Info Wanted: Superbit?

When comparing the Star Wars Episode I DD DVD (at 448kbps) to the DD on the LD (at 384kbps) it is no contest. The LD is far more agressive of a mix and faithfully represents the theatrical viewing experience that I had. The DVD sounds "dumbed down" so to speak.

I have not compared the DD to the DTS on the R2 Jurassic park superbit. I know that the DTS is only at a rate of 754kbps and does not use the full 1509kbps as some early DTS DVD's did. DTS laserdisc for reference used a bitrate of 1235kbps. I remeber that when the R1 Jurassic park came out, the DTS DVD was very very weak and was easily bested by the DD DVD. It was found that an encoding error occured on the DTS DVD and cut it's LFE channel by 4db. A repressed DTS DVD was made available that was said to be created from the DTS laserdisc master and it shows. I believe that the Jurassic park superbit DTS is this same mix as it sounds very similar to the DTS DVD.

I must've had the repressed DTS version then because it sounded amazing. Someone stole the disc out of my disc wallet though.

I wonder if it's an increased dynamic range that makes the LD sound so good?

Laserdiscs aren't compressed AT ALL. That's what makes them sound great.

BLADE RUNNER: The Unauthorized OFF-WORLD Box Set (Released)

Moth3r,

I noticed the issue with my release but thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. No, it's not an NTSC issue because the version I made with TMPGENC is fantastic and doesn't have the same flaws.

it was a flaw with HDTV2DVD. In fact, I sent all my info to it's creator and I won't be using it any more because of it.

And in regards to your smart-ass comment, there's a BIG difference between something that is overall crap and what I released. 98% of the people who downloaded my version of BR didn't notice a problem.

As per Rikter above, my version wouldn't fit any more audio tracks than just one. This is pure audio/video quality.

You used HDTV2DVD didn't you? what kind of output does it give? I used a few different programs to extract the audio & video, do the pulldown removal and then a 3-pass CCE encode from a huffyuv avi. 4600kbps avg with two 384kbps DD 5.1 tracks.

No he didn't. That's the program that gave my V1 the problems it had.

Rikter,

Guess you don't want my new version??

- I had planned on possibly using you're new version, but there were no updates and I'm dying to get this project over with so I can move on to my Datsuns!!!!! AND I still may use it if I can get a copy to evaluate and be sure that it would have room for 1 PCM track and about 5 other DD or MPEG 2.0 audio tracks

What's with the sample you put up?

- Well it is a sample of my 1080i to DL DVD, sized to allow for all of the audio tracks I plan on using I posted some details on myspleen but I just moved my parts car today so I'm beat down for the night otherwise I would repost the info here...

AND on that note is your new version done and ready???

My version has BEEN done. It takes up both layers (pretty much) completely.

I just bought the original U.S.A video Making of Superman I and II BETA cassette from a video store that was going out of business. $1.95 cents. It's still got the original release box. The BETA tape has both the Making of's on it and has red lettering. I however do not have a Betamax machine but I couldn't pass an original up that cost only a couple bucks.

This is the original U.S.A Video

I wonder if it is better quility than the transfers we have out there.

Anyone have a BETAmax and can they transfer.

You never know, I have looked at the tape and it looks hardly used... very interesting....

Any takers??

That was the master used for mine.

I know i'm probalbly absolutely in the minority here, but I have always prefered films in stereophonic sound to dolby 5.1, especially if that is how they were filmed or recorded, rather than artificially created after the fact 30 years later. Although 5.1 and 6.1 and 7.1 are viable now, and create better spacialization stereo tracks should be included on releases, (also known as dolby 2.0) or better yet Pcm Stereo uncompressed!

I'm going to spell this out very easily for you. The 5.1 track on the Raiders DVD was derived from the original 6 track mix. Nothing was added or taken away. The mix was done at Paramount and not Lucasfilm. Had Lucasfilm been involved, I'm sure new elements would have creeped in, but as it is, the DVD IS the original mix. And the original Dolby Stereo track was derived as well from the 6 track master. This isn't a case like Star Wars where multiple mixes were made.

The digital PCM track on the widescreen laser disc is wrong! It has at least one sound effect that is different from the original film and the analog sound on the original LD is pretty fuzzy sounding. Neither are worth preserving.

Has this made it onto one of your releases? Also, I have a bonus 5th disc that looks very much like it is a 10 minute edit of The Making of Raiders. Are these two different things? I know you've discussed this here before, but I didn't see anything at first glance in the "featurette" that isn't in the Making of.

They're the same thing. They're on one of my Raiders discs. There's a ton of stuff that isn't in the Making of.

Too bad there isn't and won't be a release of the first cut of SIV... and so far the "best" set I've seen is this pirate crap sold by a certain twat at a certain place (obviously removed):
