Nice when have those rare occasions where the three of us agree on something.  Not only do many with Downs live active and full lives, but they in fact have increased the happiness, activity, and fullness of the lives of others, yours truly no excepted.  I can't imagine I would be nearly as empathetic a person as I am if my life were not shaped so substantially by my older brother.

Sorry I couldn't play.  My wife and I spent the last day and a half in another city with a bigger hospital due to baby troubles.  Seems my kids all have a problem with patience, and it begins even before they are born.  This one just can't wait to get out and see the world.

I know we have a movies thread, but I thought it might be interesting to create one about similar movies that come out pretty close to each other, obviously hoping to capitalize on the popularity of the genre at the time.  Examples include:

EdTV and The Truman Show

Armageddon and Deep Impact

Megamind and Despicable Me

The Hunger Games and Divergent

It would be fun to compare these and others, naming pros and cons to each.  For instance, I just watched Divergent.  It was fun, but lacking in depth of character, with the protagonist Tris not nearly as fun to get to know as Katniss Everdeen.  While both describe a dystopian future, Divergent is a little harder to believe in (though both are pretty unrealistic if you ask me, but then we are suspending disbelief).  Both societies are bucked by a strong-willed female, but Jennifer Lawrence is a better actress who plays a much stronger non-conformist.  I can't think of a single way that Divergent is superior to Hunger Games, but I have to be honest, I did enjoy it anyway.

Anyone want to have a go.

Did you have a nice vacation?

One of my favorite franchises is Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.  Excellent movies, all three of them, in my book.  I know people have issues with things here and there, but I love them.  And in spite of the complaints people level against these films, one thing I never hear is how disconnected clips in the scenes are.  You will watch a conversation take place, and it is extremely obvious that the editing is cutting out a few seconds here and there.  It's not hard to miss, everyone knows it is happening.  Yet, no one cares.  We don't have to have every second on screen to know what happened.  I never, ever have had a problem with the asteroid scene.  It was obvious that we had skipped ahead a few seconds, just like TDK trilogy and other movies do all the time.  Just like "Concentrate all fire on that super star destroyer" led to an immediate burst of A-wing firepower upon the Executor's shield generator, though there is no way the order could have been responded to so quickly and effectively in so short a time.  Just like Luke dropped to the top of the Millennium Falcon from the underside of Cloud City and was immediately carried into the ship, though Lando could not have possibly gotten ahold of him and brought him inside standing up in so short a time.  Just like Vader got all the way to the Executor from Cloud City with no shuttle needing to be seen in so short a time, impossibly fast if we were to assume time passed at a literal speed.  Just like Luke taking off from Hoth, with no wipe indicating the passage of time, was seen in his X-wing hovering feet from the surface while the canopy closed, and then was immediately beyond the atmosphere.  Why do we have to see every second?  So often movies skip unneeded moments, and we never complain.  Why, oh why would we have to spoon feed the audience that somehow the Falcon had managed to traverse the distance to the larger asteroid and meanwhile changed the angle of approach?

Well, things are still complicated, but I can probably make a move or two every day or so.  What game shall we start with?  I would really like to try Dobutsu Shogi at some point.  It's very small and simple, but not without some challenge or merit.  But that doesn't have to be our first game.  Let me know.  And go ahead and make the first move at whatever game you decide.
