Though, like he said, there are some aspects of the top version that I kinda like.
I'm with Harmy on this also, but it is the best the scene can probably look. That is more than enough for me lol.
I'll probably wait for it on the spleen
Just click "Stanout" or whatever lol
My only complaint with physical media is the storing. I already need another bookcase to store all my Blu Rays. I recently parted ways with my DVD collection (besides Star Wars) to make more room for Blu Ray. They love suckers like me because any time a new format comes out I invest in it. I am very happy for the most part with Blu Ray quality, you can definitely tell between a well done transfer and a poorer quality transfer. For the most part the older films known look fantastic! One that comes to mind, Blazing Saddles. You just can't compare that to any DVD release
Well I'm 29, but I love film restoration when done right, that means preserving the film as it is, grain and all. So many blu rays have been scrubbed clean of all grain because people don't know any better. They prefer the fake waxy look. I definitely don't. I won't buy a movie if it has excessive DVNR and edge enhancement. The star wars blu rays aren't guilty of this, it's just all the needless changes and the horrible color timing that makes them undesirable to watch.
Tape was in great shape! I tried converting to DVD but it's too jerky in some spots. That's what happens when you have crap equipment lol. I can fire up the old VCR every now and then when I get the itch to watch!
That definitely looks 100% better! Nice one Harmy!

There are still some colour issues, especially the trash compactor scene, which I'm struggling with quite a bit but I'm hoping to still get it fixed (especially the first part before it switches to 3P0, which looks like ass).
What do you attribute being the cause for the weird color of the trash compactor scene? What source is that from? The Blu Ray I'm assuming? For me it's so damn hard to see anything on the Blu Ray because everything is so dark.
I thought the vader and Obi wan duel looked particularly awesome!
Sweet!! Downloading now! I've been craving another reel!
Very very cool!
Looking forward to tranfering the copy I recenlty purchased. Hope it's held up well!
I can't wait to watch it, hoping it's in good shape for a 30 year old tape. I don't have high expectations though. If anything it will look cool on my shelf haha
On the way to me now, I’ve actually been looking for a physical copy of this for awhile but most of the prices were outrageous. I should have it early next week and hoping that the tape is in decent shape.
If it’s in good shape I may try my hands at a transfer, I know there are others currently available now as well. Just excited to finally have a physical copy.
I highly doubt Lucas is at all concerned with this, I'm sure he doesn't just sit around and cruise forums all day looking for people doing restorations.
The technical aspects of this stuff go so far over my head, all the script info and what not. I'm just very excited that these are being released on Blu Ray format.... I can imagine how much time and energy goes into getting all these done and it is very much appreciated. I'll have a really nice set of coasters also with my official releases!
One of the things that chaps my ass the most in Star Wars (A New Hope)....that scene at the moisture farm with ghost Luke image. It sticks out every time I see it. Showed a friend of mine the Blu Ray releases as he had never seen them yet. It makes me cringe!!
All these film restore experts and no one at Lucasfilm caught that?? TERRIBLE!!!!!!
I love stuff like this! I'm in!
Ah crap, I'll check tonight man. If I'm not seeding I will jump back on this evening.
As much as I want to upgrade that old tv in my bedroom I haven't because some of the preservations really look decent! Prime example is that 5 star set! I just recently downloaded the G'kar versions but I'm waiting on my region free DVD player to arrive. It will actually convert the PAL signal so it will display properly on a NTSC TV. Looking forward to checking them out!

Please, Harmy, could you fix this?
GOUT:
2004 and beyond:
R2 does seem to lose color here, I never noticed it before
I'm definitely glad I happened on this site though. I'd be watching my sorry 4x3 letterboxed DVDs. At least I can still enjoy the original trilogy in decent quality now. When you compare the efforts of the fans to that of Lucasfilm regarding the original movies, it's ridiculous and sad. I highly doubt we will ever see anything official from Lucasfilm, even after George has passed on.
Option 1 with option 2 as a bonus feature
