Jeez Gaffer, you must have been a pretty serious 9 year old :) Thanks for the post. Also dark_jedi and danny_boy for contributing to the thread. All valuable input.
A: Pineapple, I think. But we only have raspberry left - sorry.
Q: Who are those guys?
A: Who's on first.
Q: Do androids dream of electric sheep?
This thread is not funny enough. Isn't there another thread for linking to LOLs etc. Frinky? I would like to see the thread returned to its original vision. Give us some good Star Wars usernames not links. I presume most lurkers would not choose something random from a recent post. If I am missing the whole point, do let me know.

^ Hoping I'm not included here. I am genuinely curious to know if you knew about the originally intended story before you saw Empire, and if that is part of the reason you don't buy into it.

My challenge to those who don't buy Vader being Luke's father is to actually come up with a good argument against it
It's well documented in articles, interviews, web sites, & books that Vader wasn't Luke's father prior to Empire. To suggest otherwise is either revisionism or baiting.
In Lucas' original script (vision), Luke is in his 60s, Annikin is 18, and Darth Vader (first name, last name) is just a military general - not a Jedi, not a Sith. Three wholly separate and unrelated characters.
and you'll have to do better than..."George Lucas never intended".
People are free to dig or not dig the story as it was changed by Lucas in 1980, but to suggest that it was always his intention is incorrect.

I agreed with S_Matt about this, not from the point of view of what was or wasn't originally intended but whether it works for the climax of a fantasy story. I added a qualifier:

The only thing I can think of to justify that attitude would be if they had access to George's intentions ahead of time (I don't know if that was or wasn't possible with whatever material was available to the public at the time).
*edit* By intentions, I mean to NOT have Vader as Luke's father.
Is this you Anchorhead? Did you know that it was not planned before you saw Empire?
*and THEN back to Jedi dammit! There's an ESB reveal thread for you here S_Matt.
^ Sorry but I can't agree with any of this. Are you telling me that after Star Wars and Empire (the merchandising especially) that George didn't have enough MONEY to make more wookiee costumes and find tall people? To conform to his ORIGINAL VISION? Bleh. He paid some mega-fine just so he could put the credits at the end didn't he? And being too strong for stormtroopers would have made it seem a hell of a lot more plausible than it was.
*edit* I know his reasoning was that he had established Chewie as a more advanced creature, and that he wanted the ewoks to be primitive, but that is a lame excuse.

You had your chance... glavin.
Wookies tearing peoples arms out of their sockets, some pacing changes, dealing with what you can from Bingowings' post about things that don't make sense - it might have been a worthier successor to Empire. I thought it was oh-so-clever of George when I was young. Wookie -> Ewo(o)k. "Instead of making them tall with long fur, I made them short with short fur". Genius :(
A: Painted white cow brown
Q: Orange Whip?
Well... actually if Chewtobacca wants to weigh in one more time about why he finds it increasingly hard to stomach the reveal, my curiosity is piqued. I think the reveal may have just become somewhat cliched in and of itself. How many times have you seen it referenced or lampooned in one media or another...
AND THEN BACK TO JEDI!
An appropriate response, I thought. LOL

I agree, for Star Wars fans. But CO is relating real experiences of those regular cinema-goers he was talking about. And this thread is about Return of the Jedi :)

It is extremely difficult to imagine that there are some who dislike Empire, one of the finest science fiction films ever made.
As for disputing the plausibility of Vader being Luke's father... SERIOUSLY?
I have been wondering about this. I didn't know that it was never planned by George and I don't see why it matters. And I especially don't see how people who saw it at the cinema, after loving Star Wars; a fantasy movie - can have a problem with it. Especially if they were having no problem with it up to there.
The only thing I can think of to justify that attitude would be if they had access to George's intentions ahead of time (I don't know if that was or wasn't possible with whatever material was available to the public at the time).

I kinda just got here. How do I know you guys haven't seen all these pics before?? *goes paranoid* Am I posting too many in a row? Does everyone hate me? I don't even remember seeing Star Wars in '78, I was only four! *now sobbing* All I want is my goddam motherfucking trilogy GEORGE!

Online it became pretty fashionable to hate Jedi in the wake of The Phantom Menace because certain sections of fandom felt they needed to appear nonchalant about the negative reception of that film, as a way to say "we saw this coming" sort of thing.
SMatt, there has always been a level of hatred towards Jedi from people that were older then me.
I was 10 years old when I saw Jedi, and all of my friends and myself loved it at the time (We were all born from 1971-73). Most of my older brothers friends (Born around 1965-66) thought it was a joke then, the same way many fans who grew up with the OT thought Episode I was a joke.
And you would be suprised that many people older then me think ESB isn't that great either. My brothers friends who are in their mid 40's just love The Original Star Wars (as they saw it when they were around 13 years old in 1977. They LOVE the original and think the sequels are a bit much, as many of them joke with me, "Darth Vader is Lukes father??? That's a bit too much"
It is all at what age did you see the movies? Star Wars '77 is universally loved by everyone I know, and then the ESB and Jedi vary among what age you are. And as I said, I have yet to meet a person who loves the PT, but I do have friends who accept it and enjoy with a grain of salt simply because its more SW.
Don't go by what is said on the internet, because they are the extreme fans on both sides who think WAY too much about the movies.Including myself :)
This is the kind of post I was after. What would be even better would be if some of those people you describe posted and described their experience as well.
*edit* Also, I can't believe that nobody has commented on the fact that I thought Wicket was a dog.
Makes sense.
No way, BobFortuna is way better, you shameless self-promoter.
Erm... again, my apologies for going OT in the OT OT, OP!
*edit* I read your script though, nice.
