I can't imagine God knows something about Hitler that we don't.

I assume this means that if God had foreknowledge and thus allowed or commanded that the wicked be killed before they brought destruction the righteous, then why didn't he have Hitler killed, well the answer is obvious: he clearly wanted the History Channel to have something to talk about from 2002-2006.

In all seriousness, both in the Bible and outside of it, God still allows wicked people to live and do wicked things, even nearly wiping out God's people.  God does give the most wicked the freedom to choose, and seems to only intervene when absolutely necessary to preserve the righteous.  Often many do die.  But God still gives the wicked their freedom of choice most of the time.

Besides, who is to say how many wicked tyrants God did remove before they actually became tyrants?  We only have hindsight.  He has the foresight.

Judges 21:10-24

I like the part where it says, "God commanded that..."  Wait.  Where was that?  Can't find it now.  Hmmmm...  Well, the people were so righteous at this time that surely they would do nothing contrary to the will of God.  But it looks like the theme of the whole book is how unrighteous and disobedient the people were.  Let's look at Judges 21:25, the verse immediately following your reference.

In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.

If rape took place, which sounds plausible in those verses, though not as explicit as verses where the Bible speaks against it, it does not sound like God condoned it.  It merely sounds like a historical recounting of what happened when the people were wicked and bloodthirsty against the Benjamites.

Hello

Am making a quiz for some friends and need a Star Wars question. It should be a matter where 4-5 friends can talk about the film (Episode 3 to 6) and find the answer. So not just trivia knowledge where you either know or don’t know it.

I have previous had these to questions.

In how many different systems is Star Wars - A New Hope going on in?

1: 1
2: 2
3: 3
4: 4
5: 6

3

Bonus question:
What / which system / systems is this?

Tatooine, Alderaan, and Yavin.

Do I get a prize?  ;)

What do you LIKE about the Prequels?
Time

So as some know, I'm working on a project to collect missing material from the Star Wars films.  I'm largely done with the OT, but I've been collecting stuff for the PT--not as extensive because I don't find the PT to be nearly so awesome, but a decent amount.  As I'm doing so, I'm using sites like T-bone's Star Wars Universe.  This is a very cool site with tons of information.  One of the things that impresses me is the context given for much of the deleted material.  And when referring to the PT, I can't help but think, "Ooh, the movies would have been better if they left in that line, or this scene, or that shot."  While the PT is clearly inferior to the OT, I do still enjoy it.  But I am sure I would have enjoyed it more had it been edited differently, not just cutting out a bunch of junk, but including some stuff currently missing, including some stuff that didn't even make it to the BDs.  I am now convinced that in spite of weak acting, overuse of CGI, and a weaker script, the films could have still been dramatically strengthened with some better editing.

Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released)

Okay, Harmy. You asked me to put up screenshots comparing the AVCHD from the M4V Handbrake made for me at RF21. I was going to do that, but then I noticed that yes, looking at both of them side-by-side I can tell the difference.

=\ All I know is that I want to put all my movies on my PS3, and it doesn't support files larger than 4GB.

Lair!

I think the easy first step to misunderstanding God's motives is to misunderstand and/or misconstrue his message.  In spite of what many have claimed, I don't believe the Bible ever has condoned rape.

http://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-rape.html

Similarly, slavery is not exactly as black and white as we interpret it today.

http://www.gotquestions.org/Bible-slavery.html

Finally, even genocide may have had its reasons.

http://www.gotquestions.org/Old-Testament-violence.html

I don't agree with every answer this site gives, and as you know, Mormons interpret some of the Bible differently anyway, but it at least gives an idea.  But the point is that the God of the Old Testament is often merciful, not just vindictive.  Remember how the Bible teaches of God's compassion towards the Ninevites when sending Jonah to teach them.

Also bear in mind the near-consequences of having not followed through on an order for killing an entire people: in the story of Esther, Haman, a descendant of the not-quite-extinct Amalekites, nearly had the Jews in Persian captivity destroyed.

Finally, at least one ancient scholar even argued that destruction was initially an offer of peace and a commandment to accept God's laws, and if rejected, then came destruction.

Now I'll be honest, these answers don't completely satisfy me, but it at least helps me see that perhaps there is a bigger view that escapes me at the present.

I don't agree.  While I agree that JEJ probably was slightly more important to the nature of the character, I think it took more than just Prowse's physique to create the Vader character.  I think he really had an intimidating presence, and the way he carried himself was truly imposing.  Even subtle body language is important, and I think Prowse delivered.

Top lingering questions you want answered in Sequel trilogy?

It's neither new, nor really overused, but I was thinking about it, and I wouldn't mind seeing the Kaiburr Crystal.  I know it gets some EU attention, but as most of us aren't huge fans of the EU, and even there it hasn't gotten a lot of attention, I'll bet a lot of Star Wars fans, both purists and newbies alike would be relatively unexposed.  It's an idea that deserves expansion, and it brings the Force more to the mystical side rather than the biological/midichlorian side.  It's a classic MacGuffin that could drive home a fairly simplistic adventure tale, simply set in a galaxy far, far away.  What made the OT so wonderful was not their complexity, but rather their unique retelling of very old motifs.

Video Games - a general discussion thread

I was a big fan of the original Starcraft and even designed a few maps (never quite perfected), which may be found on the Net. Sadly, the main site I uploaded them to purged its database years ago, so I don't think the newest versions are anywhere except on one of my computers in storage. But that's besides the point. I wanted to see if anyone has purchased Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm, and what they think of it.

Did Episode III have a single location shoot?

SilverWook said:

The ending scene for Episode III was originally shot on location in Tunisia during production on AOTC, but was reshot in the studio on ROTS.

Crews were dispatched to various locales to shoot background plates for Mustafar and Kashyyk, but it does seem the main unit never left the studio.

Whoa!  Tbone (finally) updated his site!

EDIT: I feel kind of dumb, but judging by the news section, I was always looking at the archive site without viewing the new one.

Deleted, altered, and alternate material project (Released)
Time

Ah, the NPR Radio Drama...that's an interesting thought. I certainly don't have the talent to do it justice. Could it be done? Well, there are parts that were never filmed or even conceptualized till the radio script was written. There would definitely be gaps that couldn't be filled with even this large collection. At least, not everything would be applicable (like there'd be no Squeak, there'd be no flight sim scene, etc. Still, surrounding footage could give context, and I think it is an interesting idea with merit. I wouldn't be the one to do it, but I'd be pleased to see it.

Deleted, altered, and alternate material project (Released)
Time

Organization is quite time consuming.  I'm glad I've taken longer on this project, as I was very near completion last November.  I decided I wanted to be even more thorough, and as a result I have found at least two thousand more pictures, many of which are higher quality than I had before, but mostly new pics altogether.  Also, I was using pictures that don't need to be included because they simply were captured from the deleted scenes on the BD/Behind the Magic, or are part of the original film's release (it's hard to be sure if something is truly a different angle/take of the shot or if it's just a snapshot of the actual movie sometimes--I admit I wasn't being too vigilant in my comparisons).  Anyway, I'm being wordy as usual.  The point is, I created a very rough draft of ANH last November that might interest some.  Again, expect far more perfection when I release the real thing--many pictures will be in higher quality, and I inadvertently stretched/shrunk some pictures I captured.  I will correct as many of these mistakes as possible and make the whole thing far more attractive.  So here is the rough draft, in hopes that even seeing this will assist folks in realizing just how extensive I intend to be with all three OT movies.
