He was referring originally to AOTC as the worst. It depicted 3 moons in the sky.

I know that. But LZ changed it to “best” in reference to AOTC, which is a ridiculous claim. So I decided to interpret it as the actual best, ANH, which now explains my joke about why we would be worried about continuity with ANH in an ANH fan edit.

I was confused I thought you were referencing ANH. AOTC is the worst though.

So what did you think Starkiller was talking about?

Looks amazing, Adywan! I only have 2 complaints:

 1. I never liked the idea of adding a third moon to the opening shot. Messing with such an iconic shot for the sake of continuity with the best Star Wars movie doesn’t feel right to me.

 2. The rotoscoping on the shot of the Rebel trooper looks pretty rough, although it will probably look better in the final version.

I fixed it for you.

If your phrase is correct, how can this movie not have continuity with itself?

He said it was the worst SW movie so I switched it to the best.

Right, and this movie is the best.

Which one is the best? I’m confused

The topic of conversation.

My wife has been asking me, “what are you doing”, and I just say “stuff for the board” because I don’t want to nerd her out.

So last week my wife and I were driving home from dinner and I tell her that Indiana University is showing the SE’s next month. She asked if I wanted to go, and I said I was kind of hoping they’d invite me to introduce the movies since I know about all the changes.

“Why would they invite you?”

“I know about all the changes. I’m the change guy.”

“Doesn’t everyone know about this stuff?”

“No. I’m the guy. I’ve been gathering changes for almost a decade now. I have ILM employees who comment on my Twitter account saying how they appreciate what I’m doing.”

I was always vague when she asked what I was doing (“my Star Wars project”), apparently I downplayed it so much that she had no idea how big of a thing this was. She’s almost in shock that she learned something new about me after 14 years of marriage, especially since it’s been happening for a vast majority of that time.

Also, I’m going to be going through this thread and adding credits to the photo album for the changes you all helped me find.

George Lucas: Star Wars Creator, Unreliable Narrator & Time Travelling Revisionist...

I was trying to find an interview with George that was in Empire magazine somewhere in the early 2000s. THX had just been released on DVD so it was a tie-in piece. So like, let’s say 2004. The interviewer asked him about the new changes to the film and the quote I want to say was something like…

“Oh it’s like Star Wars. There is no original version”.

Of course I could be mistaken and this is probably paraphrasing without remembering the actual question the journalist posed but the answer he gave stuck in my brain. I don’t own any copies of this magazine any more and I don’t think there’s a transcript online.

If you do find, this, let me know.

Are you still making a new Cargo Shuttle so Vader and the Emperor aren’t using the same ship as the “Parts and Technical Group”? I imagine if Vader lands in his fancy shuttle then the next shot is a Cargo Shuttle we won’t habe the “did they wait till morning to take off?” confusion.

Call me ignorant or whatever,

Ok

but I don’t see the benefit of 4K for these movies. They are old movies that, whether we all like it or not, will always look like old movies.

This is besides the point of a 4K fan edit, but you do realize that film resolves to a resolution of 4K if not more and that there is a fan preservation of the movies in 4K right over here gestures vaguely to the internet that looks like magic with automated tools cleaning them up. Or the fact that dozens of movies as old as or older than Star Wars get UHD releases every week and look incredible.

We can’t keep running around spreading this misinformation that Star Wars is somehow too old to be preserved properly. We can’t believe that, especially when LFL has already done it themselves internally.

Speculation about the 4K Future of AOTC and ROTS

This video could be helpful for understanding some things. It doesn’t go into HDR as much as it should, but it does explain that our uscales usually use just one method, while the professionals use different upscaling methods per shot sometimes. So AotC/RotS would benefit from a professional upscale, not to mention the less-compression UHD provides AND wide color gamut.

From doubleofive’s Star Wars Visual Comparison twitter account:-

https://twitter.com/StarWarsVisComp/status/1138113595722670080

‘In order to add details into the deep shadows present in the original shot, Vader’s face, chest plate, legs, and right arm were added from another source & tracked onto his body for the DVD. (2004)’…

Harmy pointed this out years ago, and I wasn’t sure what to make of it as we thought it was brightening only. Recently someone else pointed it out again with the explanation that they are new pieces. Check out the tweet thread for GIFs.

Hey everyone. Can somebody please help me find the Xvid version of ANH:R? I’ve failed for days to find it and am losing hope…
It’s the only version that correctly has Ponda Baba’s arm severed. I don’t know why Adywan changed that one. If someone could help me I would be so grateful.

It was changed for 2 reasons.

 1. Ponda had hoof/ flipper like hands. You can see this clearly in the Cantina. So none of them hand the furry hands

 2. Ponda doesn’t even go to draw his weapon at the moment Obi-Wan strikes. the ONLY one to draw their weapon was Dr Evazan. So it should be Evazan’s severed arm on the floor

Right! What I’m asking is, what was wrong with your flipper edit? Though what you point out does make sense. That scene does play out strangely. Thanks for doing what you do, friend. I’m dying to get my hands on ANH:R HD.

Like Ady said, in this picture Ponda hasn’t even flinched, let alone grabbed a gun with his… suction cup somehow? So it turns out that adding the flipper just asks more questions than it answers.

I watched 2.7 Despecialized Star Wars last night. Looks very good, but I noticed specular highlights were clipped at various times throughout the movie. Reflections could sometimes look too bright. Any thoughts on this?

Probably because most of it is using the Blu-ray as a source which suffers from things like that.
