The OT.com J. R. R. Tolkien & Middle Earth Discussion Thread
Time

How could you enjoy them before and not now? The movies haven't changed. Only your perception, and only because you've now read the books and found them to be so different. I agree, there are a number of differences, but I enjoy them as separate takes on the same tale. You may have a preference, but there's no need to use rape analogies and such extreme hyperbole when you are disappointed in the creative liberties taken by the makers of a film adaptation. And I might go so far as to say there is no need to take such an extreme view in any discussion you have. I feel like you must be a miserable person because you dwell so extensively on what you are unhappy with in the world, and it makes me sad. Try to enjoy things a little more, and try not to let your disappointment overwhelm you so.

I just want to enjoy the LOTR movies again, that's all.

It sounds to me like you have never enjoyed them, and thus cannot enjoy them again.

In any case, I have read The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and I enjoy them all, and I enjoy the movies in spite of their differences. No movie is faithful in every way to its source. To make it so would in fact be poor storytelling. Imagine an extra half hour devoted to Tom Bombadil. I'd hate to see any film adaptation that included that subplot.

I'd like to see them too, both for the alternate footage and out of curiosity. But being them just rough cuts and probably not preserved, wouldn't they be completely faded by now? Would they be able to remake them just from the camera negatives, if properly preserved?

I've heard so much about the Star Wars workprint, but not much about TESB. What do you know? Where did you hear about it?

There is already too much deleted and bonus footage already, maybe if it was placed in a better context and organized it would be worth it.

For now, the footage has been out for years, and nothing has really been done with it, except for 1 edit. We are only now just getting some cleaned versions of the clips.

Just enjoy what's out already, and forget about getting anymore. It's not likely to happen.

Always the optimist(s), eh? Just like in the 4k thread, I see. ;)

General Star Wars Random Thoughts Thread

Actually, I'm glad for an excuse to talk Rebels for a minute without going into that thread. I definitely prefer the OT to the PT. But I have a hard time ever wanting to watch Rebels, though I enjoy TCW. I think I've nailed the reason: TCW is an improvement to the PT aspect of the Star Wars universe, while Rebels is a childish step down from the OT. Even though the shows are very much alike, in comparison to their related films, one series is superior, the other inferior. I have no desire to see Rebels.

Actually, I didn't really read what you wrote, but I am contractually obligated to post that picture in these situations.

I haven't read all these posts either, but I too am contractually obliged to respond to the first picture with this one. I assure you, I care very much for every concern you have. ;)

The stormtroopers/wampa footage is indeed on the BDs.

(Around the 2:00 mark)

What I really want to see more than anything is the so-called "Lost Cut" we've all heard so much about. It drives me crazy that this hasn't seen the light of day with all that amazing alternate footage.

Raid on the Droid Control Ship
Time

So as part of the media campaign for AOTC, the online subscription "Hyperspace" from starwars.com offered a rough edit of a deleted scene called "Raid on the Droid Control Ship." It is described about halfway through the following page, described by the excellent research T-bone:

http://www.starwarz.com/tbone/the-battle-of-geonosis/

This has been released on the BD, and the BD version is available at the bottom of the above page. However, the way T-bone puts it, the version on the BD may not be complete. Was anyone here ever able to view the original release by starwars.com, and was it any different from the BD release?
