Alright I figured I'd update you on my #1's.

Annihilation Prologue

I didn't follow this at all, sorry. Too grand for a starting point, not enough familiar characters for me.

You get a reprieve for the moment, 005!  As there (currently) is no enemies list.
Maybe I read the wrong comic? Skrees and Skrulls and Thanos, and a group of space police wiped out by a bug army? I think?

I read Secret War #1. That I can get behind.

I was worried when I got the notification of a new post. "Oh no! I can't read the post, I didn't watch---"

Yes I did. That's my review of the episode. 24 hours later and its completely gone from my memory.

Now that I'm thinking about it, I remember more. The TARDIS has a "scaredy-cat" setting now? That's convenient for the plot. That's probably something they have to think of every episode. Why can't he use the Sonic Screwdriver? He dropped it. Why can't they just get everyone out on the TARDIS? It got scared and left. Introducing Clara to the TARDIS translation matrix in an episode where the TARDIS is on the other side of the planet is pretty weak. How do The Doctor and Clara get from one side of the planet to the other? Certainly not in the Russian sub.

Are they still going with the "every episode is a movie" thing they did in the first half? Because I can't say any of these episodes is very epic so far.

Alright I figured I'd update you on my #1's.

A-Babies vs X-Babies

An adorable one-shot with Baby Captain America fighting Baby Cyclops over a Bucky Bear doll.

Annihilation Prologue

I didn't follow this at all, sorry. Too grand for a starting point, not enough familiar characters for me.

Avengers, Vol 1

I had to read this one, the original Avengers meeting up. I love these old comics, with Stan Lee explaining what is happening in EVERY SINGLE PANEL.

Baby's First Deadpool

Another one-shot, a fake coloring book / story book about Deadpool

Hawkeye (2012)

I have a friend who is in love with the Matt Fraction Hawkeye series. You can really see why. Simple art, simple story of what Hawkeye does when he's not Avenging.

Iron Man, Vol 4

Figured I'd read a recent Iron Man. I did not care for the art on this one. It was kind of CG, very weird.

Marvel's Iron Man 3 Prelude

I'm a sucker for movie tie-ins, actually bought the 2nd issue of this (of 2). It's pretty good.

Marvel's The Avengers Initiative

A simple one-shot that shows what the Avengers were up to just before the Avengers Movie.

New Avengers: Illuminati

I misremembered the recommendation of Anniliation, which caused me to download this one. It's a Road To The Civil War book, and I really liked it. I'd love to read Civil War, but it looks like its spread out across way too many books.

Superior Spider Man

I read about how the last Spider Man series ended, so I'd be interested to check out the newest one. Even without having read any Spidey, this grabbed my interest. Of all I've read, this is the one I might keep reading.

I wish I had a lot more disposable income...

I borrowed a DVD from the library the other day.  I had to bring the empty case to the this redbox style vending machine which spits out the discs.  A monitor shows an animation of a DVD case being scanned, the disc being vended, and the disc going into the case.

What's on the case?

The Star Wars Holiday Special.

Which is sadly not available at my public library.

The animation on the vending machine is of the Holiday Special? You have to take pictures of this.

PICTURE

Yes, I just checked out Brick.
That is hilarious. The cover, not Brick. At least I don't think it is.

I have that cover on my hard drive.

Last one I read was "Star Trek: Countdown to Darkness" #4, the last part of the comic that leads into the new movie. If any of the events are referenced in the movie, I will be shocked. It's not terrible, just forgettable. Except for Harry Mudd having a hot Bajoran daughter. I'll never forget that.

In other comic news, I got my email from Comixology yesterday allowing me to choose my free Marvel #1's from their failure a few weeks ago. For those that don't know, Marvel announced that you could download every single #1 for free from Comixology. The site crushed under the massive weight of traffic this caused. It was flakey for days, even if you weren't trying to add 700 issues to your cart. So they called it off, but allowed you to sign up for an email when they sorted things out. They sent out an email early this week saying that I was going to get an email with a link just for me to use to choose my issues, which I guess is how they're keeping traffic down. So last night I individually added something like 690 comics to my cart, which were immediately unlocked on my account (even though they gave themselves 12 hours to unlock them).

I'm immediately overwhelmed. Every #1. In no particular order. I don't know what's current, what came first, anything. I'll poke around for a bit with them, I probably won't buy ANY #2+, but I love having a collection, even if it's digital and could disappear if licensing falls apart.

Suggestions on #1's I should make a priority?

Okay, I've seen Inception, so when do we do this thing?
Holy crap, man, I had completely forgotten about this thread. I got the email and was like "What on earth have I subscribed to?"

I knew there was a thread I wanted to post this in, but couldn't remember which one. Mrs. O'Five and I did a commentary on Inception for Commentary Track Stars:

I forgot that it was you guys that convinced me to go see it, and I apologize for not giving you a shoutout.

Did he use models for the space scenes in Star Trek 2009? If not, I imagine it'll be all CG for the space scenes in Episode VII too.
He did not. There weren't many models, but he shied away from greenscreen. He went on location for the Engineering (which you could take or leave), and he used mirrors to reflect the sky for the orbital dive sequence.

Issue #127 (February 1988)  has an interview with Lucas where he briefly touches on his ideas for a prequel and sequel trilogy.

I like this little tease:

STARLOG: Why didn't you give Luke a girl?

LUCAS: You haven't seen the last three yet

Might we see a possible Mara Jade-type character in the new trilogy?
You're hilarious. Like Lucas would agree with anything he said 25 years ago.
