Since I’m bored, I’m gonna list all the movies I still own only on VHS:

  • Bad Boys (1983)
  • Behind the Sun (2001)
  • Blood and Concrete (1991)
  • Bringing out the Dead (1999)
  • Conan the Destroyer (1984)
  • The Dark Angel (1987)
  • The Frighteners (1996)
  • The Hitcher (1986)
  • The Limey (1999)
  • Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn (1983)
  • Mystery Date (1991)
  • Nick of Time (1995)
  • Sleeping with the Enemy (1991)
  • Star Wars (1977)

I of course plan on replacing them all with BD/DVD copies eventually (It’ll be next to impossible for me to get a copy of The Dark Angel, though, since it hasn’t been given a Region 1 release.).

You may also have trouble with Star Wars (1977), unless you want a crappy LaserDisc transfer.

RESTORATION FOR DUMMIES

I have trouble believing _^..^_ is being at all serious.

Yeah, I didn’t know what to make of it. Even most dummies could do better than this if motivated. Except for the occasional reference to modern technology, it seems more like “Restoration for Grandparents and People Trapped in the 1980s”.

I would have thought it farce if I wasn’t familiar with Kilroy’s posting history. (No offence Andrea, I can’t help but think of “Kilroy was here” when I see your user name). Either he has a very sly sense of humour that has rarely surfaced, or he really wants noobs to stop asking for help.

Making movies is always a strange process, and those involved doesn’t always see that a scene is going to be out of step with the tone/pace of the rest of the film. And George does have a quirky sense of humor. Maybe there were supposed to be civilian contractors aboard? (Which is another can of worms.) Chewie doesn’t even hide his gun.

I want Frink to put that in his next edit. 😃

I want to see Frink Dub over Chewie with that Cockney accent.

Too late. He already dubbed him with [REDACTED] for ROTR. 😉

Jeez, no spoiler alert Wook? Some of us are just waiting (im)patiently for ROTR’s release to find out these stuffs.

Dreamt that I was in a burgeoning yet troubled romance with Jennifer Lawrence.

For reasons that are unknown to me, Ms. Lawrence decided to leave her life as a successful and wealthy actress and move in with me and my family. Though we had lots of chemistry – we did lots of smooching and cuddling and talking – having to suffer the overbearing crassness and ignorance of my father and sister was placing undue stress on her; she was all but ready to move out. This frightened me, 'cause if she left, I would be unable to go with her and would lose her forever. The dream then came to an abrupt end with my father telling me to harvest two cucumbers, one of which had been partially devoured and covered in yellow jackets.

Though it was bittersweet and went unresolved, this was one of the best dreams I’ve had in a while.

I skimmed the first line of this and thought you were bludgeoning Jennifer Lawrence.

Black Mirror

Up to episode 3 of series 3 and still undecided about this anthology. It is well made, thought provoking, and for the most part entertaining; but I am rarely satisfied with the conclusions. I guess that may be deliberate in some cases, but others seem like ideas only partly fleshed out. Then again it could just be me, programmed by Hollywood to expect a happy ending or a story that goes full circle.

Westworld

Currently the best series on TV IMO.

I don’t visit this thread too much, but again my best wishes go out to everyone suffering at the moment. Good to hear you are taking positive steps Possessed & Mike, hang in there. Sorry to hear about your uncle, general. Please try to find someone IRL who will listen and help with your current state of mind, even if it is just a trained and caring voice on a hotline.

Some of my favourite actors are Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. They should put those two in more movies.

Yes, together. Simon Pegg is doing too many roles on his own and I’m missing the back-and-forth he does so well with Nick Frost. After I finish listening to the XFM shows with Gervais/Merchant/Pilkington I’m definitely going to track down Pegg and Frost’s radio stuff.

Hmm… might have to give Jessica another chance. I bailed after a couple of episodes because not much super stuff was happening, and it felt like it was trying too hard to be “edgy” or something. But I loved Daredevil and Luke Cage was definitely decent; I didn’t like it as much as DD, but it kept me coming back for the next episode. I guess part of it was that I had no prior knowledge of JJ and thus no connection with the character.

That “obituary” is misleading and semi-fictional. The reef is in bad shape to be sure, but it is not completely dead by any means. The majority of bleaching occurred at the far north end and surveys indicate that about 22% of the coral is dead. Many scientists have said that it may be too late to save the reef, but it has certainly not been “pronounced dead”.

well if about 22% of the coral is dead, that logically means 78% of the coral is still alive. Look at it that way.

Still alive yes, but only about 7% managed to escape the mass bleaching event completely unscathed:

The reef is in serious trouble, but pronouncing it dead might do more harm than good if it leads people to believe it can’t be saved anyways, so why bother to try.

Very true. It may also seriously harm the tourism industry in northern Queensland. The Great Barrier Reef accounts for billions of dollars in tourism revenue and some 70,000 jobs. Major tourist spots in Cairns, Townsville and to the south of this area are relatively unaffected at this point and still have beautiful coral reefs with a biodiversity that is unequalled.

The fact that Queensland has this year approved what will be the country’s largest coal mine is certainly not going to do much for the reef or the rest of the environment, but unfortunately it is partly opponents of this mine that have led to the health of the reef being exaggerated.

It was completely the other drivers fault so I’ll be getting a New car out of it. Unfortunately it was an 03 Pontiac grand am. It was in excellent condition and ran perfectly, but monetarily it wasn’t worth as much as it was practically worth to me so whatever new car I get probably won’t be as good. Loved that car was in perfect condition. Recently made a 1500 mile trip that cost less than $100 USD in it in gas.

Maybe Joe’s grand am is still for sale. But I doubt it.
