Please, forgive the abbreviation , and thanks for the breakdown of the Episode 3 that could have been. The Clone Wars montage could have been so cool and such a better continuation of where Episode 2 left off!

The other parts you mentioned that were changed or created to fill the gaps go a reee-aaally long way to explaining the weakness that exists in those parts as they now stand. Bummer.
Heck, I'd be willing to send you a copy of my edit, for what it's worth.

If you wanted to see it.

Heck, yeah! Seems like you have a critical eye for a more mature story. I'll PM you.

Awesome! I'd love to see what you've come up with.
...for the rotoscoped shots ..hmmm ..i'll let the surprise for the final result..one of theme concerning Palpatine becoming Sidious, now he has not his ugly face because of the lightening forvce injurys..he becomes sidious because he wants to..simple..
The way it should've been! I've got an idea for changing the transformation; not sure if I can do it, but we'll see. But if you're not sharing, then neither am I. Besides, there needs to be SOME surprise for the final cut, right?
...probably after the summer all we'll be ready fot the final result..

Sounds like a good way to finish off the summer. Where are you travelling if I might ask?
..DH i'm an newbie "editor" if you look/ask for some advices youre in the right place...

That's already become apparent. Thanks for the list of names; I may need to ping them down the line. Thanks again for your encouragement!

70% is awesome. What did you rotoscope, if I might ask? I'm fearing the sound and the score, but I know that's what is really going to make the whole thing work.
want to do things perfectly..hard long work..the most diificult is to have time to do it....

Yeah... things worth doing are worth doing right, and time is hard to come by sometimes. I've put editing off because of my fear of the uphill technical learning curve. But I just need to dive in.

Have you posted any of your edits?

Okay, cool. Thanks for the "very good". It's encouraging to hear people approve of the cuts I've made.

I'm not up on the earlier versions of the ROTS script; I've heard that Count Dooku was originally intended to be in at least half of the movie, but what other things were changed that you'd like to see in a new film?

Personally, I'd like to see what kind of movies the Original Trilogy would be if Lucas remade them completely according to his original vision. I think it could be a cool alternate Star Wars (if he didn't do the writing, of course).

I always thought that whole story-telling bit at the opera house in Episode 3 sounded a little transparent.

Lucas was like, "Ooh, I'm so insuating! Palpatine's telling the story like it is just a story, but it's really about him as a younger Sith! Oh, goody. It's so dramatic!" I wish someone had been there to tell him, "Uh, George, the audience already knows that Palpatine is Sidious."

You can't have it both ways when telling a story, either a character's duality is a surprise or it's not. oh, well. <darkhelmet climbs down from soapbox>

I have mixed feelings about him. I thought Labyrinth of Evil--prequel to ROTS--was good, but Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader was god-awful. One of the worst SW novels ever (that I've read: I avoid the NJO and the KotOR eras).

Luceno wrote the e-novel, Darth Maul: Saboteur, which you may want to check out to see how he handles Bane.
Ooo, an e-novel! Cool. I'll have to check out that and Labyrinth. Thanks, km!

According to Wikipedia, citing the SW Insider, Luceno had planned to write about the quest for immortality of Qui-Gon and Darth Plagueis, but this was put on hold due to "continuity concerns."

LOL! "Continuity concerns"! Since when has that bothered Lucas? Sounds like it could be cool, though, seeing that quest into the Force from both Dark and Light Side perspectives.

cbaka: Thanks for the kind words and for the encouragement. I really want to have a PT movie that I can sit down and enjoy. I'll keep working on it. The latest trouble is that the AVI I have created from the MPEG-2 file has some glitches in it, which sends me back to square one with re-ripping the DVD.

Hal 9000: Really? Sorry about that. I didn't know Rapidshare does that. Not so rapid on the sharing. I could upload it to YouSendIt if you are still having trouble. Or if you know of a different service for file sharing that I could try, I'd be up for that, too.

I love your uncompromising view of the GOUT! For me, the OUT will never be the same, because what once was canon is no longer canon; the waters have been muddied, and when I talk about Star Wars with others, we may not be talking about the SAME Star Wars.

At least we have this forum and Lucasfilm's half-hearted release of the GOUT as bonus material.

That makes me happy. Thanks for the background on the publishing decision. The name "Plagieus" itself would make me fear that the book would be bad, but I wasn't enthralled with the character name "Bane" either. Is Luceno a good author?

I just looked it up, and the new book is titled "Darth Bane: Rule of Two", which sounds like it will start directly after the first one? That would be cool.

"I'll be careful" (a little OT nod since that's where my heart is anyway).

But back on topic: Perhaps the problem is, that not many people, like myself, may know the book. I'm not all to deep into the EU stuff, but I might check out that book. So, thanks for the headsup.

Definitely a good read that takes the Star Wars universe seriously AND makes it believable. I hope you enjoy. I just looked it up, and it's out in paperback this month!

Okay, so it's probably going to be the 60th anniversary of Star Wars before I complete my Ep.3 edit, but, in the interest of contributing a little more than discussion to the forums, you can download a sequence I edited as it might appear in my final cut ( seeds_of_rebellion_OTdotcom_cut ).

When I started my edit oh so long ago, I had captured my footage via firewire from DVD into an Adobe Premiere 4x3 project, and I didn't care at the time that it wasn't anamorphic widescreen.

Upon reading and seeing the incredible detail and craftsmanship that people on this site put into their editing and DVD mastering, I just couldn't keep on the editing track I had started. I had to go anamorphic AND 5.1 surround. (Thanks to ADigitalMan for the awesome MPEG-2 editing guide!)

From the inferior 4x3 source, I probably have one-half to two-thirds of the movie edited without transitions between scenes and with only stereo audio which just begs to be remixed in parts. I am still trying to figure out the beginning and end of the movie.

I will be uploading other scenes from my inferior 4x3 source, so the forum can get an idea of the direction I'm trying to head in, namely "the-not-so-silly-Episode 3 edit".

Thanks for your patience,

Hey, has anyone else read the novel Darth Bane: Path of Destruction by Drew Karpyshyn?

I loved it! Karpyshyn, lead writer on the Stars Wars: Knights of the Old Republic video game, did an awesome job describing Darth Bane's fall to the Dark Side as well as demonstrate the Dark Side's nature and power.

Now, if only someone would do the same for the Light Side.

Your first words of reaction after watching one of the PT movies for the first time.
Time
After seeing Episode I in the theater, I'm not sure if my first words were "That wasn't a Star Wars movie" or "What was George Lucas thinking?".

I did get a horrible feeling from the very beginning after seeing the Epsiode I trailer which played before the one of the worst sci-fi movies ever, WING COMMANDER (that should have been an omen in and of itself). Where's Han when you need him? "I got a bad feeling about this."

That bad feeling was horibbly reinforced by the very first scene of the movie where the Jedi's ship captain played wooden against an unbelievably puppety and Asian-accented Neimodian. By the end of the story, the bad outweighed the good.
