What do you LIKE about the EU?

Personally I love the idea of a SW multiverse embracing early-draft ideas.

I guess this is my cue to provide a link to the Star Wars Multiverse list that I've been writing up. That I've gone to such an effort to create such a list is kind of embarrasing, though, and as such I'm hesitant to share it (again).

I loved that list. Never be ashamed of being a hard worker.

How about a universe in which Naga Sadow rebels against Marka Ragnos (as implied in early TOTJ comics)?

I think Vader was always intended to be Luke's father though, even in the pre-ESB universe. His name even implies it.

 *sigh*

Actually, Lucas' earliest surviving notes on Vader's name don't say anything about the word "father"--rather they suggest the name was a combination of the phrases Dark Invader and Death Water.

Also, I highly suggest you read through the Leigh Brackett script of ESB.

And even if Vader was always intended to be Luke's father, a universe in which he's not would be interesting. As far as we knew in 1977, mrs. and mr. Vader named their son Darth and Darth betrayed and murdered Luke's father.

The WEG RPG sourcebooks should be easier to obtain in that case.

Tobar said: Are the current novels that badly written?

Yes. Among other things, Jacen is a completely different character in DNT and LOTF.

This is probably going to come as a shock to imperialscum, but there's something about TOR that I actually do like and accept as canon.

I love the idea of Sith sleeper agents -- entire families of Sith sleeper agents -- operating within the Jedi Order, working behind the scenes for centuries to undermine the Order and bring about a rebirth for the Sith.

Yes it was an interesting character and concept. Sadly they didn't go beyond a few minutes video.

I second all of the above.

I mean, the real episode I was ANH, not TPM!

As far as I'm concerned, the movies shouldn't even have episode numbers. Saying "This trilogy begins with Episode IV, that trilogy begins with Episode I" places too many limitations of story possibilities; the saga should have been open-ended (open-begun?), with space available for any number of prequels/sequels/interquels/sidequels/etc.

I've always thought this as well.

I hate how the EU seems to deliberately miss every oppertunity for something awesome. KOTOR II hints at a pre-Great Schism Sith Empire, and what does SWTOR do? Reveal that it's just a remnant of the Great Hyperspace War Sith Empire (and no, this doesn't have anything to do with the things that myself, duracell, and imperialscum have argued over). The Unifying Force reveals that The Force doesn't really have light and dark sides, and what do the books that take place afterwards do? Not only do they forget that revelation, they also have the Jedi become just like their prequel selves.

I would have had a scene somewhere in the film of the Emperor, hidden in the shadows entirely, but just enough of a presence.

I would have fleshed out a bit of an animosity between Tarkin and Vader, sort of like the original conceptions of Vader and Jejerrod from ROTJ.

I second these.
