Episode V: The Ridiculousness Strikes Back
Time

Maybe redub some of Yoda's lines with a character with "backwards friend" from Star Trek III.

"I'm looking for a great warrior."

"You seek I.  Message received.  Available ship stands by."

***

"But they're my friends, I have to help them!"

"Oh, Mutara Sector restricted.  Take permits many.  Money more."

You could continue this dialogue with Luke saying McCoy's lines and swearing, and Yoda saying, "Genesis allowed is not!  Is planet forbidden!"

This was a disturbing article I read, where it seems that Bill and Jimmy made things up, and supposedly Bill later said something pretty nasty according to Chris Doohan, James' son, and confirmed by George Takei.

http://trekmovie.com/2010/12/09/george-takei-william-shatner-refused-to-appear-on-stage-with-james-doohan-at-farewell-con/

I find it hard to believe, considering what lengths William Shatner had gone to repair his relationships.  I suspect, if anything, the statement is untrue or was misunderstood, and the reasons for not going to that particular convention were more complex than portrayed.

The Silver Chair - I got around to finishing the fourth book in the Chronicles of Narnia.  I was nervous about this one because we lost all the Pevensys as protagonists, and now had to rely on "Scrubb" and "Pole."  I actually liked this book quite a lot, and really enjoyed their, uh, optimistic travel companion, Puddleglum.  That character really added a lot of charm to the story.

I began The Horse and His Boy, but I really felt like jumping to a different series again, so I will finish it later.

Well, it took a long time, but I finally started over with The Horse and his Boy and finished it.  It was a charming tale.  There wasn't anything terribly memorable in it, but it was a nice addition to the series.  Kind of fun to get entirely new characters and see a story set during the Golden Age of Narnia when the Pevensie family reign in Cair Paravel.  It also further set things up for the final book, The Last Battle, wherein the bad guys of this book return to take a far more antagonistic role.  It doesn't surprise me that the Calormene are interpreted as racist stereotypes, but it must be remembered that C.S. Lewis was a man of his times.

I also have read The Magician's Nephew, which shows the creation of Narnia (of course another parallel to the biblical telling of the Creation of the world), how the witch Jadis came to power there, and shows how Professor Digory, with whom the Pevensie children stayed during the London bombings and at whose house they had their first adventure, played a large role in all of this.  I really enjoyed this book.

Now I'm about 2/3 done with The Last Battle, the final book in the series.  I can't believe I read the first book for the first time in 5th grade, yet it's taken me all these years to finally get around to finishing the series.

I was looking at Shatner's book Memories today, and it makes me sad.  His interactions with other members of the cast caused a lot of damage, and I genuinely believe it was largely unintentional.  The other actors were so professional, you'd actually believe Doohan and Takei loved Shatner as much as Scotty and Sulu loved Kirk.  But sadly such is not so.  It's interesting that I hadn't realized till my later years how annoying it can be that Kirk really does hog the spotlight in the episodes and movies.  Perhaps in the 60s that was what audiences wanted: a captain who could do just about everything from quoting Milton to beating off 4 armed soldiers with his bare hands and shirtless rolls, while still having the wits to defeat enemy ships.  But this clearly caused a lot of hurt feelings.  It's one thing I really enjoy better about TNG, as the various cast members all get their time in the limelight, all get to be heroes, all get to specialize in one thing or another at such a level that their expertise is indispensable.  But still, it really makes me so sad to see what efforts Shatner has made to patch things up, and to see that he still has been unable to do so, particularly with George Takei.

Episode VI: Return of the Ridiculousness

^I like that.  If ambiguity were kept throughout the whole movie as to who was Luke's sister, you could even have Vader/Luke say in Luke's voice, "I am your sister," and then die.  This could even be extended to ESB where Vader might say, "Obi-wan never told you what happened to your twin sister...I am your sister!"  And statements that "Sister...I am your twin sister," could send Luke into the rage that ultimately leads to defeating Vader.  Heck, it could even go back to ANH with Luke asking, "He betrayed and murdered your sister," and Luke saying, "But I have no sister."  The new "sister" plot could be the ridiculous thread that ties the whole trilogy together.  To tie up other lines that wouldn't match the plot, you could ultimately reveal that someone else is his father, like Obi-wan himself or the Emperor.

STAR WARS: points of origin - fan documentary (* unfinished project *)

It certainly could be a great documentary.  But you provide little insight into your plans, show little promise because you are asking for pirated editing software, and your wording is insulting to very high quality existing documentaries.  I doubt you could match them simply because you have more resources.  But that doesn't mean it can't be done.  Just if you plan on doing it, try not to boast about your abilities that you've yet to demonstrate while simultaneously putting down others' excellent work.

