I have to admit that I find most of your changes would make me not have as enjoyable of a experience. Especially removing the entire score??? Ridiculous. Very difficult as a side note but Williams gave us great music, maybe not as great as the originals or episode 3 but the March of the resistance, I can fly anything, Kylo rens theme, Jedi Steps, Rey’s Theme!!! I advise against entirely removing a great soundtrack that people spent hours upon countless hours creating specifically for this film.

I’m quite sure Disney did screw us over. Check that leaked Vimeo link posted on the forums… They will have timebar

And if I had one biggest addition for TFA it would be added musical cues throughout the entire film. I have had a problem which is that I think the acting, writing, and overall execution of Hans Death is better than the prequels but I still find the Anakin/Obi Wan confrontation and the immolation scene more emotional. It might be cause I have seen it more, the incredible score might give it that extra push but I feel with right editing TFA lack of emotion and story importance could be drastically improved. ROTS just felt more real and had stakes and was emotionally driven whereas during the Force Awakens Rey never really fails miserably unlike Anakin in episode 3 who has a shit storm thrown on him and its beautifully tragic to witness. That’s what is lacking and a fanedit can hopefully do is make the story elements and emotional connection to the story greater. TFA just felt too light but as the first film of the trilogy once episodes 8 and 9 have run their course I might look at episode 7 a lot differently.

The music in the immolation scene is absolutely beautiful, but I don’t care about Anakin at all so the scene falls a little flat for me. Whereas in TFA not only Han a great deal but I also have an emotional connection to Kylo Ren so smaller stuff like Han touching Kylo’s face after he’s stabbed hits me harder than even the “I hate you!” line in ROTS.

I sadly disagree. Even though I want to like Hans death more.

My sentiments exactly. It draws you into the film immediately.

Agreed 100%. Personally the only thing I would change is adding in the 20th century fox to beginning, fixing the graflex lightsaber sounds to match episode V, and adding in deleted scenes if they seem necessary ( and if the timestamp and watermark can be removed of course)

I agree on Fox fanfare, so classic and needed. But even though the lightsaber clashing sounds a lot different (very different actually) I find it very unique and cool but preserving continuity would be something I still wouldn’t mind being done.

so now that we are close to the release, i have been planning my edit of the movie. i just thought that i would run my version of the crawl passed you guys to see what you think, if there are places that need improvement or rewording:

A new evil has emerged. The sinister
FIRST ORDER has risen from the ashes
of the Empire. Armed with the
destructive power of the Starkiller
weapon, they have vowed to take
control of the galaxy.

Determined to protect the Republic,
a brave RESISTANCE stands against
this growing threat. Led by General
Leia Organa, they have been in search
of the last Jedi, Luke Skywalker, in
hopes that he will assist them in
restoring peace and justice to the
galaxy.

Sensing and end to their quest, General
Organa has sent her most daring pilot
to Jakku, where and old ally holds a
key to the location of the missing
Jedi…

Awesome, but the Luke Skywalker has vanished seems more severe than yours that just says he is missing

Nice crawl but the first line “Luke Skywalker has vanished” is so epic and nice. Unlike others I do like the theatrical crawl best. I don’t mind the focus on Luke and Leia.

This is very saddening but hopefully someone can get rid of it. Or better, they release it with an option for no time bar… I find it funny cause the prequels deleted scenes have their problems with being SD and now that we’re quite sure we’re getting HD TFA del. Scenes we have encountered a new dilemma when it comes to deleted scenes.

Star wars: A new hope
I just really like the cinematography like when Vader is about to interrogate Leia Organa and the camera zooms in on the small needle only to then go back to the opening of the doorway and then when it shuts down the camera turns down and then follows one of the imperial guards as he walks down the narrow hallway. Also the imperial officers are allot more memorable in this movie then in the others I mean Tarkin and Mutti you remember these guys were as two of the imperial officers in TESB look almost identical to one another and all of them are as forgettable as they are disposable. Also I am a big Alec’s Guinness fan and he is great in this. He kinda like the Gandalf of the group. Also even to this day this movie probably has the most believable effects. This one also has my favorite version of Han Solo as he changes from a selfish opportunist to a loyal friend and it is a great character arc.

Star wars: Revenge of the sith
Was originally gonna be my number one however I realize that allot of what makes this movie so great for me is how well it ties in the rest of the films. In other words one it’s own it is not that great. The best example of this is probably during Padmes funeral when we see her one her death bed being moved towards her tomb and the camera moves down towards the necklaces. You see that is a great scene if you are like me and you like TPM and you liked innocent young child Anakin and seeing that necklaces brings back memories from when he was just a little kid and innocent and now when he is evil Darth Vader it makes you more sad for him then you otherwise would.

