Info Wanted: HD Documentary Preservations?
Time

Has anyone preserved a lot of the documentaries that are out there in HD?  Is there a list of them?

Off the top of my head, I can think of:

ILM

Star Wars Tech

Star Wars The Legacy Revealed

“Science of Star Wars: Space Cowboys”

“Science of Star Wars: War, Weaponry and the Force”

“Science of Star Wars: Man and Machine”

Wishful Drinking (not technically a documentary but…)

(Also, on the subject of using TV broadcasts to predict possible future blu-rays, Raiders is on USA this week, if anyone is curious to see if that new CGI cliff is still in there.)

I've seen Raiders twice now on TV recently, and both times I'd swear that cliff scene looks different (and I liked the original vfx). I don't recall it ever being mentioned as a change in the film, other than the boulder poles, snake reflection, truck pole that were digitally removed. Damn. More LFL meddling...

That's because it's new.  That's a new change for the HD version.

I can't believe people are judging a future (a year off still?!) bluray release on some screen caps from a documentary! There's every chance they - the makers of the documentary - grabbed what was available AT THE TIME when making it. Wouldn't surprise me if Lucasfilm are going through the films in order, or at least prequals first as they'd need less work than the originals in terms of bringing them to bluray. They're probably working on the originals now which is why they had to use the current transfers in that documentary.

It's not over till it's over, and a lot can happen in a year.......!

To pronounce you know what the new bluray transfers will look like from watching a documentary is pretty far-fetched IMHO and more than a little reactionary!

 Awww...how idealistic of you.

If you don't think the films from this set are done at this point, you're kidding yourself.

I'm recording it in HD.

Hi Digitalfreaknyc,

Is this something you're planning to preserve?

DVD-BOY

Of course.  That's why I'm recording it.

I have no idea how many people are able to burn blu-ray's though.

Did you ever release True Lies?

No.  I've been burning so many blu-ray's lately that I never released.  Something 20gigs's is going to take a couple of weeks for me to seed.  That's a lot of dedictation.

Just to confuse things, if you will, AG is now coming to Blu-ray. ;)

Oh goodie, another blu ray i can boycott for not being the theatrical version of the film free of cgi, digital edits and a new color timing.

It will probably be a new DTS mix too.  Screw Lucash, thanks to him i have to hold onto laserdisc to watch the real versions of the star wars trilogy, the real versions of graffiti and thx.

I doubt it's going to be a new mix.  Might be encoded in DTS...but probably not a new mix.

I'm currently making a blu-ray of the HD version with all extras.

I sent you a PM a while ago on an update to this and got no reply, is it pretty safe to assume this is not going to happen?

Does anyone have links to the HD broadcast version of this, would like to make my own if there are still live links.

Not enough room on one disc for the extras and the D-Theater version.

I just did something VERY basic for the extras DVD.

The prospect of torrenting 30 gigs kinda makes me want to puke.

The D-Theater version on tehparadox is 7.5gb in size; I don't know what compressing it to 6.4gb would do (being that it seems that most 720p MKVs are around 4.5gb in size), but how much space do the extras take up?

Even so, anyone know how to at least create blu-rays with said MKVs and at least create menu and chapter titles?

That's not the one I have.  Mine is almost 24gb's.  That must be 720p or it's a really crappy version.
