True, it will probably take a while for HD of any kind to become the dominant disc-type, but with the push to HD televisions, it's just a matter of time.
Don't worry about your DVD collection, though, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD will be backwards compatible ( Blu-Ray: DVD-compatible, HD-DVD: DVD-compatible [click the FAQ Flash link in the left-hand contents column] ).

Welcome, Rune! Just had to state the obvious: your colormatch composites look AWESOME! Makes one wonder why Lucas didn't see fit to do this kind of thing for his precious SEs.
When I heard the rumor, I hoped beyond hope that it wasn't true. When the rumor was confirmed, I was disgusted and not even morbidly curious; I didn't see the footage until this year, which looked completely out of place in visual tone and with HC doing that stupid "I'm-a-tough-guy-looking-out-from-under-his-brow" thing; ughh! Lucas couldn't direct traffic!

No, that was just a typo, but I do have a passion for Italian food.
Mmm... Italian food.
P.S. SweHanzon, we love to see new people on these boards. It means this happy family is getting bigger and bigger.
Here, here! Nice to get another editor with technical experience, too. What you found may come in handy for me as I've never ripped a DVD like you've done, and I'll be needing to rip one eventually for some audio editing. Thanks, SweHanzon.

Marvolo, I did some digging in AE 6.5 and this is what I found:
Top tool bar: Composition: Make Movie: save file as "[your title].avi" (".avi" is the only file extension the Render Queue will allow you to have, but the final file type is not locked-in by this). Render Queue: find your file at the bottom of the render list; Output Module: click "lossless": Output Module Settings: select "MPEG2" or "MPEG2-DVD".
I convert most everything I do for work to a DVD-compliant MPEG2, though I haven't done it in AE yet, but I imagine you want your MPEGs for DVD. So, you probably want "MPEG2-DVD" at the highest quality you can get, which in 6.5's standard codec profiles are "NTSC DV 4x3 Low Quality 6MB VBR 1 Pass" and "NTSC Progressive 4x3 High Quality 7MB CBR 1 Pass". There are versions in PAL, too, as well as 16x9.
Swe, I haven't yet experimented much with ripping DVDs to MPEG-2, but, since the problem is consistent across multiple tests, maybe it's due to copyright protection? Maybe try another piece of software to rip the DVD.
Marvolo, I just checked Adobe.com and found that you can export to MPEG-2 with AE 7.0; not sure about 6.5, but I'll dig a little deeper if you still need the help.
Originally posted by: skye_solo One thing, are they sending these purchased on the show out before the release date?
They said that buyers would receive them on the normal release date; basically, they just pre-ordered them like people have done at retail outlets.
One misleading thing that the hostess was saying was that HSN was the only place you could do this; probably true that HSN is the only place that has them in stock already while they take pre-order sales, but you can obviously pre-order them elsewhere that won't have them in stock until distribution sends them out.
The DVDs (100 copies per title) sold out before the first 15 minutes of the show were up, and they were hocking them for $29.98 each! Can you believe that there was no mention of the specs for the presentations or the fact the original versions were relegated to "Bonus Disk" material? And there were no "bonus material" stickers on the display boxes either! (boy, I'm yelling a lot...)
Oh, well. The hostess didn't even know the difference between the originals and the SEs; that's gotta be the public's perception of the whole thing. It was good to see her SW fan co-host stand up for the people who prefer the originals, though.
I am not familiar with editing m2v files as I normally work with DV AVIs, but could this be a "frame blend" or "field option" problem, something you accidentally toggled on or off after bringing the source file(s) into the timeline or after chopping them up in the timeline?
Skye, I think you nailed it on the head, and I'm still up for sending the SE discs back to Lucas.
You know, each of us who would be doing this could check with our local paper to see if we could get a small article on our SE Send-back movement in the Entertainment section; then we could clip those articles and send them to Lucas; so we'd have a two-part mail attack.

I don't! I like him.
Me, too. Mostrously vicious. And having a drink?
That's a nice memory, Obi. Wish I could've been old enough to have one of those in-theater experiences. It's great to hear the details of those audience reactions.
Renner, thanks for sharing; I wasn't old enough to experience SW in the theater. Great story; I never realized there was so much humor in it for the original audiences, and your commentary about the original impact of the cantina aliens was very refreshing; sometimes more is not better.
