Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

I have already stated it is probably to much cleanup(this was my first time with this filter) but the grain\noise HAS to be lessened quit a bit on this version, when blowing it up it really screws up some scenes, like Tantive IV hallways, space shots, and especially the sky on the outside on Tatooine shots, and this project will be just like color correcting, there is NO way that everyone is going to be pleased by this, and I can live with that, but as long as I, and most others like it, then that is cool by me, but this will have a really FANTASTIC blu-ray menu, and it will have every audio option I have and can find in ac3 and LPCM.

@zombie84, what "older" transfers are you talking about? the V1 & V2? if so that was not my script, but there were still some that really liked those versions to, everyone has different tastes, that does not make them bad, just different.

One more thing on the Blu project, I am not even made a final yet, not even close, still waiting on others suggestions and such, this is all just seeing what can be done, and what should be done, and what shouldn't be done.

No, I did not mess with the blue's specifically, it was just an overall big pump in saturation, but I will probably leave the color settings to what the V3 already was set at, or if I want to run the final avi in AE, I could use Ady's color preset, and truth be told, I liked it to, my Family could not believe what the source was, it just looked really clean to me, which was cool.

Dark_Jedi,

When I look at the 720p sample the only blemish I can spot is when C3PO and R2D2 have their close up shot on the ship you can see the jaggies really bad on both droids... I don't know if it was there all the time or if its something that has been introduced by whatever filters or processes that you are doing to the film but if there is anyway you could improve that shot that would be great...

I think it is there all the time, even on the V3 and the retail GOUT, some of those flaws are going to carry over no matter what is done, unless taking the scene from something else, look at the Stormtroopers bringing Leia to see Vader, they look like they are blinking LOL, but that is a GOUT flaw, just like the 4 eye Stormtrooper, some flaws are just going to have to stay.

Dark JEDI,

Instead of this

hdragc(max_sat=1.0,coef_gain=0.3,min_gain=0.5,max_gain=1.5,protect=1,reducer=1)

You could try something like this and then tweak it up or down til you find what you want.

hdragc(max_sat=1.0,coef_gain=0.1,min_gain=0.1,max_gain=0.3,protect=1,reducer=1)

Thank you, I will try it out.

So did you have plans to do ESB and ROTJ?

maybe if I run g-force's script

That is exactly what I am going to try out, but I already have them anamorphic, so I will have to modify the script some, but I actually like some of the SE additions myself, I may just make me up a hybrid version, but I will definitely have to figure out how to back off some of the brightness.

Yeah I like it that bright.  The HDR filter is mostly responsible for the brightness, and the colors will never be perfect I think.

Yea I figured the HDR was the one, and you are right, the colors will never be perfect, I couldn't agree with you more, but it is a little to bright for me though, but still very cool.

*edit - I see you have kept some of the SE scenes as well, so the die hards won't like that LOL.

I actually have pulled back a little more than that on the test run I am doing now, it will be done in about an hour or so, then I will encode and test on my HDTV, truth be told, I actually liked how clean that sample looks, but that is just me, we all differ on these things, just like color.

Last night I actually got my Boy and my Wife to sit down and watch the first 29 minutes of the GOUT DVD(this is the first time I have EVER watched it) and then followed it by my sample, they were BLOWN away, they could not believe that the sample was from that crappy DVD, so that was cool, also my Wife and Boy liked how clean it looked to, it is different watching in motion as appose to looking at pics.

Ah, my apologies.  I thought you were referring to the upcoming sample clips.  Downloading them now... looking forward to watching these.

I was, but those screens are from the new clip, no big deal, all is good, it is easy to miss comments, I know I have done it and probably will do it again.

Well here is the sample, remember it is a big one LOL, I wanted a lot of different scenes to look at, and I will pull back on the noise\grain setting, but like I said, if I go to far back on them it will look like pure crappola, well anyways here is the sample links, and I just want to clarify 1 more time, is this perfect, hell no.

DJ, Sorry for the delay in my review of V3 RoTJ.  (Baby's on the way and we're a little busy around the house.)

Again, fantastic.  Video is good, audio is good.  No complaints.

From my point of view, the V3 DVDs are my choice for viewing the OT.  I'd be happy to host an OT party and put them on for my friends to enjoy.

Also got a chance to put on the ESB Imperial Edition while doing house work in the living room.  That's a really neat ESB version, DJ.  Such beautiful music.  And the B&W just gives it that classy touch.

I'll get to the SE and JSC discs soon and let you know about those too.

Thanks rogueOne, looking forward to any and all reviews, I am SO glad you are liking them so far.

well i'd still be willing to download the 1.48gb sample if you can uploaded it. I have a hotfile account so i can download it pretty fast. You would probably have to split it into chunks of 400mb but you can do that with winrar

Cool that is what I will do, I really want people to look at this sample, I really like this ALOT! but I am also a fan of Terminator 2 Skynet Edition and the new Predator, they might have been overdone on the cleanup, but to me look FANTASTIC.

I am really afraid that if I do back off on the noise\grain setting that the sky and other scenes will start to look like shit again, but DAMN what a HUGE difference from the GOUT 4:3 DVD to this(I hate to admit it, but I prefer this over the V3 as well) but if everyone says it is to much I will start backing off little by little.

I have started uploading now.

D_J, could you encode the sample as a mkv to make the file size smaller? I'd definitely be interested in checking out the sample and give you feedback.  I would say that the noise reduction could do with being turned down slightly (vaders helmet looks a bit smudged from the NR) but this could change when seen in motion anyway as you can never tell just from screenshots.

Is there any way to make chunks of it, I made the sample very long this time because I had to see the outside shots on Tatooine, and the Tantiv IV scenes, LOL and Space, and at least on my 65" HDTV I think it looks very good in motion, maybe a little to clean LOL, definitely NOT as grainey as the V3 DVD.

OH, and sorry up front about the color, now I have been fucking around with it.

There is definitely some grain\noise removal needed and used, if I leave it the way it is in g-forces script it is no where near enough for 720p video, it is so noisey\grainey that it looks very bad, especially in the Tantiv IV hallways, and really noticeable in the outside shots on Tatooine, especially when Owen is buying the Droids, sky is terrible, but I finally encoded it and it looks pretty good and clean in motion, but it is a 1.48 GB sample, not sure if anyone would download it, but I wish you would, I need input & ideas, I know I sound like a broken record LOL.

Doctor M suggested that I do all the upscaling first, then run it through g-forces script, so instead of adding all that on top of g-forces script I made a separate script for upscaling, all I did was double what g-force already had from the GOUT DVD .d2v file, then I modified g-forces script to take my upscaled avi file, so far I think this is the best it has looked, I still need to encode and test on my HDTV but I will do that soon, I also have 1 other suggestion to try out as well, I think we are getting close, but here are some screens.

Thanks for that input, but all previous versions, I should just go back and delete the sample links, they were all bad, I was not happy with any of them, the space scenes really looked like crap, I am taking a different approach now, so if you want to just hang on and look at the new samples when I have some ready, I think these are better than ALL previous attempts, I guess we will see when I upload some samps, I am currently trying something Doctor M suggested, then after that, I have another suggestion to try as well.

I want to thank you again for the input though, I really need it on this probably over aggressive project of mine LOL.

Can I get that preset you mention? OH, and which version are you using or does it matter?

Sorry d_j, missed this post. Here is the preset:

http://hotfile.com/dl/107827077/bcb873f/anh_gout_recolour_final.ffx.html

Just stick it into your user presets folder. I'm using CS4, but it should still work in CS5, but not sure about earlier versions

Thank you much, CS5 is what I have, I will give it a try for sure.