'Tis a good point.  Might have been too much for his younger audience members.

BTW, I've been wanting to say this for a while now, but never had the chance.  I've really come to enjoy his character above almost any other in TNG.  He is good-hearted and good-natured, he befriends Data and almost any other "different" character, and yet he can be flawed and impatient.  I enjoy his humanity but his unconditional acceptance of others.  Plus I was a childhood fan of Reading Rainbow, so he probably appeals to a warm spot in my heart there too.

Glad we're all in agreement. :)

What is a bit of a bummer is that the movie had lots of potential.  There was resolution for the Duras conflict, resolution for the Lore conflict (in Data finally using the emotion chip), Kirk and Picard getting together like everyone wanted, the Enterprise-B, the death of the Enterprise-D, nice special effects, and in my opinion some good humor.  But sadly, the nexus gimmick and the otherwise rather thin plot failed to carry the story sufficiently.

Oh, and something that has always bugged me: what on earth happened during Geordi's interrogation?  I mean, why is it that really the only bit we see shows Soren questioning Geordi about trilithium, when clearly he knows little about it and Soren himself is the most knowledgeable fellow on the subject around?  What was he trying to gain?  My understanding is that there was some lovely torture to go along with this, but since most of it was cut, the whole scene serves literally absolutely no purpose in the end.

Obviously there are folks who are not exactly fans of Generations.  It's not my favorite of the bunch, but I do enjoy it.  I admit, my enjoyment has deteriorated over time.  I probably would have rather watched a movie following the Enterprise-B.  Ah well, it's still fun, but still I want to gripe about it since I watched it recently.

Why didn't the Enterprise change their shield frequency?  It seems pretty obvious that such was the Duras sisters' trick, as all weapons went right through.  You'd think that would have been their first action.

If shields are so easy to penetrate once the frequency is known, why didn't the Borg try that trick when they first encountered the Enterprise in Q Who and hacked their computers?

Why did Picard have to pick up Kirk and fight Soren on Viridian III?  It seems it would have been far easier to interrupt his plans by returning to when he first met him in Ten Forward and Soren stated he needed to get back to the station to complete his work.  If he had delayed him for even a few minutes, it would have stopped Soren's plans right there.  He then could have helped deduce Soren's involvement in blowing up stars and stealing trilithium research and could have locked him up for a long time.

Usually Star Trek has some sort of technobabble to explain the unexplainable, so why is there some "nexus" that escapes the meaning of time and gives everyone lasting happiness?  Unless this is like a little crack in space that leads to heaven, it's just too contrived for me.

So there's my rant.  And yet I still like it :)

There were six alternate scenes shot for the broadcast TV version, with watered-down language "wally wick" instead of "dickless", etc.

I used to have a VHS recording of the TV version but I think I ended up recording over it with the "proper" version a few years later.

I remember watching a different version from both you mention here, even gentler in nature.  Ray calls that annoying fellow a "little weasel" or something like that, then when asked, "Is this true?" Peter responds by saying, "Yes it's true, he's a rodent of some kind, I'm not sure which."  I only saw this once many years ago, and I didn't expect the change.  I just know it's out there somewhere.

...and is Padme going to be pro-army in this edit? You could recut this scene to have her proposing an Army after witnessing what Dooku is up to on Geonosis...

You discovered my plan, yes I actually am re-edting the film and specifically that scene to make her pro-army, which is the only way to have that element tied up.

I skimmed over a few posts, and now I'm glad I reread them.  This is a fantastic idea!  I know George Lucas's and my political views are quite opposite, but in the real world it is pretty hard to imagine a vast Republic spanning a galaxy that did not require an army to defend against threats.  Padme's argument that the creation of such an army would actually force them into war is among the stupidest arguments I can think of, as those who seek to take things by force are often more willing to attack defenseless targets.  A pragmatic and realistic Padme is far more interesting than the fantasy-driven idealist.  What a fantastic change to make!

Emanswfan's Prequel Trilogy (Ep II Opening Clips Now Available)

I enjoy the new opening.  Very interesting, and I think it will work very well.  I decided to look back a couple of pages to review your whole plot outline.  I notice that the rescue on Geonosis will involve "regular" troopers prior to the discovery of clones who will don the same armor.  My concern is that visually it might be a little confusing.  I suggest that you alter the design of the troopers somehow to make the regulars distinctive from the clones.  It doesn't have to be drastic, as it would make sense for them to use established armor, but for the audience, it would be wise to make sure they look noticeably different, even if it isn't anything drastic.  Just my thought.  In any case, keep up the good work, and know that I really am pleased with the direction of this project.
