Just find a great musical piece to set it over and your good.

And you could even switch it up so that you use the Luke contacting Leia scene for his Crait projection, have Luke live, then you show him hovering above the rock when he is moving the Raddus, and THEN he stares at the binary sunset to end the film.

I know there have been many versions of this change but here’s my take on removing the prank phone call between Hux and Poe. I am in the camp of removing it all together, so this specific cut only applies if you are fine with the entire joke being gone.

Oh and I remembered the suggestion also about adding music over the moment when he tosses the saber.

Once we finalize the shot of him tossing it, I could overlay new music and then the saber toss might just be fixed!!

I’m gonna try making both of those cuts now that you brought them up. Good ideas TK. It’s crazy how such small cuts can elevate pacing and the consistency of a character.

I color corrected and sharpened the clip to have it better match up with the surrounding footage.

I also added new sound effects to account for the camera being closer (you can hear the saber whooshing and you can better hear Luke’s throw)

I think I will try changing the music since this is a good point. Turning it away from a joke into a serious moment is the most important thing cause him rejecting the saber as an idea is not bad to me. It was just the execution.

In his defense I wasnt offended by it and I don’t think he was tryimg to hurt. And I also don’t know that it was necessary to announce to everybody that you were sending him a message about one of his posts, kinda plays right in to the hands of the camp that think (some) of the mods here (sometimes) treat people like children who need scolded.

and possibly that paja may be a little off - as many of us are when suffering from ailments / illness etc.

I enjoy Mark Hamill’s performance a lot.

Not a fan of how the film plays out but I’ll vehemently defend Mark’s performance, I think he did an outstanding job.

The amount of effort Hamill put into his role despite him disagreeing entirely with the writing of his character, I think really shows how much of a stand up guy he is. You can tell he cares a lot about the characters and the lore, and even if he disagreed with the direction that Rian took, he was dedicated to bringing out his vision. Very commendable.

Indeed. On the other side of the coin, it’s painfully obvious when Harrison Ford doesn’t like a role he’s playing.

Yeah, he seemed to be much more into playing TFA Han than ROTJ Han. First time in years I’ve seen Ford deliver a performance he wasn’t sleepwalking through.

Pretty much every interview I’ve seen of his the last few years has him saying his purpose for playing a role is the paycheque.

I don’t know how to believe that when I watch him in Blade Runner 2049.

I am still stuck on the Leia scene. Is it enough to just show her on the stretcher or do we need to see more? I can’t really find any suitable footage to add.

I tried to build upon many suggestions when I got to finetuning this rescoring.

-Firstly, the music now fades out when we cut to the bridge with Hux. I was able to bridge the rising drums between two points at the end of the piece to do so and it flows pretty well.
-The music has been turned down a notch so that the dialogue can stand out more.
-The music now starts earlier and fades in more gradually.
-The dialogue audio has been polished up.

Please tell me how you all like the updates to the scene!

This is a rare case of rescoring with a prequel theme that actually works for me. In fact, I kind of love it.

There’s just one thing that bugs me. Now that the music is so much more dramatic, Kylo’s lines about her parents being ‘filthy junk traders’ sounds a bit quotidian and out of place. This is also a result of Rian’s penchant for having characters overexplain things, so I’d really like to hear a version where Kylo is silent after Rey says ‘They were nobody’. Maybe just skip right to ‘You have no place in this story’, and maybe show her reaching out to take Kylo’s hand before cutting to the cruiser turning around.

This would also avoid the confusion of Rey’s vision where she clearly sees a ship flying away from Jakku.

The only place I see a little disconnect between the music and dialogue is when Kylo says “You come from nothing, your nothing.” It might just be his delivery but it is the one spot it might a feel not epic enough. I don’t really have an issue with him describing where her parents came from. It feels like he is basically spitting in her face and driving it home how pathetic her lineage is.

I will consider making the cut though and welcome others opinions on this idea. I love your suggestions for fanedits Neverar so keep em coming, the one about the flashback with Luke and Kylo still has me thinking 😉

We need all the feedback we can get cause I wholeheartedly agree about Last Jedi being a nightmare to edit at times.

Oh danggg. That shouldn’t be too hard. I can cut her giving it to DJ and just start that scene with DJ stealing from the ship. And his conversation with Finn is the one meaningful thing from that whole scene so no issues there.

Here are two clips showing how I refocused the Supremacy sequence. I streamlined the Supremacy infiltration to give the whole sequence better flow and lend more focus to Snoke/Kylo/Rey.

-The next time we see them they are at the door, asking DJ how much longer it will take.

I do think that the force projection idea was brilliant and should stay but if you have him fight Kylo and physically touch sabers then it would show that Luke could make himself physically there and also allow himself to become immaterial to avoid any fatal attacks.

That is why the Ivan Ortega fight has me so excited.

To bring up another topic…I did kind of want to see just a little bit more power displayed from Luke. Just a little more. There are a few options for this right now:

1. The Redone Luke/Kylo fight from Ivan Ortega

This is the thing that I desperately want to work. He said he will film on a green screen with the costumes and all so I just really hope it works out all right.

2. Have Luke be the one to fly the Raddus into the Supremacy

This might work better if you start on Crait and end with the throne room like DigiMod’s TLJ edit.

3. Custom vfx work to have Luke bring down AT-AT’s?

This might be cool. I am literally just spit balling anything by this point to have ideas for Luke to do something else cool. This is honestly just a fanboy desire but I’d love to see something happen and the redone fight with Ivan Ortega looks like the best shot for that right now.
