Installed my LG blu ray burner last night only to realize its complete shit and won't read any blank media. Go go AVCHD until I can get another brand! Beware LG crap guys! I shoulda known lol

Nothing wrong with LG burners just get a replacement. If it won't read blank media that doesn't mean all LG burners are shit, it just means that the particular one you have is shit. You have a warranty, send it back.

Didn't want to take the chance so went with a Sony :/

Got my AVCHD done and it looks amazing. Left out most of the audio options just for personal preference. All I need is Hairy Hen's, the 2 channel and mono 77' audio. I can't notice any shift in video quality from the MKV on my 720p TV.

EDIT: For those wanting to do the same. I used a program called AVCHDcoder (a quick google search can yield the download link). Load the MKV file into the program, select which audio streams you want to use, select the output size (I chose Dual Layer), select the output folder and let it do its thing. Mine took around 7 hours to finish but the results are very nice and can be burned to dual layer dvd.

Wow, this is truly amazing work!

I have a question about burning this to a Blu-ray.  Can I just burn the MKV file  to a BD-R or do I need to use this txMuxer application to convert it to a proper BD file structure?  I'm pretty sure my BD players can play MKVs.

You may check online to see if you Blu Ray player is capable of MKV playback.  I know my Sony units don't.
