The Godfather Saga - HD Restoration (Released)

I believe i downloaded this version a few weeks ago from a torrent site, since it has the same menus and bonus features. I was wondering what kind of blu ray player and TV people are viewing this on. It plays flawlessly on my PC, but after burning the first disc to BD-R and playing it on my TV, it judders like crazy. Even the slightest movements have a noticeable frame interlacing issue, and when there is a panning shot, it looks like a 10.0 earthquake, double and triple vision of objects on the screen. I have been trying to understand why this happens with this disc and nothing else that I've ever viewed on it, including blu ray movies, and TV. It's a Vizio LCD with 240hz refresh, and should be able to display this just fine theoretically.

I'm just trying to figure out why it looks like a nightmare on my TV, and literally hurts the eyes to look the interlacing issue for too long. This isn't a complaint about your work, it's obviously has something to do with my TV, like I said, it is perfectly smooth on my PC. But it makes no sense, I've never seen anything quite like it before, not even close, with anything else I've ever viewed on it. I've tried different "smooth motion" settings on the TV and it made no difference.

Wish I could help you but I have no idea. I record everything the same way, with my Hauppauge. :(

Info: Jaws - PCM mono track

I complained about this in blu-ray.com when the blu-ray came out and several people commented that the DTS 768 equals the PCM. I didn't understand why but they explained it.

48kHz = 48,000 samples per second.

Each sample is 16 bits, therefore mono PCM is 1 x 16 x 48,000 = 768,000 bits per second = 768kbps.

However, the specs above say that it is encoded as dual mono (same track in left and right channels) and uses 24 bit samples. Uncompressed this would be 2 x 24 x 48000 = 2304kbps, so 768kbps represents a track that has been compressed to a third of its original size.

Right...but if you do the same math with 1 of the tracks (since they're both the same), would it matter? There is no such thing as "dual mono." That just seems to be how they encode things on blu-ray's.

How to archive Betacam SP tapes?
Time

Moth3r said:

No, although the tapes look similar Betacam SP and Betamax are completely different formats.

I would look into getting a Betacam SP tape deck off eBay, and a capture card that can capture an analogue component input.

I'm not worried about the capture card. I capture everything through my hauppauge at this point since I really don't burn DVD's any more.

I'm more concerned about the outputs. Most of the ones I've seen on ebay have XLR outputs for audio and I never saw Component Video outputs...but I could be wrong.

Preserving DTS LaserDisc tracks, specifically Jurassic Park

Thanks again to everyone who helped me and all of us realize this dream. I'm curious to see if Universal uses the original 5.1 or a remix for the upcoming 3D re-release. One thing is for sure: the trailer's 2D image looks to have improved vastly over the Blu-ray video master. With any luck, we'll get a nice, new Blu-ray as well!

I'd assume they'd continue to use the remix. I don't think that they'll make a new encode for the 2D BD video master (to save costs), but they'll probably issue it on a nice 3D BD. If that happens, one would have to extract the 2D image from the 3D BD for a high quality Jurassic Park. I'm just speculating, of course; this is what happened to Beauty and the Beast. Time will tell.

It's been announced today. It will have a separate blu-ray for the 2D edition.

I know this may be slightly "off topic" but does anyone have a special edition DVD from other regions that has these extras?

"Unstoppable Force: The Legacy Of The Terminator" (9:13)
"The Terminator: Closer To The Real Thing" (11:26)

They're apparently on the French, Holland, Scandinavia and UK discs.

They are also on, at least, one German DVD release. I should have them at Home.

If you're able to upload for me, I would really appreciate it.

Time

MrBrown said:

Thanks for the info, I really would like to see a preservation of the complete extended Movie. At least I can watch it at home from LD. But I think DVDs are such more usefull, using at DVD watching evenings at friends homes.

Unfortunately, the massive difference between laserdisc and blu-ray makes this a project for someone else.

DTS soundtracks on laserdisc and not on DVD or BD?

Actually, no. You should change evita.

*** shouldn't be next to it. And there's a problem with the BD, not the LD.

You are right, as *** was put wrongly there; according to this post - and to IMDB (see technical specs) the original soundtrack was Dolby Digital - so I changed the description and added §§§ original soundtrack was not DTS. Maybe the Xmas lunch was a little too heavy to think clearly... (#@@)

Again, IMDB is, many times, wrong. Just because it doesn't say DTS on that doesn't mean that there wasn't a DTS mix. The simple solution is to check the credits at the end of the movie to see if there's a DTS logo, no?
