She is immune to it apparently. Plus she has no REAL temptations to join the dark side at all. (The whole throne scene in TLJ with Kylo trying to persuade her to join had me roll my eyes. She JUST MET THIS GUY, had a “moment”, even though the day before he murdered his dad and is part of the space nazi army that has attacked her several times. That proposal was suppose to be tempting?)

… I could talk about how did completely you missed the point of Rey’s arc in TLJ and how did you not paid attention to the movie at all.
But laying out opinions about the previous film and discussing it merits or shortcomings in a fanedit suggestion thread of a different film is unnecessary and derails the thread, there are countless threads for that already.
Not following something of the previous movie because in the opinion of someone “it doesn’t make sense” or “doesn’t work” is how we got the mess that was TROS in the first place.
The dialogue of @RogueLeader with her being tempted by the darkside, follows well her character and makes sense in the context of the previous movie.
I disagree, not making her parents be good people is definitely doable.
“Help us Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re our only hope.”
It seems that in any event her parents are redeemed as good and noble, unfortunately.

I think Rey’s struggle with the darkside works better with Rey being nobody, in that version, after learning that her parents dumped her in TLJ she develops the feeling that she isn’t wanted or worth of being with the others, that combined with the temptations of the darkside making her think that “she isn’t the Jedi, that she should be” brings her a myriad of anger issues and selfdoubt.
I find that more believable than “Maybe becomes bad because evil genes!”

This version of the hangar scene just has Kylo Ren confirm Rey’s fears about the vision she saw earlier in the film. Rey’s reaction to info she already has might seem a little dramatic, but in my mind, I interpret Rey’s reaction as her starting to feel that her future is fated and inescapable. But a part of her is still in denial, convincing herself that Kylo Ren is lying in order to manipulate her.

Well, I’ve been focusing solely on the default, Rey Palpatine version of this project. However, while we’re waiting on kewlfish’s crackling saber footage and potentially a few other things, maybe it’d be good to start thinking about the Rey Nobody version.

When something as dumb and egregious as Rey Palpatine is canon, i don’t think it matters anymore.
I think the impact is even better with the crowd reacting to “The day of victory is at hand”, like they realize there’s an evil scheme that’s approaching soon, which Poe comes to explain afterwards with “He’s been planning his revenge, his followers have been building something for years…” etc.
And like I said the extra line makes it feel more like they’ve been hearing to a longer message, since “the great error is corrected” doesn’t sound like the beginning of a phrase, now it feels like we hear the final words of a longer speech. The speech ends with Palpatine promising their victory approaches = the crowd gasps.
The extra line also gives more breathing room for the audience to understand what’s going on in the scene (a large crowd hearing to a recording of Palpatine), a first time viewer will probably “get it” after the establishing shot & the first line, alongside the gasps of the crowd. Where as the current version feels a bit “blink and you’ll miss it”.

- Rey was nobody, she had no part in this story, except she’s Palpatine’s granddaughter and her parents were killed by an assassin Luke and Lando chased across the galaxy.
“Rey Palpatine” is such an unearned retcon that goes agains’t one of the most important twist of TLJ, and that hurts the trilogy so bad, maybe JJ didn’t like the twist of “They sold her for drinking money” as so many people did, but retconning in that way is embarrasing, he should have been a professional and follow the story he was given.
Is like if in Return of the Jedi this happened:
LUKE: Master Yoda… is Darth Vader my father?
YODA: Mmm… rest I need. Yes… rest.
LUKE: Yoda, I must know.
YODA: Right you are, but only an evil clone of your real father Anakin Skywalker he is.
LUKE: No way!
“Rey Palpatine” is not just a poorly written predictable copy of “I’m just father”, it also confirms that only people with “strong bloodlines” with high midichlorians count can do important things or are important in the order of the galaxy.
It also doesn’t work in a character level… Rey doesn’t even know or care about the guy! Luke saw vader killing his mentor and chasing/capturing his friends before the reveal, that is why so hard for him.
Why is Rey afraid of going to the darkside because his lineage in TROS? HER FUCKING FATHER WAS A CLONE/DIRECT SON OF SHEEV PALPATINE AND HE WAS A GOOD PERSON ACCORDING TO TROS, LUKE SKYWALKER WAS THE SON OF DARTH FUCKING VADER … UGH…
This movie is horrible.
I’m committed to finishing this out, including a Nobody cut, but I’m so ready to let this whole thing be finished.

To address an idea from Dom’s thread: I will more than likely end up releasing the regular (Rey Palpatine) version before a Rey Nobody version. In case there’s some huge issue that gets glossed over, I’d rather just fix one than two!

I think if the visual is too subtle only nerdy forum geeks like us will pick it up. I think it needs to act as clear visual shorthand for “it was broken, now it’s fixed, but imperfectly” and I think the kewlfish version accomplishes that.

I’m a little disappointed in how subttle Duel of The Fates was in the death star fight in workprint 4, is the final duel in star wars and the soundtrack is almost none existing and the little there is, is very subtles and forgettable 😕
I get the intent of focusing in the sounds of the duel and enviroment and being a silent duel, but i think it feels very lacking.

the reason that i don’t think that i could edit the audio myself once v1 realeases is that i’m afraid to lose the crackling sound of Rey lightsaber from the audio of ascendant
- And, finally, when Kylo confronts Rey about being a Palpatine… I found myself still cringing at Kylo saying “You’re his granddaughter”, is there anyway to axe “You’re his granddaughter” and keep “You’re a Palpatine” and then have Kylo continue with “My mother was the daughter of Vader and your father was the son of the Emperor” instead of him blatantly saying “your his granddaughter”… it just sounds weird lol

I watched the movie 5 times already and i can’t take it seriously with that dumb, repetitive and shallow retcon of “Rey Palpatine”, really hoping for the “Nobody” version.
I saw everyone talking about making Rey’s lightsaber have a crackly blade. I’m a hobbyist, so not professional work but definitely a neat concept. Super early draft.

What is the point of making them snoke guards? in comics the have never been depicted like that, and they don’t hold any relationship with snoke guards in TLJ (they appear to be even weaker than those).
I’m confused why the First Order would still have a presence at Jakku after Rey and Finn left. It’s even more remote than Tatooine.
