Is there a link that you can post for us, as to the "35mm Forum"?

Google is a great tool......

I hope this helps some.

Thanks...I know how to use Google very well, but I thought that the forum was somehow related to this site in some way.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

I agree with you You_Too, it would be a lot of work to rotoscope the sabers to look theater correct...maybe not so much for the Luke and Ben scene perhaps, but the Vader and Ben scene, would be a massive untertaking. It could be done, but does Harmy (or anyone else) really want to put that much work into those selected scenes?

Perhaps team -1 will indeed be able to expose the true theater look of all of the saber scenes, only a bit more time will tell...we can only hope so!

You mentioned the SE lightsabers, what did they look like? Where those the ones that were incorrectly colored?

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)
Time

Hi All,

Say, recently I was giving Harmy's Despecialized Version 2.0 another look, and I saw something that just didn't sit right with me. While looking at the scene where Luke first handles his Fathers light saber, the glow seemed... too bright, for lack of a better word. It just seemed to have too much white glow?, and outside that, the blue coloring seemed to radiate too far outside of the white as well.

Also, during the saber scene/dual between Vader and Ben, Ben's saber also seemed to have the same overly white glow/brightness. So unless my memory is terribly off from what I saw in the theaters in '77, these light sabers seem to be off from what they should look like...with all do respect to Harmy.

Now I know previously that Harmy wanted these type of "problems/errors" or whatever you want to call them, be reported to him in a PM, which I did, and he gave me his permission to post this to the the forum. I'd like to know what you other forum members think. Am I "all wrong" in this? Or what is your opinions?

I am attaching numerous captures here, with proper headings, to describe what I am talking about.

I know the quality of all the pictures aren't the best, and that's because of my, somewhat poor editing, but trust me, what you are seeing in the pictures (minus the graininess and so forth) is there.

Vader's light saber has the proper glow, according to what I saw, and remember from 1977, that's depicting in Harmy's Despecialized captures, but both Luke and Ben's light sabers seem to be quite a bit off in the Despecialized pictures. But the Blu ray pictures have too much, and too wide of a color-glow on both Ben's and Vader's light sabers that isn't correct either.

So, what can Harmy do with these? Is it too late to do anything? Do you folks agree or disagree with me?  What are other peoples opinions on this?

Nearly all of the rest of this project that Harmy has worked so hard on is great!...better than proffessionals, being paid big bucks, but I feel that the light sabers are a VERY important part of this story, and that they should look as good as they did in the theaters in 1977!

Captures of:

Harmy's Despecialized Capture #1...Luke's saber looks too bright here.

Theatrical Capture...Luke's saber looks like how I remember it, from the theater I saw it, in 1977.

Despecialized Capture #2...Vader's saber looks proper, to my memory, but Ben's is too bright here.

Blu ray Capture #1...neither saber looks proper here.

Despecialized Capture #3...Again, Vader's saber is correct, but Ben's is too bright.

Blu ray Capture #2...neither saber looks correct her.

So what do you'all think? I know I'm getting a bit old now a days, but maybe, just maybe...well, let's hear what you'all have to say!

And may all of you have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Best to you and yours!

Well, I guess I should introduce myself, seeings I am somewhat new to this whole Star Wars preservation thing.

I am an old Star Wars fan from 1977. I saw the movie in a theater in Grand Rapids, MI in June/July of 1977 and immediately loved it. I am also one of those guys who remembers certain aspects of the film, but not everything...like Luke throwing the grappling hook twice.

There are certain things in 'other preservations' that I don't believe are 'correct' and I'd like to be able to offer my theatrical knowledge, to help this project create the proper look that the movie had in the theaters in the summer of '77.

I'm hoping to be able to join in with the discussion here pretty soon, so I can give my input and or advice.

Best to you all,

dlvh

Hey fellows,

I know this may be premature, but seeings Disney now owns Lucasfilms (Star Wars), are project like this one (and others) going to be stopped by the Disney lawyers? In other words, does this site have limited days?

Is there now a need to speed-up projects such as these, without sacrificing quality? I hope not, but I'd hate to lose these projects you'all worked so hard on.

From,

A concerned citizen

I personally want to thank negative1 for inviting us all over to his place for the Premiere of this project!!

Please do let us know, when and where to show up negative1! I do presume that you are going to show this on a very big screen, with wondererful sound?

What food and drink do you want us to bring for the Pre-Movie party? Please do let us know!

I guess no matter what the reason is, I must say that I certainly don't recall seeing this in the original release in 1977.

The compilation of film reels/prints and so forth, that Harmy has gathered to gether and for the most part, color correct, or whatever he has done, is by far the best representation of Star Wars the movie out there... bar none, thanks to his (and some others) hard and diligant work. This project makes GL look like somewhat of an incompetant buffoon, IMHO.

I may not 100% agree with all the color/tints/brightness settings etc, that Harmy has put into this project, but I certainly envy his talent and sticktoitiveness throughout this whole procedure. We all have added our two cents to nearly every aspect of the project, and Harmy has taken nearly all of it in-stride, and has valued nearly everyones input...even mine.

Thank you again Harmy for putting up with me/us! Your Star Wars Despecialized, both version 1 & 2 are invalueable!

Actually my screengrab was right off the printscreen. I didn't adjust it at all. My monitor settings are set at default actually. It appears exactly as your screengrabs color and brightness wise. Just smaller/

I'm wondering if what we're seeing is the middle part of that scene actually being shot on a different day because it looks less saturated and the sky is actually more white than blue. Look at 29:29, 30:11 and 32:00. There seems a stark contrast in color and saturation with the 30:11 timecode being more white than blue compared to the other two timecodes. Excuse the sloppy pasting job...

That may very well be, that those scenes were shot on different days. Mark Hamil is lying differently when Alec comes over to him to help him up. Good eye!
