Well, all the Star Wars films were released on DVD, so I fully expect the extras to be re-used and some new ones added.  I hope you are right, but I would not assume anything.

I'm well aware of that.  However, these are NEW extras being created specifically for the blu-ray release.  There's a difference.

You are braver than I am if you take that bet!  In my experience, Blu-ray extras are rarely in 1080p - theatrical trailers sometimes are if you are lucky, but more often than not they are in SD.

That's typically for films that were originally released on DVD.  They just re-use the extras.

I would assume this will be something different.

Yes; but deleted scenes are frequently released in the most appalling quality.  I have seen many that are so bad that -- even as someone who is always interested in seeing little moments, good or bad, in a film's development  -- they have been painful to watch.   Adywan is right.  There needs to be some form of minimal studio restoration if they are to stand any chance of being used in any form of fan-edit beyond one of Jambe's Davdar's excellent making-of documentaries.  If they are released in relatively good quality non-anamorphic widescreen with half-decent stereo audio, I will be pleasantly surprised...

I'd pretty much bet on them being 1080p.  This set is being made for blu-ray and that's the way everything is going to be mastered (aside from older documentaries, if included).

Yeah. I call bullshit on most of this scene.  It just doesn't make sense.

The only "old" footage in it seems to be vader walking through the hallway and entering the elevator.

Wasn't there a scene where he was supposed to go see the emporer (besides the one where he chokes the guards)?  It could have easily been taken from that.

Sorry but I just don't believe anything Lucas tells us anymore.

So you don't believe Mark Hamill himself in that clip that Adywan posted then? He mentions he had vague memories of doing that scene, but wasn't sure until he saw it again and it all came back to him!

What clip did Adywan post?  I didn't see it.

However, don't think that if Luca$ tells mark to sit up and beg that he won't do it.  Perhaps I'm too jaded but I just don't believe Lucas anymore.  He's screwed us over far too many times.

Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!)

I know the music was scored in '82 - I'm saying it's nice to be able to hear it now WITH the scene in question :)

And that dialogue is not re-used - it's all 'new' though certainly sounds familiar on a cursory listen.

Nope. I listened to it 3 times.

The first 2 "luke's" are looped/exactly the same.

And the rest is re-used.

According to this link:http://www.starwarsholidayspecial.com/swcs/main.html,

...it would seem that I was right.  Probably very little of this footage is actually old.

Right - so we have to wait until next year to get these on blu-ray, and an undetermined amount of time after that (if ever... the wording seemed ambiguous to me) to see the originals on blu - Gee George you're all heart!

He could afford to have the originals preserved easily - heck Mr Robert Harris said he'd preserve the films for a bargain price (or something like that - cannot remember the exact quote!).

What makes me SICK with Lucas is he releases the SE's first, and yet is obviously peppering them with deleted scenes from the originals just to get original fans who HAVE to have this stuff, to buy again. That cut scene with Luke is awsome - love how he looks like the emperor. Very ominous and a great intro. Nice to finally see how the soundtrack fits into the scene too. Instead of all the CGI crap and revisions he's made to the films he could have inserted footage like that instead. Imagine the joy film fans would feel knowing that footage (and more) was on a blu-ray via seemless branching featuring the original theatrical versions! Would really make it a special release.

He's the ultimate stubborn skin-flint - releasing both versions together could have been achieved with ease. But noooo he has to use the old money excuse again. The fact he is one of the richest filmmakers around and knows people that would restore these films for free means nothing evidently.

ARGHHHHHHHH!

Though seeing these cut scenes will undoubtedly be cool - and I will hire this out - the madness ends here. No purchase from me until the originals are given the treatment they deserve.....

Actually, as awesome as the footage seems:

a) it sounds like all the vader dialogue is re-used from other scenes

b) he says "luuuuuuuuuuuuuuke" far too many times

c) the scene of him in his chamber looks mashed together

d) it almost makes me wonder if that's mark under the cloak.  Have to wait and see.

The music fits because it was originally scored by JW in 1982.

Replacing 2.0 tracks with a 5.1?
Time

So I've been recording some HD movies on Cinemax and HBO and, for some reason, they're broadcast with 2.0 tracks instead of 5.1.   I'd like to sync up the 5.1 ac3 (or DTS) track from the DVD with the HD video.  What's the easiest way to go about making sure my sync is 100% accurate?  Unfortunately, there's no audio program (that I know of) that will allow me to match up multiple audio tracks like that and export without re-encoding.

Thoughts?

Free "farewell" Screening of 1977 Star Wars collector's print (British I.B. Technicolor)
Time

I wouldn't be surprised if they held off on indy this year.   Blu-ray is pretty overrun with high profile boxed set releases for the end of this year.  There's only so much money to go around for some people.

We're already looking at (rumored or announced): The Alien Quadrilogy, Lethal Weapon Quad, Jurassic Park trilogy, Back To the Future trilogy, Robocop Trilogy.

And that's just off the top of my head...

I could see them pushing Indy to 2011 and Star Wars to 2012 but who the hell knows.

Y'know, 2012 would make more sense as a release date for the bd at this point. Indy was rumored to be hitting the format this year and .... still no announcement. A lot of big catalog titles are hitting this year, but not all of them (for example, still no word on Lawrence of Arabia). 2011 is Raiders' 30th and '12 is Star Wars 35th. If they actually end up remastering the OOT, we'd get it just in time for the mayan apocalypse.

Indy isn't supposed to be coming until Nov/Dec and the rest of the year DEFINITELY hasn't been announced yet.  I'd expect an announcement in the next 2 months for them.

Help Wanted: 'The Wheeler Dealers' (1963) - Need capper for TCM...

I've extracted CC from TS streams just fine with CCExtractor GUI.

It's still embedded in the video the same way as standard def video.  The process isn't very difficult.

But how were those TS streams capped?  The Hauppauge re-encodes. This isn't capturing the original stream (which is encoded and impossible).

While I was bootlegging the 30th anniversary ESB presentation in Time Square, a random passerby-er let me know that most of the theaters in NYC have gone digital and all the projectionists are being let go, since you can higher a kid in high school to run the new digital projection systems at vastly reduced prices.

What does this mean.  What were you bootlegging?!?

Help Wanted: Need capper for HDNET movies!
Time

Hi all,

Time Warner Cable here doesn’t have HDNET movies and there are a couple of movies that I’m trying to get capped in HD.  I have the Hauppauge so I’m fine with AVC caps but if you have the channel unencrypted, that’d be hot!

Please let me know.  I have about 150 hd channels so if you’d like me to cap something for you, i’d be happy to do it.
