It was a pretty solid film overall and had a lot of good ideas but the pacing was so slow at the beginning. If I did an edit, I’d just make it fast paced and more intense

Also, I’d add an opening crawl after the opening scene and remove the title card

How would you decide to transition between the flashback and the present with the title card gone.

Once again, the single greatest track in the entire series. And it lasts less than a minute.

Empirically. I don’t care who get’s mad at that because I do not give a fuck.

“The Immolation Scene” and “The Emperor’s Death” are just below it though.

“Immolation scene” and “Yoda lifts the X-Wing” are easily tied as my favorite Star Wars compositions.

Even if you didn’t care for TFA and Rogue One you can’t deny Episode VIII has a lot of potential…ESB like potential.

  • Rey and Kylo Ren’s training (first time seeing a Dark Sider being trained in a SW film)

  • Finn trying to fit into The Resistance

  • Finn possibly finding out Poe shot his friend

  • Phasma going after Finn

  • Knights of Ren

  • Leia and/or Chewie confronting Kylo Ren

  • Possible learning at least something about Rey’s past or Snoke’s identity

  • The possible power vacuum left after the destruction of the Hosnian System

  • Learning about the ancient Jedi

I would be surprised if the film was anything less than great.

You forgot the obvious - Luke mofucking Skywalker, Jedi master.

I can’t believe I forgot about that…

If Luke can beat Vader’s ass imagine what he can do with 30 years of training.

I like to think that Luke has transcended to an OT-Yoda-like state where he won’t be whipping out his saber to backflip all around.

I would like him to use his saber but I would prefer him to use Makashi like Dooku. I also wouldn’t mind him using Forced Based Physical Augmentation; I think he should just use it sparingly and with less potency than he had in his prime.

Like the badass scene we got of Vader in Rogue One, I really want something like that for Luke. Not him slaughtering soldiers, just him being a absolute badass. I can compeletly imagine him single-handedly taking on the Knights of Ren with rain pouring down on his green blade.

And then I want him to whip Kylo’s ass. I want him to toy with Kylo as Vader once did to him and when he thinks it’s safe or he has the upper hand Luke just gives to his ass. I want there to be a shot of Luke with his hood over his head walking towards a terrified Kylo and the only visible part of Luke’s face is his beard. The rest of the movie could suck but I could take solace in the fact that Luke became that badass.

This sounds AMAZING

Ren isn’t interesting

This is a complaint I haven’t heard very often. May I ask why you feel this way? I find him wanting to fulfill the “wishes” of his Grandfather while being pulled by the Light and possibly lunacy to be extremely compelling. And aside from that like that Kylo is a bit of a smartass and his temper was both frightening and humorous.
There are a few more things I could mention but I think he has a lot going on as a character. Certainly more than Vader in STAR WARS, Maul in TPM and Palpatine in general.

Completely agree with you here on Ren. I absolutely love his character. Everything about him really traces back to his ambition for power and lasting legacy.

It’s a Wonderful Life

Film Score- 10/10

I feel awful that I have not seen such a treasured classic as this but after finishing this movie late into Christmas Eve, I must say that this was just INCREDIBLE! The movie had humor, heart and a protagonist who ya really cared for.

This film might just be one of the most uplifting movies I have ever seen. I will most definetly make this a required viewing of mine every Christmas Eve.

Rogue One has earned the #3 spot on my list, right between ANH and TFA. This movie is making me think about what it would take to remove TESB and ANH from my 1 and 2 spots. The nostalgia factor definitely plays a role.

I’ve been thinking about it also that will anything ever top SW and TESB but I can’t even think a scenario where that could happen.

Same. Disney has given me two good Stat Wars movies but I’m curious if they ever will make one that I like better than SW and ESB. If I had to bet my money on it, I’d say episode 8 has the best chance.

All good ideas for crawls. Here’s one that incorporates several of those ideas:

ROGUE ONE

It is a time of galactic tyranny.
The once venerable democracy
has fallen to a despotic Empire,
which subjugates the star systems
of the defeated Old Republic.

A few brave souls dare to defy
this oppressive regime, and
whisper of forming a strong
REBEL ALLIANCE, now
their only hope against the
relentless Imperial machine.

With the resistance still
fractured and in disarray,
the Empire moves swiftly to
complete its ultimate weapon,
one that will spell destruction
and death across the stars. . . .

I like it! It perhaps has too much fancy vocabulary? LOL 😉

Well, the worst aspects of fan films are usually bad cinematography, editing, vfx, acting, and writing. Rogue One has all of those. What makes it like a fan film is the subject matter, to which I would say who cares.