One the other hand seeing Obi-Wan and Anakins friendship break up would have been equally as sad even if I had never seen TPM or attack of the clones. Because in TPM the two barely spoke with each other and in AOTC the two were mostly just arguing with each other. So when Obi-Wan says ‘‘You were my brother Anakin and I loved you’’ you really do feel his pain because you saw them as friends during the beginning of the film and seeing them forced to fight each other now makes you sad.

Other then that the CGI cartoon villain known as Grevious is allot of fun with his deep voice and over the top villainous behavior although how he is a coward is beyond me since he challenges his opponents to a duel when he could just have his soldiers kill them for him while he watches in safety.

star wars: The phantom menace
I just really like the design of this movie. Yes all those dresses that Padme wears and everyone says are so ridicules I really like them. Another thing that I really like is the character of Qui-Gone jinn he is disobedient and takes huge risk despite the fact that he is very old and wise as well. He almost seems like he is the kind of guy that has never made any mistakes in his life or is so experienced that he can always know what he is supposed to do despite no other else being able able to see the outcome of his actions. Their is just something really fascinating about that.

With that being said this movie has one giant flaw and that is the fact that none of the main characters has any character development what so ever. The only one who has any character development through out the film is Boss Nass who changes his opinion towards the human population of Naboo when Padme humbles herself before him and asks for his help. May I remind you that Boss Nass is such a minor character that TCW TV show totally ignored him.

Star wars: The empire strikes back
Since Luke is my favorite character this should by all means by all means be my favorite star wars film since this is the movie were he has the most character development. However the movie is just to flawed. Luke being able to find Yoda despite the fact that Obi-Wan only told him what planet he lived one and not in which part of it he lived or what exact region. Also appearently the AT-AT indestructable armor is no match for the power of plot holes. With that being said the duel at the end with Vader and Luke in cloud city is the best lightsaber duel in the entire saga and I love the cave scene when Luke literally faces his dark side. So yeah a great movie but with some very glaring flaws. Also Luke jumping out of the wampa cave instead of killing the wampa and staying there makes him look stupid.

Star wars: Return of the Jedie
Not much to say about this film that others have not already said. The Han rescue seen is way to long and the movie pretty much feels like it only has two acts. With that being said the throne room scene is great eispecially with that one soundtrack during Lukes outburst that has luckly never been used again in any official star wars media.

Star wars: Attack of the clones
So this movie probably has the most morally gray conflict out of all of them. After all the villains of the film are basically fighting a corrupt regime and I also think this is the first time that we see a villain with some semblance of family. I am of course talking about Jango Fett and this aspect of him makes him much more interesting then Boba Fett ever was and of course Anakin and the Tusken raiders are pretty much both seeking revenge and none of them is really better then the other. With that being said the CGI really has not aged well and that puts this movie down allot.

Star wars: The force awakens
Great characters in this one. I like how Finn has really no interest in figthing the empire he just joins the rebelion because he want’s to save Ray now that is what I call a real man. Also the scene were Hans Solo gets killed by Kylo Ren…well it is beautifully tragic.

Another thing that I really like are those HP Lovecraft looking CGI monsters that are on board the pirate ship they are awesome. However even more so then ROTS this movie is hard to enjoy if you have not seen the other film(or at least in this case the OT) since the majority of the jokes will probably fly over your head and that drags this movie down allot for me.

Blashemy!! How dare you put any star wars movie over ESB. It is not only the best star waes movie ever BUT THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!!.

Well Said. Couldn’t agree with you more. ESB is greatest movie of all time in my books.

Oh man, I had not noticed these things until now. They will never not be caught by my eyes now so this project is a must for me. Great Work! Looks extremely promising. Has anybody so far planned on not doing a fan edit but strictly an extended edition of the force awakens with the “searching the falcon” and “speeder chase” scenes with corrections like xxtelecine is making. I feel that would be a brilliant project to put together. Like "Force Awakens xxtelecine EXTENDED EDITION"

I’ll probably be doing an extended edition if the special effects are complete and I’d definitely use xxtelecine’s changes if I do so.

that would be amazing !!!
Do u have thoughts on which deleted scenes u would use?

Idea and Fan Edit Request: The Force Awakens - an extended cut
Time

Iv heard the Maz scene will not be released but I as mentioned in his own thread the possibility of an extended edition but with certain corrections like xxtelecine is thinking of making. Like restoring the original glow of the falcon and fixing the sabers. And the “searching the falcon” and “speeder chase” scene are the two prospects I most desire to be put in to better setup emotional impact of a later scene in the movie involving Han and Kylo. And the speeder scene adds extra fun action and explains why Rey has Finns coat on and why they just got off a speeder. But really, take a look at xxtelecine simply playing around with the images. It’s very impressive!

