Very cool so far, Tome! You seem to have a good feel for resequencing shots. I like the story you're telling so much better than the original!

Just a couple of thoughts: 1) Since you cut footage of the space battle in to allow Anakin and Obi time to get to the observation deck, how about cutting to the wide shot of the Chancellor watching the battle and then to A and O coming out of the elevator. It might create a better narrative tie between the almost random battle footage and the next scene.

2) Is there any way you can include any more dialogue for Grievous? I really like how you made it A's and O's initiative to face Grievous, but, for the introduction of a new prominent character, we don't get a big enough dose of him to really size him up. Personally, I'm going to borrow Kerr's idea and try to cut Grievous out of my edit completely.

I have to say that your idea for the opening space battle made it feel much more like a Star Wars movie to me.

Out of curiosity, did you do any major changes to the scene where Palpatine reveals himself? I personally feel like to much dialog goes on between him and Anakin, especially involving Padme, but I haven't found a way to fix that yet. Thoughts?

I don't know yet if excluding it all like I had hoped I could will work. Over at my thread, cbaka posted his edit (Sidious Fights) of fight portion before the Chancellor's transformation which really got me excited about meeting that challenge.

May or may not help you, but he cut out the part where Anakin lamely stumbles backward and drops his lightsaber. Maybe you could cut from "What have I done?" to the Chancellor walking to his desk with the line "You are fulfilling your destiny" as he walks (I don't have the video in front of me right now, so I'm not sure if that's even feasible. I'll definitely be interested in seeing what you come up with!

I'd be glad to get your feedback on any of my stuff. I'm sure the same goes with the other fan editors in the thread here.

I really like your resequencing of Palpatine's lines. It seems like it could really punch up the drama and make the Chancellor a little less of a simplistic, one-dimensional bad guy by keeping the reason for his praise unsaid. Exciting. There may be hope yet!

cbaka: I just watched "Anakin path to the dark side", and holy crap!

I love the way your execution of Dooku plays with no dialogue! I'm going to see if I can incorporate this and jedi_jra's suggestions into my next cut of the scene. If that all works together, then I think I might be able to move on to figuring out the entire opening to the movie, which has been really troubling for me for a while now!

In a perfect world my rough edit of the Dooku scene would go EXACTLY like you have described (well, almost exactly; I can't stand the fact that the Chancellor is so transparently a bad influence on Anakin while Anakin seems completely oblivious

).

The trick is pulling the scene off cinematically, matching shot cuts to make the whole thing flow without seeing Anakin's mouth move with nothing coming out of it. Ideally, I'd like the editing to be seemless like the Phantom mostly does in ATTACK OF THE PHANTOM. Any suggestions?

Yes, YouSendIt has given downloaders trouble, but everything of mine since "seeds of rebellion" has been posted to RapidShare or MegaUpload. Going forward, I'll just upload to either of those since they don't seem to be as troublesome to use.

And, Master Qui-Gon, maybe next time you could ask for someone to try to resolve an issue instead of just jumping into the thread with an ungracious complaint.

Welcome, Tome! Sounds like we have a similar goal for Episode 3, namely making it less silly and a more worthy precursor to the Original Trilogy.

I'm hoping that I can give my edit a more OT aesthetic, too.

I made a cut after the Anakin's line "I was about to say that". JUST as Obi-Wan looks back at Palpatine (it's subtle).
CUT to the shot where Obi-Wan turns around and we hear Dooku say "your swords please...".

Man! I think we might have made the same cut!

I managed to get the scene cut earlier than I had posted. Here's my clip of the Obi-wan/Anakin/Dooku duel. Is it the same as yours?
If you look at the DVD you can probably visualize it.

darkhelmet, I finally got to watch the rest of your clips, and I really like what I'm seeing. I especially like how Anakin interrupts Palpatine in the "Chancellor as Sith" scene, and how Padme says nothing when Obi tells her of Anakin's dark deeds. Good job!

Thanks! I'm glad to hear the positive feedback on Anakin interrupting Palpatine. When I first did that edit, I wasn't sure it worked, but I think it does now.

That dialogue is interesting. Maybe someone here on the forum will eventually volunteer. Have you thought of trying to piece together the dialogue word-by-word from other Liam Neeson movies?

Yeah, it's not quite available for Christmas unfortunately. It comes out Dec 26 ( publishing info ).

A few people have done some stuff in the vein of what you're doing with the meditation scene. I hope that it's okay that I reposted Marvolo's and GoodMusician's clips here. Marvolo's clip incorporates some lines of Liam Neeson's from Batman Begins originally done by ADigitalMan.

GoodMusician's clip uses an Episode 3-style Force Vision showing that Yoda knows what happened with Anakin and Obi-Wan's duel and that Padme's life is in danger.

Maybe these ideas could help you if you can't find someone to do a voice-over for you.

Did you change the audio for the saber clashes, or did you change them visually?

..the big work was to give sens to the cuts for enhansing "the story telling", trimming some "lines" etc..

Tell me about it. There's so much bad dialogue.

Arrgh I just noticed it, I spent so much time getting the purple cast off of Tatooine, I wasn't paying attention to the outline of the planet. [sigh] well that's gonna be a lot of work...

Paul, I'm no technical guy, but couldn't you make make the shot in two layers, so that you could color correct space and the Tantive independent of the planet and tweak the contrast and color of the planet separately? I have no experience in Avisynth (yet), but I would think this would be fairly simple to do in Adobe After Effects if you have that available to you.

I've been concerned with how I was going to wrap that scene up, but I think your cut directly to Anakin saying "What have I done?" might lead me to the answer.

I also like the voice of Qui-gon (?) coming to Master Yoda as he meditates. Was that a foreign voice dub?

The "Dooku Very Cool Saber" clip ubfortunately didn't have any audio.
