New Blade Runner 2049 trailer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZOaI_Fn5o4

Not a fan of this trailer. Firstly, why the hell does this trailer start with a 5 second trailer for itself?

I’m not averse to action at all, but the action scenes presented in the trailer seem fundamentally un-Blade Runner. I think that’s partly due to the way the trailer was edited. This trailer is trying to market the movie as an action film for mainstream audiences, so it follows the mainstream trailer formula. It’s always a landscape shot or two, someone talking (sometimes to another person), action clips with overbearing drums, repeat ad infinitum.

The cinematography is gorgeous and the soundtrack is killer, though.

Agreed. But hands down the most disappointing aspect of it was that they basically confirmed that Deckard was a replicant, and I DESPISE that theory.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blade_Runner_2049
"When Scott was asked about the possibility of a sequel in October 2012, he said, ‘It’s not a rumor—it’s happening. With Harrison Ford? I don’t know yet. Is he too old? Well, he was a Nexus-6 so we don’t know how long he can live. And that’s all I’m going to say at this stage.’"

The general consensus is that Deckard being a Replicant diminishes the story of the original film, and though I have never much cared for the Blade Runner universe, I agree. It seems like Ridley Scott has entered the phase where his interpretation is the right and valid one, even at the expense of the basic theme and continuity of his franchises. Sounds like another director I know…

Exactly. Everything works better in the Blade Runner when he’s a human which is why the final cut minus the unicorn dream is the perfect cut of the movie for me.

The SE is solid, I just got that one myself a couple weeks ago (but I only change underwear every two and a half years).

The SE has definitely served me well! I wanted the specs of the 6S and the upgraded camera but hated the bigger screen so the SE is the best of both worlds for me.

That’s what the youth of today are into my man. They change phones like they change their underwear.

Every few months.

No.

My brothers phone stopped working so I gave him the LG, and then there was a good deal for an iPhone SE at that moment.

So how is your brother doing with the LG?

He likes it quite a bit. I thought it worked pretty well too.

Jesus Christ.

Fictional character. Who gives a shit if they change him into a woman? Get over it.

I don’t care about the change myself. I forgot who said it, but someone remarked how Doctor Who has no specifically masculine characteristics so it’s not that big of a deal for me.

I do get annoyed when people throw strong words like “sexist” around when discussing something as trivial as a TV Show.

I’m sick of everyone giving Warbler shit and even suggesting that what he is saying makes him someone who is acting like a sexist pig. He simply doesn’t agree with the change about a character and to call him sexist is completely out of line.

This is why “liberal snowflake” is a commonly used term. Your calling him a sexist for a creative disagreement over a character and their identity.

What does everyone think of this smart phone, the LG X Charge?

http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phones/lg-M322-x-charge-xfinity-mobile

I looked up that phone and didn’t find much about it. I can’t really make a judgement on it. Why did this particular phone pique your interest?

price.

I think it only works on Comcast’s new cellular network. That might be a problem. What price range are you shooting for?

about the price of this phone.

Yes?

sorry it costs about $180.

I am willing to join comcast’s network. We already have our cable, internet, and land lines through them.

Well, if you don’t care about having a stellar phone, then, yes, buy it.

Well, I would love to have a “stellar phone”, but I don’t have the money for that right now. I guess what I want to know, is, is there any big thing that this phone can’t do? Is there anything this phone can’t do that is standard for smartphones to be able to do?

I used to have this phone and think it would serve you pretty well. It’ll get the job done and has STELLAR battery life.

Yes, it has light speed. I’d think the fully operational part refers to the multi-reactor laser. They’ve only tested the single reactor.

I don’t see why the blue planet shouldn’t be or become Scarif in ANH:R. It would connect the films.

Exactly. I think that maybe making the planet a tad brighter would make it look a lot like Scarif.

File under “Links that Frink already posted but are relevant to the conversation:”

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/ali-owens/4-problematic-statements-white-people-make-about-race_b_9212864.html

The part pertaining to “I don’t see color”/“color blind:”

  1. “I Don’t See Color.”

On the surface, this might seem like a harmless statement affirming that race doesn’t matter to you one way or another. But what it’s really doing is claiming that all of us are the same - which isn’t true. Because even though we are all human and are all made of the same stuff, it is our responsibility to acknowledge that, since we do exist within a societal system of racism, the color of our skin can and does dictate the way each of us experiences life.

To state that there is no difference between a white person and a black person is to completely erase the black person’s experience of oppression in today’s society - and that’s not helpful.

What to say instead: “Though I believe every human deserves equal rights, I recognize that people of color have had very different experiences of life than I have, due to the struggles they have endured based on the color of their skin.”

Me and warbler agree that we both would rather judge someone soley on their actions and what type of person they are rather than their race and I don’t see how that is wrong in the slightest. Neither of us would deny the roots of racism and that it existed but I would argue that it isn’t a major deciding factor for someone’s future in America. I think that is mainly up to you as an indidvual.

Firstly: Ok, maybe that’s what you think and do. I believe you. But many people say “I don’t see color” and mean what that article. I suggest you discontinue your use of that phrase.

Secondly: I guess it seems like you and I will never meet eye to eye on how there is still systematic racism in this country.

I would guess so too. But that’s no problem. I know that you, just as well as myself, hate racism and want every last trace of such an evil thing to be gone and that’s all that matters in the end. Thanks for the discussion though. I always love getting as many different viewpoints as possible on various issues.
