Collaborative Fanediting: An ROTJ Proposition (BACK ON TRACK WITH EMANSWFAN AT THE HELM--SEE POST 1488 OR OP FOR A LINK!)

So I'm nearly done with the script.  Maybe I'll have it ready today!  But I want to send something out there again for people to consider.  I thought the Eclipse would be fun to see bringing the Emperor, though it would have to be clear that it left the vicinity and would not fight in the battle.  Ronster agreed that it would be fun, but I think no one takes it seriously.  I'm wondering if now we should?  Should the Eclipse drop off the Emperor and then take off?

Ron, this is your edit.  It's open to everyone.  Your ideas matter, and while I am pretty sure the first run will lead to a very similar story to the original, I hope it will expand from there.  Truthfully, I could see this edit being completed, and then several people using it as a base for further editing and more radical ideas.  I've really appreciated all your input, even the ideas that get shot down.  That is no empty compliment; I really mean it.

Harmy, I think the team wants to keep heroes alive in this version, but I say again, I hope this sprouts into numerous further projects, and while I ultimately chose to let Lando live, I really do hope an edit comes along where we get to see him dies as well.

I definitely understand, Ron.  I have to be honest, I like a lot of your ideas, and what I thought was impossible when we first started I now believe is indeed possible.  I imagine this edit to be rather close to the original story, and I think most people agree, but I think that we can continue to build off this first cut and take things further, even including stuff like you envision.  And I really believe you can develop your skills to be a fine editor like many on this site.  I hope you do continue to put forth the effort...when you've got more time and opportunity of course :)

Well, I suspect I am coordinating most things, but for the most part, I don't anticipate this is a very secret project among the various editors.  If my plan works, the idea is that every time someone has something to share, even an incomplete effect, they should post it regularly in the other forum.  And from time to time, I will post things on this thread so that everyone's interest can remain high and many eyes can spot problems.  So essentially, we have many continuity supervisors.  Good question; I hope it all works out.

Hey, I was thinking about you while working on the updated script.  Thanks for your efforts so far.  Things have been slow here, but I feel confident that you are chugging away at those deleted scenes.

I have been pretty intent on finding some useful Star Tours footage, but I'm going to give that a rest for now.  I still have ideas, but my diversion has brought the whole thread to a near standstill.  I need to get the script completed, and then I will send out the final vote, make assignments (assuming emergency powers of course ;) , and MrInsaneA will continue to work on the rough cut.

Which reminds me, I'm changing plans again.  Working with Excel, while nice for organization, made it difficult to insert and rearrange items (I'm working with Microsoft Office 2003 I'm afraid).  But I've numbered the whole script and changing the comments to be more specific of needed changes.  I'm also including all pictures we voted yes on (even the forest fire, which I strongly oppose because I see no way to make it work).  Even the pictures are numbered.  When an editor wishes to work on something, he simply says, "Hey, I'm working on lines xxx-yyy," or something like that to help keep track of progress.  The comments are numbered as well, so editors can also specify which effects they are working on by number.  I can color code the parts that are "under construction" to note what is in progress, what is partially completed (for instance, the sandstorm scene might be visually completed, but still will need dubbing), and what is completed.  Hopefully this is sufficient for everyone.

So I've been quite busy the past few days, and I had devoted much attention to seeking a way to include Star Tours footage.  I think it can be done, but I'm focusing on getting an updated script for MrInsaneA.  But for the time being, I hope that you, yes you, MrInsaneA, will go ahead and complete much of the rough edit.  Most of what we voted for has to do with the Battle of Endor, and if you are inserting pictures to give an idea of how changes should look, know that every picture you suggested passed the vote.  I'll get the script up soon.

Well, I think I may one day try my hand at really fixing up the whole thing.  It will probably be a while, though.  I didn't realize how much good footage is actually available on the DVD at preserv.22web.net.  While the full ride is the same crappy yellow footage, only crappier, there are shots on the B-roll and a couple of other things that would be far easier to fix up.

Plus, I should give credit where credit is due...the DVD the guy sent me, while still being yellow footage, is definitely the highest resolution of the yellow footage I've found, and thus a color correction would go far.  So one day the whole thing can probably be preserved at a decent quality.

Ron, I agree, we can just use it in a cockpit.  And since the footage will be sped up anyway, I doubt it would be terribly noticeable that the detail is lower.

I know I've been really stuck on this, but there is good reason: Whatever we add to the ROTJ edit will largely be CGI or Johannus's models from a distance.  Star Tours offers a chance to get us close to the Death Star with actual model footage.  It's new, but it would better match ROTJ than probably anything we could contstruct.  And from the B-roll I think we can get two decent shots that would add a uniqueness to our edit.  I'll upload them when I get the chance.  Busy day ahead with work and all.

STAR WARS: EP IV 2004 <strong>REVISITED</strong> ADYWAN *<em>1080p HD VERSION NOW IN PRODUCTION</em>

Here is a clip from an old Star Tours promotional video:

I personally think it would be cool to include an alternative version of the entrance to the Death Star trench in particular, given that this one is used twice identically in ANH:

Of course the question is if Adywan can make it appear in the same high quality (and if he feels the footage even matches well enough).
