^Both points are true.  I think the Victory-class hope is just a stubborn love of mine.  My friend mentioned that they existed after having read about them in the Thrawn trilogy.  I then purchased a book that I think was called the Star Wars Technical Manual and read for the first time that there was an Imperial-class.  I thought Victory sounded cooler, and since I'd read no description, I figured in must be a larger model.  Finally I purchased the Star Wars RPG Imperial Sourcebook (one of my favorite Star Wars purchases in spite of the fact that the Executor in reality must be far larger than described there).  I saw the Victory, was at first disappointed that it was smaller, but came to think it was pretty cool anyway.  The description made it sound special because it could engage in upper atmosphere travel, something the Imperial could not do (though now the Venerator can land, so there goes that unique point as well).  Still, I've always held a fondness for it and wished it would be featured in one of the films, including the SEs when they first came out.  I think that if I had any measure of skill, I'd make an ROTJ edit with Victories, even if it were illogical for the Empire's best fleet to make use of them.

What do you guys think of my proposal?  Should I start a thread proposing a very collaborative project?  Or would one of you who actually can edit movies be interested in starting one?  I'd really like to see something like this.

I really don't mean to raise a big stink about anything, especially if the intent really was life.  However, as I mentioned before, I feel very strongly pro-life, with less internal ambiguity than any other topic.  Regardless of its legality, I still find it immoral, just as I find adultery, lying, and Nazism immoral, though legal.  It's an issue I will never change my mind on I'm afraid, and I completely despise the argument that a fetus is not a person.

and you have every right to despise that argument, just as they have every right to make the argument.

I don't see how this furthers the discourse at all.  I could use this response in any debate and make absolutely no progress.  You brought up that it's illegal.

um, no I brought up the fact that it is legal.

I suppose what I said doesn't really further the discourse(I wasn't aware that every post I made had to do that).    I guess all I was trying to say was what they were doing is legally protected, no matter how much we might hate it.    I wasn't trying to offend you, darth_ender.

That's what I meant.  My bad.  And you are right, it is legally protected.  I just plan on fighting it for the rest of my life.  You're a good man, Warbler, and I know you didn't mean to offend.

And to everyone else, while I was not pleased with the candy, I want to reiterate one final time that I didn't want to turn this into an abortion debate (I'm happy to debate it, but not over candy which I simply felt was insensitively designed--meet me in politics, anyone).  I see that there are various interpretations, both for those who feel indifferent and those who were offended.  I personally feel it is wise to avoid offending people, but simultaneously we all deserve to express our feelings.  I don't much care for the candy design and my interpretation of the intended message, but frankly I think this thread as met its end for me.  Again, I will gladly and passionately debate anyone in the politics thread.

I appreciate your input and don't mean to make or contribute to a storm.  I do like much EU, but when it comes to fan editing, I personally only think in terms of the films themselves and trying to make them mesh together.  Please always feel comfortable sharing your thoughts with me.  Some may not appreciate everyone's perspective, but I sure do and always try to show that appreciation, even in disagreement :)

As I've said many times, I frankly don't care much for canon anymore, and really consider the OT my primary canon, and from there accept or reject other plotlines when it is convenient.  I often use the example of Splinter of the Mind's Eye, which was the original low-budget potential sequel to ANH.  As such, many ideas that came out in ESB and ROTJ were not yet present, and thus the romance between Luke and Leia, Vader is big daddy, and all that stuff are non-existent.  Last I read it I tried to enjoy it in that light, throwing out all other stories.  I read the Thrawn trilogy with the OT in mind, disregarding the PT.  But when I watch and read the PT, I disregard everything beyond Ep. I-VI.  As such, I enjoy the endless variations that people come up with in these fan edits, even if it completely contradicts established canon.

