Damn, that closing celebration matte has never looked good, has it? I can see why you were torn... there's not a lot to work with. That original matte looks horrible in the original film print and has always stood out. I have to say that I would probably prefer the way it was in 1.0 since darkening the sides is hugely distracting... I mean everyone knows that scene and how it's supposed to look. It just appears to be noticeably altered and will be distracting when viewing the film. I sympathize, because this must be a tough, touch call.

If it were me, I'd actually go with the SE shot as it's not an offensive inclusion and it looks so much better and more natural in HD. Have you considered freezing the SE shot to create a new matte? That way the guards wouldn't be moving and would emulate the original shot, but wouldn't look as horrific.
No SE, in every possible case. That's what I will encourage.

Am I the only one to notice in this screenshot that the re-rotoscoped blade isn't aligned correctly with the lightsaber emitter?
No, you're the only one who didn't read my next post!

I love the new pics! Also love the screenshotcomparison.com  concept of  mouse-over picure change. The changes really stand out this way!
I'm surprised I don't use that site, as often as I bring stuff into Photoshop just to turn layers on and off like that.

Notes from FB comments:

For Vaders saber in the cave, just listen to the scene. His sabre is heard igniting but it is already lit in that shot, so you now see it ignite. The hangar shot hasn't had the ceiling replaced yet ( you can still see where the set ends). This will be replaced once i have built and filmed the new hangar miniature.

the blade in the original was not only attached in the wrong place, but also bent. You can see here that the new rotoscoped blade is correct:

Adywan says:

"Well i've almost finished transferring all the FX work to the new blu-ray sourced video. The difference in quality between the HDTV and the Blu-Ray is pretty noticeable. Some shots weren't as easy as just importing the new source video because of the slight differences in colour, grain structure etc. So these need a lot more work. But i've tweaked most of the shots in some small or large way."

OT.com memes (definition and origin)
Time

I was watching Frasier last night and missing VFP. You see, Ender, VFP had a few humorous socks, one of them being "Dr. Frasier Crane". I was invited to play "Dr. Niles Crane" (my first and only sock) one afternoon. That was as long as it lasted. My "brother" and I fought on some music appreciation thread and got banned after only a few hours. Moth3r didn't think we were funny.

Ric Olie and Biff Tannen remain the only obvious socks that are still around, though Biff's identity remains hidden, as far as I know.

My similar-named friend here is correct, though you have to capitalize the second adjective. This thread has fallen away from its purer motive. Perhaps xhonzi can bring it back around.

I have to add Gollum to my list.  I read the Hobbit years ago before the LOTR films came out and thought he was fascinating even then.  Almost done rereading it now, and his brief introduction in this book is fun.  A bizarre and interesting character, even before LOTR really fleshed him out.  I'd probably file him under "love to hate."
Gollum = tragic hero. He didn't ever want power. He only wanted the Ring. Then some jerk stole it from him, and wanted to take back what was rightfully his. At least he died happy...
