I guess RLM covered opinions all over the spectrum. Rich loved it, Mike was on the fence, and Jay did not like it. They all gave really good perspectives on where they were coming from.

That is hysterical because I used to have a friend in that band, he was their drummer for a while around 2008 or so. I never saw them play because I was all like “wtf tribute bands suck go make original music”.

There is one tribute band that does NOT suck. “Rain”, a tribute band for the Beatles (there are other good ones as well, but I saw this one). Their shows are immersive and absolutely awesome. Hearing the guitar solo on “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” roar to it’s full power across an auditorium is breath taking.

Meh, I don’t mind a little cynicism.

Dek, I think I was the one who mentioned Badlands. I would highly recommend checking out Days of Heaven as well, which is done by the same director. It left me with similar feelings, where I couldn’t really figure out quite exactly why I enjoyed the movie so much.

Unpopular opinion: Despite his unreasonable 0/10 ranking of Rogue One, I find Mala’s opinions to be interesting and fun to read.

Here is another try at the “Skywalker Lives” ending which finishes on the wide shot of the binary sunset. In my opinion, I like the musical timing of the first version better but like the ending shot of this second version better. I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts.

I would need to digest the Solo soundtrack a lot more but I fondly remember it being a really awesome score! I always was thinking to myself, “I might not be loving this movie, but the score is great!”.

To go back to the discussion on Han’s character arc, if he doesn’t get any closer at all to how we know him in the OT, and he goes through something that resembles nothing like the character we know, then what is the point of the movie? (Kind of what Mala said)

Why not have Han start out optimistic and then give him an arc where he becomes jaded? It’s a much better idea in my opinion. And also there is nothing wrong with Han being jaded at the end of this movie and then staying like that for another decade until A New Hope. That would make more sense since he is very resistant to moving from his opportunistic and cynical view on the world when he meets Luke/Leia.

That is why it’s a low stakes movie. It’s cause at no point did I ever feel invested in someone trying to become Han Solo. I wanted to see a natural arc of him going from optimistic and positive (Han resembles ANH Luke a lot in this movie) to the Han Solo we know and we did not see that. Instead he starts out like Luke in ANH, and ends the same way.

Yep, one kick seems inconsequential, but it helps. Here is a clip of her second kick being removed. You probably won’t even tell that anything is cut. (It’s been apart of my edit for a while now)

Agreed! I like keeping all the weird and unique stuff in TLJ. I wouldn’t even touch the cave sequence.

Mala, I couldn’t find a suitable shot. There is kind of an medium shot of Hux where he makes an odd expression with turning his eyes and it just looks awkward so the above clip is as good as it gets.

I’ll have to post a clip in the morning for what I mean with the ladder kicks. Removing the second kick is completely seamless though and you can’t even tell a difference at first.

Hal, I wanted to give a suggestion in regards to the ladder kicking…

I tried this out and it works perfectly. So she does her first two kicks and then it cuts to an aerial shot of the ship. After her first kick, there is an shot looking up at the remote. If you cut to the aerial shot right from there, and just do a simple crossfade, then it is a seamless cut. And it gets rid of one extra kick which is nice!

If he only has an arc in the next movie then why would you make this one? Like I’m not saying he should have the same arc twice but he has to be well written for the movie to work, right?

Agreed. I’m sorry but I kind of need to see our lead character have a well developed arc for me to be invested in the movie and I felt nothing with this Han in Solo.

CinemaScore is pretty lenient for handing out A’s.

Per the suggestion of many to revisit my removal of Snoke throwing Hux around after the Resistance escapes, here is a new clip which restores one more line of dialogue before we cut back to the Resistance.

I must say that I really like how this flows after getting used to it. I tried including one more shot of Hux at the end but it just didn’t fit.

I think that things are shaping up nicely for fanedit options of episode 8. I kind of see it as Hal’s edit being the conservative cut. It retains the same movie, but polished and trimmed up to make for an overall better experience. Mine is a more radical cut but still retains the same story. And DigiMod’s edit is for those who want to see an entire story restructure.

It is great to see the community band together and create all these options for people to see Episode 8 in an fanedited form.