I frankly don't really care so much about the candy, which I have stated many times to one and all.  I hate the message I perceived to be behind it.  And I can see how someone in Frink's shoes would be even more offended by it.  I just find all life precious and get angry at my sons for needlessly stepping on ants.  When people treat unborn children as less deserving of life than animals, I find it offensive.  To see my argument when I first became really involved on this site, see here

I wish I were a skilled animator, but alas my road has lied along a completely different path.  Someone with the skill and ambition could really add a lot, including additional ships to the battle.

I've been thinking about starting a new thread, a proposition if you will, calling for several editors to work together on an ROTJ edit.  Someone would have to be the "director" who guides the story continuity (of course all would have input, but someone would need to coordinate and all would need to cooperate on story direction), but several editors of varying skills could take on different aspects of the film to create a fantastic edit in relatively little time.  But considering I have so little to offer, I feel it would be kind of awkward for me to start such a thread.

^My thoughts as well.  Really the movies established very few ships, and the goal of a fan edit definitely does not mean to make it coincide with EU IMHO.  Adywan had the Death Star in orbit around a named planet (can't remember the name), and that planet was not Despayre, the established EU planet.  Heck, many edits completely alter the most official canon.  I personally see no problem with taking a few minor and background liberties, especially the Victory Star Destroyers.  I don't know why, but I just loved their concept ever since I first heard their mention from a friend who read the Thrawn trilogy before I did :)  It's all just my opinion, though.

The point about clutter can be true, but in my dream edit there would be numerous more shots at several different points, lengthening out the battle scenes, and the majority of the ships would be in the background.  I do love that B-wing illustration and would love to somehow include a real shot of that :)

I wanted to gather all my ideas of the ROTJ space battle, though I know I've mentioned some of this before.  I don't have a specific play by play in mind yet.

Several ships should crash into the Death Star shield, as mentioned by Jambe Davdar in Returning to Jedi:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWHWm7ZPnK0#t=01h48m15s

B-wings don't disappear after dodging the Death Star shield

More cockpit shots, both from deleted scenes, and likely from filming new shots as well, including representation from other races, species, and the majority of sexes (meaning newly filmed females as well as redubbing the female pilot's voice (probably a British female, as Bingowings once suggested :).  Also it might be cool to see the two person Y-wing cockpit at least once, but I know how people here feel about the EU.

Other ships, including Naboo fighters, BTL-B Y-wing (I personally thought these were pretty cool from the CGI Clone Wars show), Z-95 Headhunters, Aggressive ReConnaissance starfighters (X-wing-type ships from ROTS), Victory-class Star Destroyers (I'm bummed the PT never showed these and instead invented a different kind of older destroyer), more TIE models (especially the bomber), though I am completely opposed to any of the ridiculously overly-powerful TIEs from old video games (i.e. TIE Defender, Phantom TIE), etc.  The idea would be to show the Rebels as a montage of whatever ships they could get their hands on while the Empire has a large fleet at its disposal.  I know many will not like some of these ships, but it seems like a really good idea to me.

Jerjerrod would be told to destroy Endor if the generator were destroyed, and he then prepares to do so in order to increase the tension, like the clock is ticking and down to mere seconds.

What the fuck? This is so offensive, but somehow I'm not surprised, given that you were the one who posted that "punch the woman in the stomach abortion" anime picture.

That Flaming Lips guy might be a very nice man, but if he knows about this and condones it, he's an asshole.

I'm glad you had the guts to say what I did not.  I know there is an abortion debate, but I really cannot stand the dehumanization of unborn children.  Even if abortion is justified (and in my mind, it isn't nearly as often as our society allows), I don't see this as classy at all.  A dead corpse is no more human than a a fetus, yet should we treat a dead person with disrespect?  (to allow this to stay on topic, if anyone hates what I've said and wishes to continue this conversation, please go to the politics thread)

Made some further changes and will find somewhere to upload it soon.  I put Chewbacca's capture of the AT-ST after the Ewoks destroy the other walkers to give the impression that such was the final nail in the coffin for the Imperial forces.  I will never make it a perfect edit, but it's a bit better.  There are other changes.  I'll post a link when I get it upped.

