Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers **
Time

I must say that Lucasfilm surely did kind of screw up with how late in the game they decided to part with the directors and realize how serious the issues had gotten. But I think they are really bouncing back like no other studio could and the hiring of Ron Howard shows that. He is a calming presence with a great fx-heavy history of films and I think can do a great job of getting the movie to align more with Kasdan’s version of the script.

TLDR: Lucasfilm screwed up but is still a class act with saving these projects, making them great, and moving forward to give us a satisfying result (Rogue One).

Baby Driver (2017)

One of the slickest, best action movies I’ve ever seen.

I keep hearing good things about this movie. Oh what shall I do?

Steps:

  1. Drive to theatre.
  2. Purchase ticket to Baby Driver.
  3. Enjoy one of the slickest, best action movies you will have ever seen.
  4. RINSE AND REPEAT

P.S. Give the soundtrack a listen for good fun too.

I wanted to say that you shouldn’t feel bad at all Adywan about the wampa situation. You obviously have a high standard of quality and I entirely trust whatever you decide is worth pursuing or not. And we will be seeing it soon which is also pretty great 😃

Erasing the Prequels Entirely
Time

I think my favorite would be to use the theatrical crawl for episode 4 to just show it as the original first film; STAR WARS. And the subsequent movies are also apart of the STAR WARS saga but with added subtitles like STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI.

Basically just how it was before the prequels came out, except you remove any reference to an episode number.

Baby Driver

Best film of 2017 so far for me. This was absolutely amazing. The filmmaking here and direction by Edgar Wright is impeccable. The actors all give great performances. The music was used perfectly. And most important of all, I really cared about this main character and how he changed throughout.

Just a great flick overall.

Ady, do you find it hard to watch Star Wars now that you’ve spent so much time analyzing, edition and creating it? I’ve found that, while I still love Star Wars, the extensive editing of the film’s makes me kind of ADHD when it comes to watching them. I can’t seem to just sit there and watch them anymore.

I always have been thinking to ask the same question. It would seem nearly impossible to do so after investing so much time in it.

While it is obvious generalfrevious is very depressed, continuing to respond to his hyperbole only promotes further exaggeration. He is here only for attention. I do believe he needs help, but when we respond, we only strengthen his behaviors. The best bet is to leave him alone unless he wishes to engage in more rational discussion. I’d love to read that he has sought help, but I no longer will engage him until I see some effort on his end.

I dont think ā€œplaying ballā€ is the right term per se. He wasn’t brought in for his take on Han Solo. He was brought in because he is a known quantity to Lucas Film. A friend of the family if you will. He was not brought in to re-imagine or re-tool or rebuild this movie. He was brought in because he is a sane and competent director. Not to say that he doesnt have imagination of his own. But he knows the functional ins and outs of directing producing and can be a steady and calming influence.

Like The Wolf from Pulp Fiction.

I think Lord and Miller are good directors. They are at the height of their popularity and they have a comedic tone that Lucasfilm trusted could be utilized in a toned down fashion. Lord/Miller wanted to stay true to themselves and take the film in a wild new direction. I cant say I blame them. It’s part of their success formula. Kennedy/Kasdan wanted to stay true to Han Solo and didnt want the level of ā€œzaninessā€ they were getting.

Agree with everything above. Just wish they saw these differences earlier in production.

-A Plot to Destroy the Jedi?

I agree there is a repetitive aspect to this scene with the ā€œsituation room during Grievous meeting with Obiā€ scene, but there is also a more layered concern about Palpatine. This scene, placed after the - long - overture was very good to set the mood of an uprising coup d’état from Palpatine. I think you should have inserted it (but I assume you’ll do that for your ā€œrealā€ edit of Episode III).

Yeah, I like this scene too, but I felt that with the war room scene unedited, it didn’t really work, and since this is supposed to be purely an extended edition, I didn’t want to do that. It will probably be in my full fan edit of episode III.

I’m hoping in your fanedit you pick to keep either the deleted scene (Plot to Destroy the Jedi) or the war room theatrical scene. Either one or the other because in L8wtrs he keeps both and the repetitive dialogue is so obvious that I feel it really detracts from the experience whereas in Hal’s he inserted the deleted scene and removed the war room scene which did not have any issues of repetitive dialogue and it improved upon the theatrical. Not saying if you should include the deleted scene over the war room scene but I think it would be best to decide on which one to keep rather than doing both.

Sorry for being off topic from the thread but wanted to throw in my 2 cents 😃

I can see why it would be illegal on a moral basis but the practical benefits of legalized prostitution are often ignored by people. Not only would the STD rate would drop considerably, if regulated prostitution would bring in a substantial amount of revenue.

Exactly. As I said before, I would never do it. But I guess the libertarian in me just is thinking ā€œWho gives a crap?ā€. Your not hurting anyone. I seem to remember on the Joe Rogan podcast when he talked about how stupid it is that it is illegal in most places.

I for one am not jumping to pay for a prostitute and do not plan to for the rest of my life since I agree with everything that Possessed has said, but it is ridiculous that it is illegal in America. It is basically legal when you see a rich old white man marry some hot chick who is less than half his age. It is pretty apparent what that relationship entails.

The DC Extended Universe
Time

I really hate that DC thinks tone is their biggest issue. Tone is fine by me. The darker tone was fine. What didn’t work in BvS was that it was a narrative mess, with not enough character motivation, and an obvious need to bloat the film with a billion different hefty checkboxes like doomsday, Wonder Woman, and supermans dearh. Tone was the least of their problems. Which is why I’m pretty sure Justice League could just as well be BvS + a ton of jokes if DC keeps thinking that was the big issue with BvS.

Star Wars - Harmys Despecialized Edition v2.7.

I introduced Star Wars to a cousin of mine. He has never seen any Star Wars movie. My friend who came by too said - Yeah we should do a Star Wars marathon in order. I quickly stopped the crazy talk, and he too enjoyed the original unaltered version. We also watched most of that 20 minute video showing all the changes.

I’m planning on making another full set for a family friend, my family and I will be visiting later this year. I’ll try to educate family and friends as much as possible, in hopes they will do the same.

Good on you for talking that friend out of such nonsense. Nothing hurts more than someone just going ā€œOh that good ol Star Wars series, you haven’t seen it? Look at this dandy complete saga blu ray set. Let us just sift through chronologically from 1-6.ā€

Poor soul is forced to watch unedited prequels before OT, and then the hacked up special editions after that.

Star Wars Episode IX (was) to be directed by Colin Trevorrow - DUEL OF THE FATES RIP
Time

Earlier in the thread I saw someone suggest Spielberg should do episode 9 instead of Colin and boy oh boy, that is literally now something I can’t get out of my head. It would have been such a good move on Disney. An undeniably amazing director who has a long history with both Lucas and Star Wars, who originally was going to end off the saga when it was just a trilogy and then he could end the real saga (or you might say, a trilogy of trilogies).

Walking the Wire - Imagine Dragons

New single released today from them to lead up to their very soon release of ā€œEvolveā€. I’m pretty hyped and thought this was pretty damn good. I noticed that the four singles released so far for the album have a far more poppy sound than they’ve ever had which is refreshing and pretty satisfactory so far.
