I was up at my dad's this weekend and I noticed that the Blockbuster near his house was having a "Store Moving" (moving online, there were tiny signs beneath the big ones saying as much) sale and everything was for sale. We went in hoping to find the SW Blu's and while they only had ESB and RotJ (and three other movies claiming to be Star Wars), we bought them both for $10 a piece! I need to find ANH solo, then my fan edits will be justified, and I didn't have to give anything to LFL!

TOS space scenes were done on film. TNG and on were live action film, SFX video, edited on video.

This.  TNG is simply not in the same situation as TOS.  Even TOS space scenes look quite bad on BD: if I want to see the original effects, which I often do, it's less jarring to watch the DVDs.

What do mean the TOS space scenes look bad on the BD?  May I remind you the special effect scenes done in the 1960s?  Do they really look better on the DVD or is it just a problem of going from the HD non-space scenes to the non-HD space scenes?

Maybe it was intended to be one but I just visually read it to be a weblike structure in the room for some reason we never saw on screen.

I'm in, if they keep it as gritty as the books. At least PG-13.

Watching it again last night Aliens hasn't stood the test of time anywhere near as well as Alien 3 and I never thought I'd see myself typing that.

It looks like it was made for television and the dialogue is very clunky and cheesy (more like the other sequels than the first film).

I get the impression that the only reason Newt survived so long was because the aliens wanted to stay as well away from Carrie Henn's awful screeching and terrible line delivery as possible.

It's a fun silly action film on it's own but it doesn't really work as a sequel to the first film.

Adywan will be replacing these mattes with new ones.

Its the same elements recomposited, exactly what was promised. Looks good!

It got me all kinds of pumped up. It was all I could do to not drive to Walmart and buy Alien on Blu-ray (I only have Aliens so far).

You could argue that Luke isn't supposed to be the main focus of the shot. But then Fett is supposed to be the main focus, which is almost worse!

Fett does have a name. (it's Bobba Fett in case anyone didn't know) But I (and others apparently) see no reason to shove it into ESB.

I agree. But I thought people were thinking on getting rid of Boba Fett (the name) in RotJ. That I see no reason to happen.

So you HAVE all of these sources?! Incredible! I'd love to see some of the open-matte shots you refer to. Jaws movies and the makings of always interest me.

I wonder how well put together the rumored Blu-ray will be. Rumor is that 3 will even be in 3D!

I think they first wanted the flipper, then decided it looked too weird/impossible to hold a gun. Then they decided to change the hand but didn't notice that you could see the original flipper before the fight.

These are the guys that did the incredible Prequel reviews. They have a (slightly) more normal show where they talk movies, but a few months ago they had the director of People Vs George Lucas. I just got around to watching it and thinking "man, I wish they had seen the Visual Comparisons" when this pops up:

I immediately paused because I know that frame...


We were included in a half-legitimate complaint-fest on the SE changes!

I checked and the stripe had not been added in the now-year-and-a-half-old workprint I have. Of course, the project has been restarted twice since then, so I'm not sure how useful my checking can be... ;-)
