"Lucas can't find home for Star Wars spin-off"
Time
So here's the big "whatever" rumors for the live action series that have been bouncing around the net today. I thought these would be posted and discussed, but since I didn't see anything I thought I'd throw it out there. This was posted on aint it cool news website and was taken down a while after. So here is the posting from theforce.net on the information (which they credit from aintitcool). So all the goofy excitement about prequel characters is from their editorial. This was supposed to have come from some "trusted" sources that give lucasfilm information to aintitcool.

(remembering that the series will be set between Episodes III and IV)

1. Pod Races will be revisited as the series will try to take in and revisit a lot in the SW universe we have come to know and love through the movies.

2. One of the Pod Racers highlighted will be a character named Thall Joben, who you may, or may not, remember from the Droids animated series.

3. We will see Rebel bases, Star Destroyers, Imperial troops, officers, undercover operatives and much more...

4. Expect to see some EU tie-ins (horray!) An example being a Rebel General with the last name Durron. Could this be the father or family member of the future Kessel slave turned Jedi, Kyp Durron?

5. We will see a character named General Papanoida who could be the very same character that George Lucas played during the Opera House scenes in Revenge of the Sith, Barron Papanoida.

6. We will see some characters from the films such as Bib Fortuna and Oola, the poor, rancor eaten, beautiful dancing Twi'lek.

7. The Death Star plans should come into play.

8. The series will go into detail with the characters and what makes them tick. Not everyone is either good or bad.

9. Look for the tone to be that of the Original Trilogy but a bit edgier.

Harrison Ford turns down chance to reprise Han Solo Role!
Time
Ya know, this article has been published on many mainstream news websites. This is not a BS fanboy creation, it appears to be legit. The only thing that makes my mind scramble is what Lucas' intention was to use an older han solo for? Is he actually planning a sequel story of sorts for his tv show? Very strange that he would see if harrison was willing to do Han again, especially when there are no known plans to do anything with the star wars story post-ROTJ from Lucas' head.

Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side (the TM edit) (Released)

TM, I just want to say that you should take as much damn time with this thing as you please. ESPECIALLY, if it just means the product will be better. This is a free serivice you are giving us and nobody on this thread has a right to demand a specific release date from you. Sure we've been waiting, just like we waited for the original star wars prequels for over a decade. So all I have to say is, if you need to delay this a few months or whatever for redubbing, re-editting, going through different takes or screening to a select few........then my friend you MUST do that. There is no rush, there is no studio deadline or public outcry.......the ball is in your court and I urge you to consider how much time you need to pull off the edit you are aiming for (which is a premium edit). Nothing pisses me off more then movies that come out and suck only because the studio rushed the casting, director, filming and editting to fit a "release date". Not that i'm saying your edit is gonna suck, I think you get point. I mean, we've all waited to see this for over a year, I think I can wait a few months more so that you can finish all the things you want to do for YOUR EDIT. That's right, although we've helped with ideas here and there, it is still your edit. Your doing all the labor.

Yeah, those are very interesting clips, it will be a transition to get use to a different anakin voice, but that is something we're all ready for anyhow. The thing about the garage scene is that anakin was yelling out his dialouge " The women! The children!".........it was a tense scene that I actually enjoyed in the original (other than the bare reaction from padme). So I think you'll have to match whatever the "attitude" of Hayden is, especially for this scene. Because when you speak a low , calm voice for a character that is tempered up and is speaking quite loudly, then your gonna have scenes like that. I think your voice is going to work for the character, but you'll have to be mindful of the ADR and matching whatever we're "seeing" from the actor and combining that with how you want to pull it off and the different dialouge. I did notice a few words didn't match the pattern of his lips movement (due to new dialouge)......however it was noticeable and was wondering if you had tried to do more (added lines) when anakins talking is not in frame? It's kind of like watching a godzilla movie when the voices and the actors seem out of sync. Good job though, just friendly criticism. It's a labor of love isn't it?

Man, these posters are just fantastic. They really capture a the essence of the original trilogy posters that had artwork featured. Really good job. Let me ask you all this, is there anyway to make "real" quality posters of these images? If this version is the success that its building up to be, then I think i'd be interested in have a poster like that.

Another bloody edit of TPM (* unfinished project *)
Time
Hmmm, you mentioned having a somber ending for your end of ep.1 . However, if we have a somber ending for a the end of the first, second and a last movie in the trilogy.........then I see the need for at least one ending to feel successful or complete. And that is the best thing about TPM is that it resolves its obvious threat in the movie, it actually has closure to the invasion of naboo. I agree that it got complicated during the battle, but still I don't know if ep.1 should have a somber ending. It could be a DARKER movie, this is true, but I feel that ep. 2 and 3 end on the somber side enough. We at the "real ranch" were trying to make a movie that mirrored ANH and we all know that ANH had a big explosion and award ceremony.

I'll put it this way. We know that Lucas tinkers with the OOT soo much because he feels they are not good enough every time he watches them. When TPM had its premiere , he told E! entertainment that he thought the movie was "Perfect". That is what he thinks of his star wars movies, the prequels to him are the ones that he finally got right. All that other crap that came out in 77-83 was just lame special effects. He's a little cookoo ya know. So no, don't expect any dramatic changes to the prequels, not coming from him.

