I honestly don’t understand why warb got so upset. I’d imagine Frink feels the same way.

So I guess, accidental bully?

The thing is that if Frink had any sense, he would have stopped it a lot earlier. And he does have a history of considering his opinion better than others. I already have extensively argued with him once when he thought his opinion on ROTS was objectively more correct than someone else.

No, not a bully.

But I would say that Frink has been pushing people’s buttons. It might be nice if he backed off of that a bit.

Oh but that’s just silly old Frink!

It’s not silly old Frink when it causes one to feel bad about it, as it happened with Warbler. The Wikipedia article on bullying says that there’s an imbalance of power a lot of the time with bullying. I think here people do think Frink is a level above them in clout. He’s a person that lot of people like or look up to. Warbler’s said he’s been bullied a lot in the past, that’s probably why he had such a bad reaction.

I was being sarcastic.

Han - Solo Movie ** Spoilers **

The only moment I felt was “remember this?” was the cantina guys. C-3PO and R2-D2 were theoretically supposed to appear in every movie, so I thought that their cameo was a nice nod to that. And it lasted for about 2 seconds, so I really don’t know how it managed to in 2 seconds bother some people to the extent it did.

And I didn’t know there was blue milk in the movie until now. And d so, what’s the big deal? Maybe it’s like the most common juice in the Star Wars universe, or it’s easy for farmers to acquire.

I don’t know, I rewatched the Vader moments last night and those didn’t really feel as fan service-y as I thought they would either. Oh well.

While I disagree on 3PO and R2 mainly because of execution, I’m with you on basically everything else.

And the problem with the blue milk is that the shot centers and zooms right in on it for no other reason than fanservice.

Guys wearing Stormtrooper/Vader helmets pretending the Millennium Falcon’s cockpit is their dick and ‘masturbating’ it.

Oh, I recall a joke like that with a action figure of some droid or something. Ain’t appropriate for a forum that’s for sure. Doesn’t matter if it’s hilarious in the context of one of their videos considering NFSW content isn’t allowed if I’m correct.

I hope I ain’t crazy for finding the C3PO and R2 cameo to be stupid cause I groaned when that came on screen. It just felt so hamfisted.

What did you think of the Evazan and Ponda Baba cameo?

It wasn’t hamfisted… it was like the whole swine right up to the elbow.

This. Same as the blue milk. Felt like I was being treated like a two year old. No, it couldn’t have been just in the corner of a medium shot, it had to slowly zoom right in on it for a solid two seconds and just screamed “Remember thissss!?!?”

I liked No Country a lot, but I still think There Will Be Blood deserved Best Picture that hear over it.

I watched both in the same day for this very reason. I really did enjoy There Will Be Blood a lot but it didn’t feel nearly as layered as No Country for Old Men. Daniel Day Lewis and Paul Dano are wonderful though, it’s beautifully shot, has a great score, and I find it to be impeccable film making. I prefer No Country but TWBB is about as a close second as it can get.

SPOILERS BELOW:

The movie is one big allegory for evil in the world and how humans cope with it and it is expressed through the characters. I also really appreciated the balls the movie had to kill off characters. It introduced Woody’s character very well. His interactions made me completely understand him and care for what was going to happen because he felt that he not only understood the evil of Anton, but that he could defeat him. And I completely believed it. Then you see him in the situation he thinks he can get out of and he just…dies. It’s another unique angle the movie presents for how people deal with the unavoidable evil of the world. I still am thinking about it to this day. And your also meant to feel unsatisfied. It’s the whole crux of the film told through Tommy Lee Jones.

I got the impression in TFA that Leia had been shut out of the political process somewhere in those three decades. (I think someone said the novelization suggested the information about her true father was used against her?) Would that also cause the New Republic leadership to distance itself from Luke and the attempt to bring back the Jedi?
That could also factor in Luke’s decisions.

Bloodline is that story.

Also, sorry guys, RLM sucks.

RLM is amazing. Hands down my favorite youtube channel and I ain’t being sarcastic. They also have great analysis. There are some wonderful half in the bag episodes of breaking down movies.

The First Order was equally diverse as the Resistance, if not more so.

We need to cut out Phasma though.

Some people want to cut her down for other reasons than being sexist but oh well.

Yeah I know but that’s for a different thread. This one’s for making women learn their place!

Sorry, I misunderstood your post. I almost forgot what thread I was in.

People trying to assign the First Order some sort of divine right or conservative philosophy are really looking into it too much. First Order are evil dudes who want to rule galaxy. It’s Star Wars people. Movies best suited around ideas of heroism and adventure, not politics. Partly why I don’t like the animal cruelty stuff in TLJ. It feels out of place even if I am against animal cruelty.

Starting back in around 2009 or 2010 I had the goal to one day see all the Best Picture nominees before the awards ceremony. I finally managed this for the 2013 awards in 2014. From there my goal became to see all the Best Picture nominees before the nominations were even announced. I came really close (one off) a couple years ago, and last year I managed it easily.

This year, not only have I easily managed that, but I’ve almost managed to see every single major awards contender before the nominations (missed out on Roman J. Israel and Molly’s Game, wanted to see the former but it past me by, been trying to see the latter the past couple weeks and came very close to last night). I guess this will be my new goal next year.

However what’s pretty funny that I’m just realizing is that I’ve almost already seen every movie in every category. Not counting original song, which is a bullshit category, the only other film I haven’t seen is Victoria and Abdul (and even if you count song there are only two more).

Less impressive is animated, where I’ve only seen one, and my showing in foreign and documentary is pathetic as I’ve seen none (as for shorts it’s essentially impossible to see most beforehand).

Anyway, what’s the verdict, should I watch more movies, or less movies?

I tried to pull off this as well and came relatively close. What were some of your favorites? For me I thought that A Ghost Story went really under the radar.

A Ghost Story was very good, very small film that came and went from theaters in flash but it’s on Amazon Prime now so hopefully more people will see it.

My top ten this year:

  1. Star Wars: The Last Jedi
  2. Dunkirk
  3. Phantom Thread
  4. The Post
  5. Baby Driver
  6. Blade Runner 2049
  7. Get Out
  8. The Disaster Artist
  9. War For the Planet of the Apes
  10. Lady Bird

Interesting that Three Billboards and Shape of Water are left out of here? I wasn’t the biggest fan of Shape of Water but overall really enjoyed Three Billboards. The writing felt a bit sloppier than some would say but it was pretty satisfying for me.