This ^. It pisses me off when people say it’s a fan film. Rogue One is a VERY well made film. It has some of the best CGI (not including Tarkin and Leia) EVER. It’s cinematography is gorgeous and the actors for the most part perform admirably.

I think I have decided that my favorite crawl is the created by writer/reporter Andrew Shackley:

The Jedi are all but extinct, the Republic has fallen and in their wake, the Galactic Empire has engulfed the far reaches of the galaxy in fear.

Persecuted members of the Old Republic have been thrust into hiding. Only members of the REBEL ALLIANCE dare take a stand against the ruthless Imperial forces.

Deep in the Outer Rim territories, the dastardly Director Krennic has discovered the location of a long lost friend; one capable of completing the Empire’s most powerful weapon yet…

The first paragraph establishes the fall of the jedi, the fall of the Republic and the rule of the Empire. This is what you need for full galactic exposition. Then in the second paragraph it establishes who the Rebels are and how they came about. The last paragraph introduces you to Galen and Krennic while hinting at the superweapon in development. I prefer keeping it a mystery for the movie to take you on.

Hi guys, I’m new to the site. I just edited an opening crawl yesterday, what do you think:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1leS6nxMIzmQl9CZ01xVm5JaXc/view

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away…

ROGUE
ONE

Six years have passed since the
Galactic Empire tightened its grip
on the galaxy. Hope is fading, fear
is everywhere.

Fearing his family’s lives are at
risk, Galen Erso, a science officer
for the Empire, has fled to the
small remote planet of Lah’mu
with the help of Saw Gerrera, a
Rebel extremist.

Desperate for Galen’s valuable
research, Orson Krennic, director
of the dreaded DEATH STAR
project, has recently discovered
Galen’s location and has been
sent to retrieve him…

It’s pretty good. I think that imperial scientist works best as Galen’s description. And it sounds weird that you refer to the birth of the empire as them “tightening their grip”. And the big reason that Galen left is because of what he realized his research was being used for.

What I’m getting from all these crawls is that the first paragraph establishes the tyranny of the Empire since the Jedi have fallen. The second paragraph has varied for everyone. And the third paragraph explains how Krennic is searching for Galen.

In this scene I had to cut together shots of Anakin during the lightning attack and Mace not during the lightning attack, which means the flicker effect that is present in the Anakin shots is missing in the Mace shots. I tried to add it to the Mace shots, does it work?

(Ignore the screwed up audio, I’m not sure what the problem is but it’s not present in the timeline. It’s also not a YouTube problem because it’s present in the output ac3 file, so I’m not sure what the issue is.)

I think it looks fantastic!

You could insert a hyperspace effect and have it end on Jyn waking up in the cell as if it was a dream.

There is scenes of Jyn in a cell on Yavin with her Handcuffs on so it might be that she had her flashback on Yavin Base,

“Can you be trusted without your shackles?”

Basically until someone goes over the re-shoot story we won’t really know how different the original cut was. The Novel has a pretty good synopsis like a crawl too.

"As the shadows of the Empire loom ever larger across the galaxy, so do deeply troubling rumors. The Rebellion has learned of a sinister Imperial plot to bring entire worlds to their knees. Deep in Empire-dominated space, a machine of unimaginable destructive power is nearing completion. A weapon too terrifying to contemplate . . . and a threat that may be too great to overcome. "

I REALLY love your idea for a crawl at the end there. I’m looking forward to us faneditors mulling over what it should be 😃

Stranger Things

Man…that was incredible! I really dug this show 😃

I actually watched it with my mother and she said that it PERFECTLY captured the 80’s feel. The characters were pretty great. Story was interesting. Some of the CGI was hokey but you can’t expect too much from a Netflix show. But on the other hand, it was shot VERY professionally and felt quite cinematic at times. I thought all the characters grew in very fascinating ways along the course of the show. I was able to predict a lot of the story early on but it still was captivating and the last episode was very cathartic. That is the best word to describe the season finale haha

It’s a shame it hasn’t been released on Blu-Ray yet. The second we finished the show I went right on Amazon to purchase the blu-ray set haha

Actually is a pretty decent crawl when it comes to content. Obviously, using Jackpumpkinheads blender template would give a much more professional looking crawl, but with some minor touchups to the first couple sentences and some trimming to the third paragraph, I think this could be a pretty nice crawl. And then if you remove the planet titles, it’s back to the Star Wars we know and love haha.