Dear Revisited Team,

Something I have been personally studying for quite a long time is the music cues in the Empire Strikes Back. Now I felt I had finished some months a go but I realized recently there were some things left unaddressed.

I have recently made a very interesting discovery with regard to Lukes Rescue music from under cloud city.

I feel that I have got a very solid music cue for this part that it seems has always been plagued by bad music edits from the 16mm to the original film and yes even worse in the Special Edition.

I would ask you to check this in the unused music thread here on OT in Star Wars fan edits.

Now here is the important information about it. It seems that the miniature Lando that sticks his head out of the Falcon Hatch is the Alien footage. This was stuffed in there as a fix. The Special Edition Panders to this footage being stuffed in creating extra hatches just so this piece of alien footage that throws the music out the window can be kept. When the correct music cues are added the original Hatches open and close perfectly in time with the music. When you remove the footage of the miniature Lando and extend Lando’s shot of Lando coming out the Hatch from Below Looking about. When Luke falls He Lands on the Falcon exactly in time with the music.

So whatever you do, be sure to trust in the music. Although the problem here seems to stem from Mark Hamil receiving an Injury during filming and the shots were apparently never finished. The music is there for something other than the miniature Lando that pops his head out and the silly extra hatches that are on the whole not needed. In fact they are all just creating further problems rather than fixing anything.

Anyway Thank god the Return of the Jedi Footage has been removed.

I have now finished my work on the music and can gladly walk away from it, it’s been very enjoyable. I hope you can enjoy it too.

Good find. It’s all up to Adywan but very interesting. If I can recall, for ANH:R he cleaned up so messy musical cues during the Tuskens gearing up in that scene.

The Force Awakens needed more trade disputes, more gungans, more midi-chlorians, and a child protagonist.

All jokes aside, the special effects were phenomenal and the plot was fast paced.

However, the political situation was impossible to understand, especially the relationship between the Resistance and the New Republic. Furthermore, it was hard to believe that Rey could use the Force so easily without any training in the ways of the Jedi.

Personally, I hope Rey is not a Skywalker. That would be too obvious.

Depending upon how they handle it, Rey being Luke’s daughter could work…or be disastrous. Explaining away who Lukes wife is would be difficult and it would be hard to do the reveal correct so I think I probably would prefer to not be the daughter…

Theatricals:

  1. Empire Strikes Back
Simply put, a perfect masterpiece. My personal favorite film of all time. It gives me a moviegasm every time I think about it.
  2. A New hope
Absolute child-defining experience and the Star Wars movie I have watched the most times. Simply fantastic!
  3. Return of the Jedi/Force Awakens
Tied up here because Jedi wraps up the trilogy with such emotion and catharsis and Force Awakens has such great characters with a fun return to Star Wars. But both have their problems. Jedi has a lack of tension and depth of certain characters and the Force Awakens lack of originality was damaging.
  4. Revenge of the Sith
Best story of any of the movies besides Empire for me. Best soundtrack besides Empire. Most tear jerking scenes in entire series IMO (order 66& immolation scene). But if it weren’t for that damn dialogue that Lucas felt the need to trash up its theatrical version might have been higher.
  5. The Phantom Menace
Do I hate Jar Jar or the botched romance more? I hate the botched romance more and henceforth I condone the THEATRICAL release of TPM a piece of shit. Just not as shitty as Attack of the Clones.
  6. Attack of the Clones
    What a piece of shit

FAVORITE FAN EDIT REVISED LIST:

  1. K6650 ESB semi-specialized
He keeps a few of the SE changes I like and treats this film with the reverence it deserves. Looking forward to ESB:R.
  2. Hal9000 ANH Custom SE OR ANH:R
Again, retaining few good SE changes. And of course I give holy praise to Adywans ANH Revisted. His attention to detail is astounding and much appreciated!
  3. DOTE(L8wtr)/LOE(Hal9000)
With a mashup here of these edits, it has made episode 3 into the most emotional Star Wars film with believable characters, improved dialogue, and scene reordering to recreate episode 3 into not only a great Star Wars film IMO but a great film of tradegy. A film about the rise of an empire and the fall of an republic done in stunning fashion.
  4. Return of the Jedi (Q2 Edit)
Pretty much removed offensive SE elements and keep Sebastian shaw. I’m almost finished with my own edit though.
  5. Force Awakens N/A
No fan edits yet of course. But still prefer theatrical to fan edited episodes 1&2.
  6. Cloak of Deception (Hal9000)
Jar jar is relatively okay, You end up rooting for Anakin, improved dialogue etc. what once was a piece of shit is now enjoyable.
  7. Approaching Storm (Hal9000)
Anakin is not a creeper, romance is believable, tightened up plot etc. what once was a piece of shit is now enjoyable.
