changing his first name.

DC Films co-head Geoff Johns said:
You would be silly not to analyze how a movie was received — what went right and what went wrong on the making of a movie. On Suicide Squad, the movie did incredibly well commercially. It didn’t work narratively. You had some great casting and some great characterizations, but where the story fell down was on narrative, on plot. We could do better. Batman v Superman was tonally dark. People didn’t respond to that.
Someone out there is listening.
What the hell are you talking about?
Star Wars has the folllowing versions:
(each distinct audio/visual combination listed separately)1 - 1977 premier version - limited release. Preserved in Puggo Grand and Moth3r’s bootleg (and a few other sources). Identified by alternate end credits and 3 effects shots that were revised (the Star Destroyer shooting at the Falcon, the matte painting composite outside the hanger on Yavin IV, the planet/jungle composite of the fighters taking off). Likely all 70 mm prints were of this version. Featured one of the first 4 track surround sound mixes using the Dolby Stereo system. 1977 sound mix was the same for both matrix stereo and 6 track magnetic on 70 mm prints (the 70 mm prints featured at least one LFE track, probably two)
2 - 1977 wide release version - changed the end credits and the three effects shots. Also introduced the mono mix. Preserved in the Technicolor IB prints and all the known 35 mm prints. All foreign language versions of the film come from this edit.
3 - 1981 re-release - changed the opening crawl to add Episode IV and A New Hope. Otherwise the same as 2. It seems older prints in good shape had the new crawl spliced on so some prints may have been from the premier version.
4 - 1982-1985 home video release - A unique version found in home video that usually featured the 81 crawl, the original premier version of the three effects shots, and the revised end credits. 77 sound mix.
5 - 1985-1989 home video release - A unique version found in home video that featured the 81 crawl, the original premier version of the three effects shots, and the revised end credits. Preserved in the JSC. New sound mix.
6 - 1985 new interpositive version - 2 with the 1981 crawl. First release was the Definitive Edition with a new sound mix.
7 - 2006 GOUT - 6 with the original 1977 crawl put back. Essentially the same as 2, but with the audio mix of 6.
8 - 1997 SE
9 - 2004 DVD
10 - 2011 Blu-rayBecause of the timeline that some of the events are tied to (the foreign language prints, the mono mix, the extant 35 mm prints, the new interpostive in 1985), the alternate end credits and the alternate version of the three effects shots must be from the earliest prints. The negative was edited and remained unchanged (except for the opening crawl) from 1977 until the SE edits were made. My guess as to why so many versions of the home video feature the alternate three effects shot is that they used either interpostives or prints from the premier batch and updated the opening crawl and end credits. And they are only found in English language editions.
I know that the “3 effects shots that were revised” were in 77, but it might still be interesting to have them on the list. Does anyone have a preservation of the JSC that can send me those three shots?
Most people, even self professed Star Wars fans, only watch the movies maybe once a decade. The people who should be leading this charge are film preservationists, because the average fan doesn’t even notice the differences.
Neat! Wish I had a personal reason to use them!
Ady, are you working in 8 or 10 bit color - and if 10 bit, will you be releasing a 10 bit version?
Although I think 10 bit is an improvement even if it’still an 8 bit source don’t you need a 10 bit source or raw scan to really make a difference?
I think changing to 10 bit depth does do something positive regardless although I don’t know the specifics… I think it just allows a better gradient?
If I recall correctly, Poita has provided Ady with raw 4k 16-bit scans.
I don’t recall this, but if this is the case, it was only for frames or short sections. The base is still the Blu-ray.
Or, any kind of restoration would be done internally to LFL and general Disney restorationists wouldn’t know anything about it.
Aww, was it only a flash sale?
I mean, it was most of last week, they just didn’t advertise it very well. They’re still 50% off.
Sure it’s not, but we don’t need to crowd the thread with counting posts, as very soon it’s going to be full of people trying to get information how to get the edit.
But why count down to something that may come out BEFORE the count is over? Or after even?
So the Scarlet Witch’s power in this universe is essentially just telekinesis with a fancy red lightshow?
Meh.
She may be working her way to “reality bending god powers”. But I think it’s hard to justify that in a Universe without Mutants.
I recorded a mostly-humorous commentary for Rogue One this weekend. Check it out, if you care!
I do agree that some of the added shots in the SE are too much “in your face”.
I do believe that the one SE shot that should be left in is the one after it’s arm gets cut off.
That’s the point where it goes beyond “LOOK, THE WAMPA!” to some kind of parody.
“YOU DIDN’T REALIZE THAT IF YOU CUT AN ARM OFF A WAMPA IT WOULD ONLY HAVE ONE ARM!”
Could you give us a breakdown on the scene’s that are going to be shot with the wampa?
I believe it’s just the 3 shots of the Wampa from the theatrical cut.
I know if I was going to make a sequel or prequel, I would re-watch my old movies to make certain I am not messing things up.
Someone had to remind Lucas that Obi-Wan needed to pick up Anakin’s lightsaber before he left Mustafar.
Noticed that the VUDU digital copy of Rogue One has burned in alien subtitles but the iTunes version doesn’t. Not sure if that’s useful for any fan edit or anything.
Amazon is having a Kindle/Comixology sale on all Marvel trades, if you want to read the comics, they’re like $2 for a trade (which is like 5-6 issues).
Those were the original main two. The rest of them are also out there for cheap. They’re readable on a Kindle app or Comixology.
School of Rock.
Looks like she built a blue saber, but Luke built her a red saber that fit her hand better. Then she got training from somebody who forced her to build herself another one? So she had like 4 sabers because people wanted her to have different colors, I guess.
No, the plan was to create one with the features Ady likes and replace all the shots.
