Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)
Time

I was up at my dad's this weekend and I noticed that the Blockbuster near his house was having a "Store Moving" (moving online, there were tiny signs beneath the big ones saying as much) sale and everything was for sale. We went in hoping to find the SW Blu's and while they only had ESB and RotJ (and three other movies claiming to be Star Wars), we bought them both for $10 a piece! I need to find ANH solo, then my fan edits will be justified, and I didn't have to give anything to LFL!

The issue with that would be every viewscreen, phaser blast, and transporter effect has to be redone, meaning flipping back and forth between 1080p and less-than-DVD quality quite frequently.  I don't think seamless branching is an option, you'd have to have the entire series on the discs twice.
This.  TNG is simply not in the same situation as TOS.  Even TOS space scenes look quite bad on BD: if I want to see the original effects, which I often do, it's less jarring to watch the DVDs.
What do mean the TOS space scenes look bad on the BD?  May I remind you the special effect scenes done in the 1960s?  Do they really look better on the DVD or is it just a problem of going from the HD non-space scenes to the non-HD space scenes?

The TOS Blu space scenes are in HD. Originally that's all the Remastered was going to be, the original negative scanned and presented. However, they found that all of the generations of film stock used to make all of the layers degraded the effects significantly in comparison to the fresh-off-the-camera live action. So they decided to do the CG upgrades to make them more consistent, since I'm assuming no one kept the original effect elements from a low-budget 60's scifi show.

Thankfully they preserved the original idea by letting you select all of the original effects.

Just as the CG additions of slapstick comedy at the start of the Mos Eisely sequence instantly undoes Obi-Wan's warning of how dangerous and villainous the town is, undermining the bad guys undermines the heroes, and destroys the drama.
I never put that together! Obi-wan tells them to be cautious, but in the next shot we see its only because no one is a responsible driver and the streets are clogged with dinosaurs.

Watching it again last night Aliens hasn't stood the test of time anywhere near as well as Alien 3 and I never thought I'd see myself typing that.

It looks like it was made for television and the dialogue is very clunky and cheesy (more like the other sequels than the first film).

I get the impression that the only reason Newt survived so long was because the aliens wanted to stay as well away from Carrie Henn's awful screeching and terrible line delivery as possible.

It's a fun silly action film on it's own but it doesn't really work as a sequel to the first film.
My thoughts on this

Hi all, back from a short break in Brighton. Anything interesting happen while I was away?
Well, let's see. First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di's clothes. I couldn't believe it.

What's wrong with Fett having a name and/or appearing in RotJ? I never thought it was an issue for so many of you.
Fett does have a name. (it's Bobba Fett in case anyone didn't know) But I (and others apparently) see no reason to shove it into ESB.
I agree. But I thought people were thinking on getting rid of Boba Fett (the name) in RotJ. That I see no reason to happen.
I'm pretty sure no one has a problem with "Boba Fett? Boba Fett? Where?"

But all of this is off topic. There's no way/reason that Adywan will add Vader saying "Boba Fett" into ESBR.

Here's food for thought: When there was a poll on BobaFett.com years ago, the majority of people said they felt the same way about Boba after Ep II.
People on sites named after things tend to have opinions that they will always like the things on the site.

See "originaltrilogy.com". ;-)

But on topic, there is no reason for Vader to say or even acknowledge Boba except for "fan wankery". Such things are not what this edit is for. This is coming from the guy who is leading the charge on removing Boba from RotJR completely, so take from it what you will.

Why would you watch someone play a video game?
I've actually been watching Lord of the Ring bonus features while the wife has been playing this weekend. Apparently too many, as I had a dream I was working with Peter Jackson on the Hobbit, and all I could think of was to ask if he'd be willing to shoot a clip of Martin Freeman hitting the same beats the youngerized Ian Holm did in the prologue of Bilbo finding the Ring in Fellowship of the Ring so that fan editors could replace the original if they wanted to while preserving the film in its original state.

I need help.

Whose arm?

I think they first wanted the flipper, then decided it looked too weird/impossible to hold a gun. Then they decided to change the hand but didn't notice that you could see the original flipper before the fight.
So they take a fish guy and hope you don't notice that he doesn't have furry clawed arms? It just does not compute.

The EU explanation is interesting/dumb. Apparently some Aqualish, from a planet covered with water, evolved to have furry five-fingered arms instead of flippers. Then they had to add another race when the Aqualish in the prequels have THREE fingers and FOUR eyes!

Complete Comparison of Special Edition Visual Changes
Time

My friends, we made the big time. It was a few months ago, but still!

http://redlettermedia.com/half-in-the-bag/the-people-vs-george-lucas-and-star-wars-discussion/

These are the guys that did the incredible Prequel reviews. They have a (slightly) more normal show where they talk movies, but a few months ago they had the director of People Vs George Lucas. I just got around to watching it and thinking "man, I wish they had seen the Visual Comparisons" when this pops up:

I immediately paused because I know that frame...

We were included in a half-legitimate complaint-fest on the SE changes!
