FYI the script isn't about King John as the goodie, but rather the script centres around the Sheriff of Nottingham, investigating a string of murders that may or may not have been done by the Terrorist 'Robin Hood'

My mother will be disappointed to hear that.  Our ancestor is once again relegated to Disney villain status. ;)

Well.. I can tell you the last movie I didn't see. There might have been a thread called "The Last Movie I Didn't See" at one point in time, but I couldn't find it.

(and this is more of a mini-series anyhow)

I didn't see Red Dwarf: Back to Earth. In fact, I didn't even know it existed. How did this not hit my radar?

I blame Ripplin.
My boss bought John Carter, so I'm going to borrow it solely based on your recommendation and so you won't hate me anymore.

Alternate camera angles in ROTJ Kenobi/Luke scene on Dagobah?
Time

That is indeed what we call "Faces" or "THX". As the changes guy, I have to say that this is first time I've heard of alternate angles used in that scene. I sincerely doubt it, and would attribute it to going from the fullscreen TV version to the widescreen (if that is a picture of what you had). If your VHS was fullscreen as well, it could have been a different crop (which is not something we've tracked).

What duration do you think Prometheus covers.  two three days?
The captain celebrates Christmas when they wake up from cryosleep. Rapache in her rip-off-of-Alien log says its new years day. So a week, but I can't account for more than two days of incidents. They land, explore, come back, leave the guys, go back to find them, come back, discover pregnancy (10 hours after encounter), I'm sure she's not knocked out for more than a few hours, has baby, goes back in, everything goes to hell. Done. Maybe the first few days are just them approaching the planet so they have time to recover from their sleep?

I hope those extra twenty minutes is where they kept all of the characterization, or explained why "Checkov's" self-surgery pod existed and was only programmed for a man when it was in Theron's personal quarters. If it was for Weyland, why? She wanted him dead, no surgery could have saved him from anything anyway.
i like the idea of the possibility that she was an android also... she didn't need much time to recover from stasis, and she was able to choke and handle david pretty well.... who knows what happened when she told the ships captain to come by her quarters?

I think the point of her character was supposed to be that David was the son Weyland never had, which he said just to spite her. If she was an android too, she was better and more natural than the David model, and how could Weyland be disappointed that she was a girl if he made her?

That's what people are complaining about? Internal bleeding? Not that it only affected her for 5 minutes while she wandered around a ship that was still full of people and no one notices or talks to her about it? SHE HAD AN ALIEN BABY AND DIDN'T TELL ANYONE! David seemed pretty insistent on it being born, why would he not check on it when she shows up bloody and naked in Weyland's room?

But seriously, most of the characters were just there. And not like a cheesy horror movie where they each had their cliche, they were just there. The captain of the Prometheus didn't seem phased by any of his crew dying, and ended up ramming the Space Jockey ship with volunteers I'm pretty sure had no dialog until that point. "Alien" managed to make you care about each character, even making you guess at who the main character is. "Prometheus" gives you the main character, who barely acts human, does things because they're symbolic, and is surrounded by people whose names we don't even remember.

By the way, I loved catching the first Sunday showing at my local theater. The wife and I were the only people in there, so we could talk like we would at home. "I'm sure that Theron's quarters are a life support pod will never enter into this again", mostly just "come on!"

Saw it today. I wanted to like it. I really did. But I just didn't. I liked the beginning, pretty much everything until the first penis alien opened up to reveal its vagina mouth. Unfortunately it never recovered. From alien c-sections which barely phases the mother who doesn't tell anyone about it, to "shocking" reveals that I could have called from the first 10 minutes. Vagueness abounds, and even after reading theories (especially this one that pretty much says the Xenomorphs were made because we killed Jesus) I'm still not sure what the movie was trying to say. It certainly took a long time going nowhere.

And that was not a Xenomorph at the end, not phallic enough.*

General Star Wars <strong>Random Thoughts</strong> Thread

Apologies if this has been covered.

It's recently been noted that the exterior shots of the Falcon cockpit have been cropped in Empire. Unless I'm mistaken, there has been some mystery as to why this was done.

Well, the answer seems to lie in The Making of the Empire Strikes Back. See, when George had the cockpit set designed for Star Wars he wanted it be a cramped set in order to reflect real world cockpits.

When it came time to rebuild the set for Empire, Kurtz requested that it be built a bit more spaciously. Why? Apparently, the actors had complained to him that the cramped quarters of the original set were hindering their performance. Lucas didn't know about the change and was not pleased once he found out, but by then the set had been completed and he could not afford the time or money to have it rebuilt.

So, over twenty years later he has the cockpit frames zoomed in and cropped to give the appearance of a more compact space. Why he simply didn't have Kershner film it that way in the first place remains a mystery.

It's almost like Kershner had his own idea about how to frame shots and it wasn't Lucas' call anymore.

It blows my mind, all of the things they DIDN'T fix and Lucas apparently was still upset about it that he had them rescan and zoom in every cockpit shot in Empire.