Hey, thanks for the reply, glad you think the idea is interesting! =) Must not of articulated myself well in the previous post, I was not suggesting a split personality, but Vader (in the full usual Vader suit) and Anakin both appearing at different times. Not split personality as previously suggested, but Anakin in the Suit doing operations for Palpatine, which we wouldn't realise until the reveal in ESB.

My thinking was of the Vader charachter always being suited, i.e. Anakin wears the suit so no-one knows who he really is. Anakin learns that Palapatine is Sidious, confronts him gets zapped by force lighting and the audience then think he's dead. Mace goes to confront Sidious (he'd have to learn he was a Sith Lord elsewhere)... Mace is about to kill the Emperor when Vader in suits turns up and cuts his hand off... Then the Emperor sends Vader (again in suit) to storm the Jedi Temple.

The advantage of this I think, is it keeps the surprise of Anakin being Vader, especially if you just see Vader in a few shots working with Republic soldiers, while Anakin is still a Jedi. As with the Bruce Wayne/Batman thing you never see them together.

With regards the Anakin vs Obi-Wan fight my hope (not sure it's possible) would be to have it Vader vs Obi-Wan... i.e Vader already in suit fighting Obi-Wan, ends the same with Vader getting arms and legs cut off. So his breathing difficulties come from the fight with Sidious... His missing limbs from the fight with Obi-Wan.

Oh, I get it now.  I guess my idea was similar, though we would know Anakin is Vader, with the advantage over the original story being that Anakin's fall is more believable.  I'm still trying to think of how we could preserve the surprise in a manner that is more possible.  I'll keep thinking.

By the way, I think I fixed your above quote :)

When You Are a Movie/TV Character...
Time

You seldom, if ever need to use the restroom, even if you are a heavy eater, and especially if you are a female.

Your flashbacks are always perfect recreations of the scene, where you can remember details you didn't even notice when you first witnessed the event.

Your facial hair remains the same length throughout the entire movie, even if you've been stuck in the wilderness for days or weeks.

You wake up and your hair (and makeup, if applicable) is perfect.

The world slows down and drastically and a lone woman sings during highly emotional moments in your life, such as the death of a comrade.

Your name is always catchy with no more than two syllables for your first and last name each.

The rich person is always selfish.

The black man is always funny.

The father is always stupid.

The Asian person is always more intelligent than everyone else and wears glasses to prove it.

The white American man in his 20s is always a cocky jerk.

The woman is always attractive.

The Middle Easterner is always nicer than everyone else.

The Italian is always a low class individual who smokes has shady connections.

The Russian always has a large mole on his/her face.

The medieval Christian priests are always hypocrites.

The Australian always can outfight or outsmart large carnivorous animals.

The attractive women are all single, surprisingly.

That girl at the bar you thought was attractive, used that awful pick-up line on, and had a non-committal sexual relationship with that night, always ends up being "the one" in spite of the unlikely and superficial circumstances under which you became involved

Abstinence and marriage are for old prudes who can't have any fun.

You can run a red light chasing and not get hit by a car or face any legal consequences for the lives you endangered (and cars that got in an accident), as long as you were doing it chasing after your angry girlfriend/boyfriend.

The bad guy learns how to use your special toys/weapons/etc. in mere minutes that took you weeks or months to develop and learn to use.

The person you kiss never comments on your garlic breath in spite of the fact that you just ate Italian food.

Posing in front of an American flag is just plain stupid and will lower your popularity (America is stupid, after all).

Nazis are always bad (in spite of the many good people who were drafted into a movement they did not believe in) and deserve to die with no questions asked.

Communists are misunderstood and usually deserve to live.

Whenever you get struck in the face, it makes a percussive sound like someone smacking a sack of potatoes.

Whenever you are struck in the head, it sounds like an empty coconut.

Your parents are weirdos, always make your friends and significant other feel awkward, and show off pictures of you as a naked baby to embarass you.  Your father often believes in bizarre conspiracy theories.
