Okay, my problem seems to be solved. I have clean video playback now, but I had to use Womble's "MPEG GOP Fixer" tool setting "All Above: Scan, Fix and GOP resize" as opposed to the "Fix GOP Time Code and PTS Errors (Read + Write)" setting by itself.

Newbie question: I was disappointed to find that my DVD video for this rip is a letterboxed aspect ratio set in a 16x9 anamorphic frame. Is anything produced anamorphic on DVD aside from 16x9?

That's really interesting to hear. Sounds like the original scenes would've made the movie a little more like one I would've enjoyed. Too bad. It would be awesome to have those deleted scenes available to see how they could be used in a fan edit.

So, I'm excited to see that I can actually get great video for my edit with ADM's guide, but now that I have my fixed MPEG in Womble(which ripped as an M2V file instead of an MPV) it skips on playback. Am I needing to do a "dgpulldown" or some such thing?

GM, I'm eager to see what you cook up with your revisions to Yoda's vision and to Padme's death.

And the link you posted to the matte paintings is AWESOME! Can't wait to see what I might be able to use those for!

EDITING UPDATE: I began my edit using firewire capture from a DVD player to Adobe Premiere. This resulted in letterboxed video. The majority of the movie has been cut using this source. I'm re-evaluating recutting what I've done so far using "ADM's Guide to MPEG Editing" to present the best picture I can possibly deliver. Anybody have any tips on editing workflows for DVD-ripped 16x9 video? I'm most concerned with not being able to accomplish Star Wars-like transitions using Womble, something ADM has confirmed is not possible.

GM, great work with Yoda's vision! Very ambitious. It's a great addition to have Qui-Gon's voice in there which helps the later part about Obi learning to communicate with him to not feel so tagged-on.

If I might make a suggestion: in order to smoothe the flow of the vision sequence, perhaps you could simply continue the vision through Bail Organa's interrupting line "Excuse me, Master Yoda" and then cut directly to Yoda turning around to look at Bail. The cut in the sequence where Yoda squints in the closeup cuts too quickly.

Nice job overall, though. I didn't notice until your edit made it apparent, but C3PO pilots from the wrong side when he and Obi-wan leave Mustafar! Nice continuity catch! Also, the swell of music over Padme's body in the hospital to close out the scene is so-o-o-o powerful. I noticed you used the same shot of Yoda twice in that scene. Have you thought of using the wider shot for the 2nd Yoda for shot variety instead?

Yeah, I agree. It clues the audience into what the fate of Anakin might have been, but it doesn't answer it in IV. The audience still gets to learn the revelation along with Luke in V.

You and I are coming at Episode 3 from different vantage points as to what's important when in the overarching saga, but it seems you've got a good story and drama sense. Nice job!

EDIT: Just watched Marvolo's clip! (thanks for posting the link again, C3PX.) Maybe you could fuse the Batman Begins dialogue with the Qui-Gon lines you have already used for a fuller Qui-Gon communication to Yoda.

Nice work on the Obi/Anakin duel! Comes off with a relentless energy. Much more like I would hope to see from Vader. You really see Obi have to defend himself, and his final warning to Anakin really comes off like he doesn't have any other choice. I wouldn't have thought to cut directly from Obi's original catwalk jump to the one down below. Cool idea!

Back from NAB. I'm excited about Adobe CS3 coming out in June, but buyers beware: if you're planning on buying any of the suites before the new release, buy it direct from Adobe.com. They are offering a free upgrade when the new release hits.

I just had to have the video suite NOW and bought it retail from Fry's. Adobe doesn't offer the same free upgrade for retail purchases. Live and learn, I guess.

I'm a media producer (that's the official title, but I'm more of a jack-of-all-trades than an expert) for a small video company. One of the perks is that I do get to go on trips like this. This will be my first NAB. Judging by your disappointment, I'm assuming that you've gone before and that it's good?

Edit:...oh, and I agree with Tiptup. Furthermore, I took the whole thing personally, because Lucas almost ripped the spiritual heart out of Star Wars entirely. I thought the journey was the epic, not the fancy digital scenery.

Nice effort, GM. I think I'm on a huge learning curve here, and the level of sophistication you guys are all bringing to the game here is definitely intimidating.
Also, I was wondering, as mentioned by another before, we know that Luke is a skywalker... why not show luke being born... but no mention of twins... Also, show Obi-Wan holding luke as Padme dies...
