Not sure why so many folks aren’t understanding Luke’s death. He didn’t wear out from mental exhaustion, he willed himself to the force, just like Obi-Wan, and he said he was going to do it to Kylo beforehand, just like Obi-Wan did to Vader. And clearly he intends to haunt Kylo.
Last I checked, Obi-wan was killed by Vader.
Luke did something we’ve never seen any other Jedi do before. He projected a solid version of himself across unimaginable distances and could interact with Leia and even Threepio. That had to come with a price. In the end, Luke saved the day one last time and went out a hero.
I didn’t get that from the movie at all. If that had been communicated more clearly to the audience it might not have felt so insulting to me.

For a film that hasn’t come out to the general public yet it may have been somewhat of a surprise to see that review with the content included (especially your first line of the spoilers you posted).
It may have been better / a little more considerate to have stated that you have seen film beforehand - then left a fair large blank space between that and the start of your spoilers - to give fellow members a choice.

Luke dying is complete bullshit. It’s not explained. You have no idea it’s coming. And he deserved far more, as a character.

Not enough lightsaber battles. The battle at the end of TFA was easily twice as long as the single one in this movie.

Porgs are not nearly as annoying as you think they’re going to be. They’re pretty irrelevant and, honestly, didn’t need to be in the movie at all…and neither did the women who clean the temple.
The humor. There’s a lot of it. It was far too campy for a SW movie. Luke throwing the lightsaber behind him was funny…but i don’t think it’s going to hold up on multiple watches.
Again, don’t think this movie will hold up like TFA does. That one is very much a rocket-ship. I LOVED the pairings of Finn/Poe, Finn/Rey…etc.
Rose. Dear God…Rose. Go away. No one cares about you. The kiss is awkward and comes out of nowhere.
I’d love to hear about how TFA haters love this one…with lines of dialogue lifted right out of Jedi and Empire.
Why was the Emperor’s theme played during Snoke torturing Rey? Just cuz he was saying almost the same dialogue?
I was going to be extremely pissed if the movie ended with the big Falcon party when Luke just died. Fortunately it didn’t and ended on something far more poignant. However…that’s still sticking with me. Zero emotional weight. Luke deserves FAR, FAR better.
JW reused several pieces of music. I was actually surprised at how much repetition there was.
Phasma dies like a chump. She’s the Darth Maul of this trilogy. Deserved much, much better. Looked VERY cool. Did VERY little.
That’s it for now. I’ll add more if I think of more. I’ll be seeing it again on Thursday and I’ll add my thoughts.
That said, DO NOT expect massive spoilers. There is no “I am your father” moment. There are just some cool “ooh I need to see that” moments. Nothing earth shattering is revealed.

Went tonight to the world premiere of Star Wars. The show is synced to the blu-ray’s. Thankfully, they have the 20th Century Fox logo before them. Unfortunately…it’s the blu-ray’s.

I’m still pissed that Plastic Galaxy was never released on blu-ray.
5.1 AC-3 on LD came out before 94/95 (I found a review of a Pioneer LD player with AC-3 RF output from late in 1995 and the Star Wars SE LD set had AC-3 5.1 audio in 97). It would make sense if the 93 mix involved remixing the surround to be two channel. The resulting Dolby Stereo mix would be downward compatible for 4 channel systems and be compatible with the current 5.1 systems then in theaters. I just finished adjusting the audio levels of the trilogy from the theatrical release to the 93 release and the 93 mix surround didn’t have the same signature that the theatrical and 85 did. There were a lot of subtle differences in the mixes so I may just have been imagining it, but it very well could be the first 5.1 mix of the trilogy. The audio levels seemed a lot closer to the 97 SE - what I was using to set the channel audio levels.
