Blowing up planets completely falls flat for me after Alderaan. Did with TFA, and certainly did here.

Same, alderaan was important to Leia because it was her home so the audience could get behind that, but those planets in TFA and TROS? why the audience should care about those? what is worse that Zori didn’t care about kijimi either, nothing of value was lost to the audience or the characters when the planet exploded.

Would be possible to leave Chewie “dead” little longer? the reveal of him being alive was so close to his “death” that it felt dumb and cheap.

-Is there a chance to put the trailer version of duels of fate in the death star fight? it was promised in the interviews and trailers but we never got that…

-Is posible to make the Ahch-To scene the third lesson?

-Remove Palpatine telling Rey to kill Kylo, since Rey doesn’t actually make any moves to kill him.

It would be just a thought it doesn’t have to show any movement.

-Keep the no-look shot out of the movie. It’s really dumb, and I don’t think the callback in TROS is worth putting it back in.

That escene doesn’t affect the quality of the movie overall and i don’t mind it , i think that the callbak to TROS is worth it , the more these movies feel connected to each other the better (that is one of the things that the ST needs the most)

@Hal 9000 Here is a suggestion: can you re-edit the scene between Han and Kylo on the Death Star wreckage so people can tell that Han is obviously a hallucination and not actually alive?

The movie already treats the audience like children, this would make it worse.

Han is dead, is not blue like a force ghost, is obvious that is all in kylo’s head.

Besides that here are more ideas for the edit:

-If there some way it would be nice to frame the Ahch-To scene as the third lesson that luke promised.

-Remove the scene of Palpatine threatening Kylo for not finding rey, Kylo/Palpatine is an alliance relationship not a master-apprentice one, the point of kylo killing snoke and becoming the supreme leader was to move past that.

Hal9000 a question, what is your process for planning the changes of this movie?

Are you basing them on your memory of the film or are you rewatching it camrip to warm up (maybe do draft edits) and get an idea about what changes would work when you buy the blu ray the day of it’s release?

Well, this title happened organically without thought of Eps 8 or 9 needing any work, and I’d hate to change it now. Would be confusing.

yes, is sad that important plot points or explanations have to be watched in theme parks or video game events.

Found it, i’m going to do a simple mkv split and join about half way with v3 (assuming they were both encoded in the same way), to have all the changes of v3 but with finn and phasma fight

is there anyway to get V2? i like the new changes, but removing the phasma and finn fight is deal breaker for me 😕 (worse now that he doesn’t even has a fight or does anything in TROS)

I HATE, (HATE!) rey being a palpatine, but is an important part of the canon now ( the same as lightspeed skipping) and it will be referenced from here on out in other star wars media, so i will prefer for them to stay.

• Insert Han Solo’s “Ben!” from The Force Awakens into when Luke is reading Ben’s mind.

That would be great, that would make it a future force vision similar to the ones anakin had in the prequels.

Those changes look great! (except for the “nowhere” joke and phasma fight i liked those in the movie tbh).

I didn’t like TROS at all, but is nice to see that with the help of fan edits this trilogy could feel a little more cohesive.

Could something of palpatine be added to the “you went straight to the dark” scene?

The Luke Jakku quip is something I’ve hemmed and hawed over but I think it’s just not something that we would have seen in the OT, but that we have seen in the ST. So I’d prefer to keep Luke away from it since he doesn’t do it much. The reed gag later on seems more consequential and part of the point being made, so it feels different to me.

Whatever happens, I’ll get a solid workprint out before IX for anyone interested in having it for a countdown viewing.

😉 I will make sure to show V3 to my cousin that has never seen star wars but wants to watch all of it before IX

I’m excited, all those new changes for V3 Sound amazing except for:

-Removing phasma: i liked that sequence , phasma and that fight is just eye candy similar to darth maul or boba fett, i like the score that plays during that fight, the length of the film is ok, the only thing that made me check my watch , watching the movie was the fathier in the original, without it the film is ok and one thing that i liked about this fan edit was how little it change , was basically the same movie but improved, taking that fight out would change that 😛 .

-Removing Jakku being nowhere: i liked that joke/interaction with luke and rey, the more luke jokes about rey the better the movie is xD besides that, it fits with the theme of Rey = nobody

But putting that aside i’m looking foward for the V3 😄

Appart from finn if this was the version in theaters i think people would have been less ofended by the film, despise it’s glaring issues i loved the movie since day and made me fall in love in star wars again, this version only needs rose giving finn the lecture in the casino before them being caught, and it would be perfect.

Thanks hal9000 your fan edits always are fun to watch, I watched this and it was almost perfect (i loved TLJ when it came out ) but… finn arc doesn’t make sense, if i watched this version in the teathers i would have thought , how finn become from "this is not my fight i only care about rey " and making an attempt to escape, to sacrificing himself to save the resistance, i don’t like canto bight but without him watching the effects of the war (the childs and the animals being torture) he doesn’t get a motivation to fight alongside the resistance (him not wanting to become like dj after his betray helps, but i don’t think that is enough) , in everything else this version is superior to original is just finn’s arc in this one that prevents it to becoming my to go version.