I'm curious about this idea of a "Hal 3000" idea that alot have been suggesting. What was the footage in mind that hinted at to replace the style of the droids? Were you thinking of literally using footage of hal 3000 in the shot? Why are we going for a big box with lights on it as a detective droid? That doesn't sound very star wars to me and actually sounds very 1960's star trek. I couldn't see Irvin Kershner excepting a design like that if it were involved in ESB. It almost seems impossible to switch between this footage and something else and make it blend without notice, considering the depth, position and the environment that obi wan has behind him. Comments?

Yeah, definately experiment with the nemoidians voice for different raspy, alien effects. The thing is these nemoidians have always LOOKED creepy as hell, its only their "doh de doh" human dialects were totally warped compared to their appearance. But I like the fact that we're having someone who is doing a real "alien" dubbing attempt for their dialouge.

I'm kind of on the team for having jar jar speak basic as well. I simply cannot connect with an alien character that talks all the time, yet is babling in an alien language...it just doesn't connect with with the actors or story flow. I know that chewbacca never uddered anything in basic, yet he wasn't in full conversations with ANYONE , except solo on brief occasions. It just makes jar jar more useless if I have to stop and read what he is saying all the time....especially since we will be doing that for the nemoidians and any other alien through the movie. And his mouth movements are NOT limited to his dialouge on screen in the original. He has a huge CG beak/mouth that only animiated the words to a certain point, I think it would be easy to drop new words on top of his actions that contradict what was in the script. Although i'm not really into the idea of him having a scottish/irish/british/australian twist at all. When i looked at the character of jar jar before I knew what he sounded like, I imagined that he had somewhere between a deep/normal tone and that he spoke in broken sentences. He did seem like he was a frightened/weak individual that was having trouble adapting to the cruel universe and I thought that would reflect in his story........which it could have.......and could yet. I mean, we do have the ability to make this character interesting and add some depth to him through Episode 2. I just wouldn't want us to treat the character like it is completely hopeless and will ruin whatever celluloid has his presence.

Riddles in the dark....

Thats an interesting direction to take with the nemoidians. I know you havn't had time to manipulate them yet, but I think there could be some more distortion or "alien" kind of sound you could mix with it. I'm sure there are some programs like this on your audio altering software. I would suggest writing some different dialouge for them, I was never satisfied with the stilted dialouge that was written for the villians of the PT. You could even change the emotion of the scene by writing entirely different impressions from Gunray to Dooku. But I think its a neat direction to take and the voice acting isn't that bad, just needs to be creeped out a bit.

As far as music for the scene of marching clones.....I thought it was mentioned a long while ago that the imperial marched would be introduced for this scene and I thought that it was a fantastic idea. I'm sure someone could change my mind with an alternate cue (Mthaslett, CC?) ........but i'd rather go for anything other than the trade federation theme from TPM.

Maybe we should talk about Jar Jars voice soon, I feel that trying to fix this character for all of us to bear is going to be a tricky task and although we can achieve it, it is going to be difficult. What does everybody feel would be interesting ways of portraying his style of dialouge and pitch? In other words, before knowing what jar jar sounded before TPM came out, what did you imagine him sounding like?

Hmmm, I see what your saying TM. I agree that there needs to be more of a personal slant on the line. Although Eric, I'm not sure the acting from hayden really depicts his character as having just realized he lost his one thing going in his life at the time. If he really thought she was dead, there wouldn't be the mild aggression that he shows in the movie, but pure rage. Maybe? maybe not?

not too bad......I think we're getting somewhere. Perhaps not as literate as "I cut heads off". Anakin is not very well known as a decapitator just yet.

"You will become one with the force, this day"

"For the attempt on her life, you will lose your own"

"You slaughter your own kind, for this we will extinguish your force"

Something a little more "movie classic". Like Vaders dialouge in ANH when confronting Obi-wan. "When I left you I was but the learner, now I am the master"...........THAT is a classic line from that scene. This edit is like chocolate and peanut butter.

TM, that is a fantastic edit of that sequence, it truly does add more "mystique" to the scene than was there before. The correct cuts and close ups are very interesting as well.

As far as a line for anakin, I would with something that almost comes off as threatening such as :

"You will feel the power of my blade"

"I'm afraid you'll lose your head for this"

Something that shocks the audience into wondering why anakin is getting out of control with this discipline. And it can be "Vader-esque" at the same time. Not to sure about the "slice to ribbons" line........kind of reminds me of "my powers have DOUBLED since the last time we met, Count".........which was a line that had a bad beat to me. But great job, i'm one of your earliest and most eager fans.

The legendary "Starkiller Ranch" Thread
Time
Hmmm, well actually we've all had this chat before. It is located in this thread and we seemed to had gotten off in a rant about titles for like 2 or 3 pages in the thread. Unfortunately the debate was soo exhausted that we decided to save talk of title changes for when the edits were completed. We could change some, none, or all of the titles....true........however there was a non agreement on which kind of titles to use and which movies needed changing. Myself, I would prefer the OT movies to keep their titles, considering that the whole purpose of these edits were to reorganize the prequel movies to compliment the OT more fittingly. However Ep.1 and 3 are fair game to me.

But we decided that discussion would be better used for the edits themselves and the details needed to iron out ideas and plot points to change. We could talk fanboy titles for months......but, as usual, any good ideas are always welcome.
